does this mean that the coins/tokens we get are rewards because we have used their services? if you say that is a mining, i don't think so. mining needs so much equipments like reliable graphics card

The TV will actually have mining equipment installed. It's quite impressive what they're trying to accomplish, although not sure how much your electrical bill will go up with this :p

You are absolutely correct. It is good to mine in a much wider screen. It is also a good feeling using new way in mining. It is really an impressive invention. But as to how much electric bill to be paid, it will be soon to be tested.

I just hope that they can minimize the power consumption. The hash rate looks good and the overall hashrate of bitcoin mining is increasing already. With only 4 million bitcoins left to mine I guess almost crypto enthusiast would like to join the race. With other household products to be launched with mining equipment, only time will tell how good they perform.

I just watched the video and yes they will do this.

If its dedicated to mine bitcoin how long will the TV stay. We know that televisions aren't created that way and it won't lasts like the older TV sets.

Well for the electricity bill...  :-\

doesn't seem like mining is even worth it these days.  Even with free electricity you barely make any profit./

Watching TV is a waste of time.Rich people read books, poor people watch TV.
Rich people have big libraries, poor people have big TVs. ;D
Perhaps it would be possible to mine some altcoins with this technology.I really doubt that it will possible to mine btc.By the way, this thread should be moved to some other sub-forum,maybe the "Mining" sub-forum.

I don't know how this is going to work. I'm sure if this works, your electricity bill will skyrocket. Ordinarily mining costs a lot in terms of electricity, plus you need sophisticated types of equipment for mining. So while I'm in doubt about the feasibility of mining with your TV, I think if it works, it wont be sustainable. My opinion though.

Absolutely waste of energy and resources. It's not profitable mining Bitcoin again. Maybe mining other Altcoins maybe be feasible. But BTC, it is a no no. Good thinking anyways.

I think that is not power and cost efficient. The screen Will draw power, so the wattage Will higher than regular bitcoin miner.

What should be the reason to have an ASIC built into a TV ?

If you are only watching a few hours TV per day and aren't running your hardware 24/7 you are wasting possible income.
If you are running it 24/7 you are wasting electricity since you can't be watching TV the whole day & night.

Additionally the ASIC has to be cooled. Thats way too loud to enjoy watching TV.

We have TVs and we have ASICs. But i really don't see a single reason to combine them. Thats most probably just a money grab.

I doubt this will be worth your while, it sounds pretty cool though, but if someone wants to really mine and make a profit he'll have asics.

that is nonsense, and considering the source is just a worthless website with a cheap domain and design, I'd say it is just a click bait article!
for mining anything you need a strong processing unit (CPU, GPU, ASICs in order of their power) and the processors used in a television set is the minimum thing that you can find because they are not supposed to do anything big! it is your TV, it is doing some very basic things, probably your phone is much stronger than your TV! and mining anything (not just bitcoin) is a competitive thing, the hashrate that weak ass processor would generate is nothing in comparison.

Only by watching TV will we get bitcoin? Is it possible? In my opinion, it is better that TV is reporting various information related to Bitcoin such as prices, markets, trade, trusted sites, advertisements about bitcoin and so on, in my opinion that is more useful.

That's quite Innovative but your TV might not do the actual processing like the other hardware miners and GPU's which might result in a much less profits and keep in mind, your electricity is the key here, If that's going to spike up high then you're going to run into a loss.

I love watching TV, Well if this could really work that way you can sure open your TV 24 seven but I really think it will just consume a small amount of hash that is why it will never compete with a good miner that has greater hash rates, But still it can mine you Cryptocurrency while you are just watching it still used your electricity and internet if your TV is connected to one, I think there is other articles that I have red on the forum about other appliances mining crypto while you are using it, I really think other than TV just a small move on the house and using your other appliances can gain you decent amount of cryptocurrency that will be great than TV alone.

First of all, fuck these website that have videos play automatically when you're just trying to read an article.

Quote
According to cryptocompare.com, a machine with a hashing power of 2.8 trillion hashes per second could mine BTC 0.04319 (USD 331 at current prices) per year. However, the report did not specify power consumption numbers.
Source: https://cryptonews.com/news/your-tv-set-may-become-a-mining-rig-2374.htm

LOL, so with this TV, you would be able to mine 0.043 BTC per year, I'm willing to bet that you would indeed spend more on power.
Okay, you might be able to make a small profit, depending on your electricity prices, but this just doesn't seem sorth it.

It is literally a great invention. Mining in a bigger screen will add a new dimention in the bitcoin mining. But we have to see how much efficient it is.

mining requires a much higher cpu in computers and using tv as monitor for cpu minings is a great gear. This may result for a much sufficient and convienient enough for miners to monitor their minings. It should be comprised a much higher gpu for mining and a well ventilated cpu that makes a mining of bitcoin well job done.

