Title: CONFIRMED: Karpeles bought Gox.com domain
Post by: seleme on February 25, 2014, 04:28:49 PM
Domain investor Andy Booth has confirmed the sale of www.gox.com to Mark Karpeles.

PS. I haven't seen this posted anywhere though I was sleeping at the time so you might have read it already.

It's nice to know Mark is working on these important things for his customers.

It is important thing. I do think MtGox sellout is coming and that might be hugely important if buyers are some big names.

If you say so. If it was my company I would be doing everything I can to resume customer withdraws (bitcoin and fiat).

I suppose, if there are competent buyers, it would be better in the long run if the problems were fixed by the new competent owners and therefore done correctly. The brand is taking a hell of a beating over this though. They are going to need to make some massive changes to regain the public's trust, starting with resuming customer withdraws (bitcoin and fiat).

Customer withdrawals would be a part of selling contract just like company debts are part of selling contract and buyer takes responsibility to clear them.

A purposeful planned suicide .. required for a rebrand, + debt and asset restructuring!

But please don't include the word "Gox" in the proposal or anywhere else!!

Enough to turn any potential investor's stomach.

If price is right anything is good.

Buying business for right that makes millions each month when things are good is awesome investment for anyone who knows what is doing.

That's why I hope some big guys are gonna do it. One of those that just don't fail to do the job right and make profit in the process.

I see that Gox is taking the coca-cola rout here. Remove a product then bring it back later with a different name... but its still the same crap...

Don't underestimate the chance, that this "sellout" will actually be illusionary. With proper paperwork, Karpeles can just hide his ownership of the new "gox".
If gox is in fact sold, then they are doing it sloppy. What they should be doing at the moment are public statements to specify all the details involved. The only goal to buy gox would be to save the integrity of the bitcoin market system. You can't do that while your actions are secretive and unclear.

Currently my money goes on Karpeles just spinning more plates to get as much money out of bitcoin as possible. If the new owners are unknown or like to remain anonymous, then I'm quite sure of it.

Not that they wouldn't bullshitting but you can't put any statement until a deal is eventually done, specially if buyer requires so. It's big and complicated deal, it can't go through in few hours.

So after six months after launching gox.com they are going to relaunch MtGox "classic". :)  It incredibly worked for coke.  coca-cola so more coca cola "classic" they year it launched then the last full year of coca-cola.

That doesn't really mean anything.  Any domain owner can redirect a domain to any other domain.  Actually I found that kinda strange if they are looking to rebrand "gox" you wouldn't want it directing to the existing failed site.

Good points - a one man conspiracy! It's funny but although it might sound outlandish it fits better than most theories.

The "mystery buyer" will offer to give stuck customers a fiat bailout to the tune of $160 per Bitcoin - take it or leave it, sorry.

The only problem is where is Mark going to sell so much Bitcoin in such a short time, unless... of course! He drags it on for 6 months!!!

So Mark is insolvent with his customers but then uses their money to go domain shopping, how nice of him. As a domain investor, I can confirm this kind of names sells for six figures. Glad I have never given a penny to this chubby nerd.

Btw more details on the sale:

That is interesting indeed.

However what I fail to understand is, why would anyone want a "gox"-domain after the whole brand has been damaged beyond repair by Marks actions?

Why not rebrand the thing completely?

What did he buy it with? He has no money.

In other news, I have just typed goxxed.com into the browser, and it redirects to Kraken.

An idea: Maybe he uses the domain and the "gox"-brand to sell halloween suits. :)
