Title: new bitcoin foundation
Post by: dascorpion on February 25, 2014, 01:05:27 PM
Why don't we have a bitcoin foundation chosen by us (voting if you have a bitcoin or something)
It should be made up of respected community members.
They should have some form of approval, like bitcoin stamp of approval so people know what exchanges and vendors are approved and safe.
They should require exchanges to have assets if they want the approval.
All things to try and prevent criminal activity.
A bunch of other stuff they could do as well.

Or we could blame people for being robbed by Mt Gox because you know, it is your fault someone stole your money apparently.
Next time I get mugged I'm going to walk to a police station and say hey I got mugged, but it is my fault I shouldn't have had my money in a place where I could use it.  Next time I will vacuum pack it and bury it in a vault in my backyard, surround it by landmines, and keep watch over it 24/7 with a sniper rifle.

Oh shit work time, some of us actually have jobs, unlike the people in lala land who have no idea what its like to see your money stolen, I guess I have to go dig up some money for gas right now, later.

Why do we need even one, let alone another? What happens when the new one we elected start running shoddy businesses that negatively affect the rest of Bitcoin?

We don't need another one, let alone, another alt coin. There are way too many alt coins today. Hopefully, most of them go away soon. Saturation = not good.

Do it. Make me the king of the Bitcoin Foundation Ltd 2.0. My qualification is an uncanny ability to twiddle my funstick, also I'm easily corruptable, so I'm quite obviously prime foundation king material. Also no hamster girls will be allowed in the harem of BFL 2.0, so this is going to be a huge advantage over that other foundation.

this thread highlights what mike hearn and others proposed. a service that verifies businesses and ensure they follow the regulations of FIAT and also the moral rules of bitcoin.

to then green light these businesses as being proper and ethical. thus making their withdrawal address 'green'. and also make bad and illecit services addresses black listed. allowing people to then know the good and the bad.

alot of people created fud about how that service was 'supposedly' meant to verify and validate everyone. but it was just the business/services