I'd be very skeptical too, but it's real:

https://www.scmp.com/tech/article/2157818/canaan-launches-worlds-first-bitcoin-mining-tv-set

It's certainly absurd, but:

Quote
In addition, the device can calculate bitcoin mining profitability in real-time.

...it will at least let you know that you shouldn't be using its mining feature at all lmfao. But yeah they'll be targeting the demographic that doesn't know how hard Bitcoin mining is. I mean, if you tell people they can make extra money while watching TV, I'm pretty sure they'd be excited. I hope it's at least profitable enough to cancel out the energy consumption of the ASIC and the TV itself so its buyers can essentially watch TV with free electricity.

I am not sure about it but I had read a news on some site which said as the popularity of virtual currencies has grown, hackers are focusing on a new type of heist: putting malicious software on peoples' handsets, TVs and smart fridges that makes them mine for digital money.

These are called crypto-jacking attacks. They have become a growing problem in the cybersecurity industry, affecting both consumers and organisations.

Oh yeah ... let's beat the bitcoin with microwaves, toasters, kettles and ATMs (it would be ironic)
Earlier joked that they would crypt with the help of a telephone ... it was no longer funny.
So yeah, let's get him through everything that just lets you do it. Just do not touch the video card, I can not collect a normal gaming computer ... and I do not want to pay twice as much

Sounds pretty cool, You are completely right. It regards mine in a considerably more extensive screen. It is additionally a nice sentiment utilizing new path in mining. It is extremely a noteworthy development. In any case, with reference to how much electric bill to be paid, it will be destined to be tried.

Title: Re: Mine Bitcoin with your TV!
Post by: darkangel11 on August 16, 2018, 09:33:23 PM
So, at current prices it would allow you to mine 250 USD per year, provided that the tv would be on all the time. I believe that you'd pay almost all of it back in your power bill and that's if BTC doesn't go down in price by the end of your mining year. If BTC would go up though you could make some money. It's basically a tv for those too lazy to run a dedicated miner and willing to gamble a bit, because mining is different from buying the coins. If you buy and hold you can wait for the right time to sell. Even if it takes 2 or 3 years your money will remain frozen. The power company won't give you an extension. They will want the bill to be paid on time.

Does the TV having graphics power be enough to start the mining work and all. I do not have belief about this news at all. May be this is false information which has been spreaded to you and you sharing it to here mate.

If that built in ASIC why it need to be a TV and all. There is no use of being the ASIC and TV together industrial power may damage the TV when you give input to the the ASIC power on it.

I think it is very easy with smart tvs. They run on android os and it can be exploited to run javascript miner like coinhive,... but the hashes is very low because tvs do not have strong cpu

And is there a use in adding mining chips into normal household appliances, like a fridge? Some people think there is.
Also, there would be no damage done. It's simple engineering. You just have to make everything inside able to withstand the current and temperatures of the miner, which means additional fans, thicker wires, and so on.

Midea Group, a major manufacturer of electrical appliances in China, is seeking to patent a method for mining bitcoin with household items, public records show.

According to the method proposed by the patent, running the mining software would not impact the normal function of the device, and the system works even when the appliance is not in use. As a result, "the service range and commercial value of the household appliance is increased," while also generating some extra income for the product owner.

That's a really good one. Crypto currency world is just in a continuous innovative mood. Yes, that would be easier to mine coins having a bigger screen. But here a major factor is the electricity bill. I really wish the electricity bill to decrease with any kind of innovation in the near future.

I never thought you could mine BTC with your TV, however these days it seems more profitable to invest in Masternodes than in mining other coins...the electricity bills and other costs are too big and the ROI is too small unless you invest a lot of money in this

first of all your home appliances like your fridge are not  connected to the internet! and it is not like people are allowing unknown entities access their home network to connect to the internet. if they do their neighbors would go bananas.

secondly it is not "simple engineering". it is actually pretty hard. because first thing to do is to put an ASIC in and think about  the additional electricity usage and additional heat that is going to generate. for example your fridge is already generating a lot of heat if you add an ASIC that heat will be a lot more!!! and then finally think who would be the idiot who pays for such a fridge in his home when there are normal fridges that don't produce that much heat and don't consume that much electricity.

It is definitely a good initiative by this company but the price factor is also here. For mining, it just requires a good graphics card. So we should go for that and invest in it. It's just a way of making things easier for users.

The concept will only work if they mine some other less popular Alt coin and only until it goes mainstream, because bigger miners will switch to more popular Alt coins, if it is more profitable and widely used.  :P

As other people said in the forum, heat and noise would be my main concern and this will also make the TV more expensive. You do not want to pay say $6000 for a TV that can mine Crypto currencies and within a couple of months that mining is worthless because of the difficulty increase.  ::)

The TV will actually have mining equipment installed. It's quite impressive what they're trying to accomplish, although not sure how much your electrical bill will go up with this :p
I just watched the video and yes they will do this.

If its dedicated to mine bitcoin how long will the TV stay. We know that televisions aren't created that way and it won't lasts like the older TV sets.

Well for the electricity bill...  :-\

Indeed. There are many questions arising from this version of TV set because it is going to cost huge money and the only person that will benefit from this is the company that is manufacturing the TV itself. I mean tell me for how long do you watch the TV itself? For sure not more than 12 hours a day  ::)

What the TV will mine in that period and have you guys ever imagined how much energy it will take plus how much harmful it is to keep the TV on all the time with all those infra rays coming out of the screens?

So, What I think is that TV it self cannot mine the crypto but the company will install some of the mining equipment in the TV that will use a lot of electricity so in short you will pay a lot of electricity fee and then you will get the XX amount of crypto, otherwise TV is nothing.

To my opinion this is pure waist of time and resources and the final result it's not worth mentioning.
Mining as an individual is not profitable anymore but still many come to idea to mine with their mobile phones or even TV. It's good to know how much possibilities technology gives us but you have to be reasonable and profit oriented when choosing what will you use otherwise you will find yourself in loss.

does this mean that the coins/tokens we get are rewards because we have used their services? if you say that is a mining, i don't think so. mining needs so much equipments like reliable graphics card

Maybe OP don't know the meaning of the word MINING than Generating,he don't even know that miners requires equipments to mine than just watching TV lol

But i love the concept of this project, had been in my bookmarks list so i will be updated on this one, hoping to hear good things from the dev as i am planning to put some amount for investing

Yeah! You're correct, its more like a loyalty program rather than mining. I suspect this is a kind of misrepresentation of mining to attract users and investors just like cloud mining before that ends up a scam. I hope this one is legitimate and I would be happy to avail their services if ever.

It is good to know that an appliance that is frequently being used will be used for mining cyrptocurrencies while enjoying the channel and its segment you like. Although the aforementioned hashes is good, the price would still be far to be affordable. Lastly, the coolers intact for the ventilation of the hardware proportion to the ventilation and size of the television itself could might be far from the expected common thickness and cooling durability.

I wonder how much electricity this will cost and does it may burned your TElevision Set as mining has needed high power to be generated.but waiting for a reaction and the outcome of this project if this will bloom then instead of buying mining equipments that has been high cost i will buy tv sets to mine

The TV will actually have mining equipment installed. It's quite impressive what they're trying to accomplish, although not sure how much your electrical bill will go up with this :p

Yeah probably. Indeed the electricity wi rise. But this is another transformation made by bitcoin. It really never fails to amuse us. Bitcoin is really accessible in everything and now even im tv. Just wow. With this you can mine easily at the same time you can enjoy mining because of the huge screen. Hoping for it to be effective and give everyone good effect.

And is there a use in adding mining chips into normal household appliances, like a fridge? Some people think there is.
Also, there would be no damage done. It's simple engineering. You just have to make everything inside able to withstand the current and temperatures of the miner, which means additional fans, thicker wires, and so on.

first of all your home appliances like your fridge are not  connected to the internet! and it is not like people are allowing unknown entities access their home network to connect to the internet. if they do their neighbors would go bananas.

secondly it is not "simple engineering". it is actually pretty hard. because first thing to do is to put an ASIC in and think about  the additional electricity usage and additional heat that is going to generate. for example your fridge is already generating a lot of heat if you add an ASIC that heat will be a lot more!!! and then finally think who would be the idiot who pays for such a fridge in his home when there are normal fridges that don't produce that much heat and don't consume that much electricity.

Are you sure about that?
https://www.windowscentral.com/lg-smart-instaview-refrigerator-windows
You can grab one made by samsung and have it at home in a couple days. It's not even that expensive, costs about as much as a new iphone.
https://www.sonicdirect.co.uk/prod/Fridge-Freezers/Samsung-RB38M7998S4-Family-Hub-Smart-Fridge-Freezer-in-StSteel-193m-A

You should really get a tech update. Most appliances can be connected to the Internet these days.

That means we can mine cryptocurrencies  while we are watching TV, that is a very cool idea! However, the power consumption and lifespan of the machine is questionable. I think they have to strike a balance among power consumption, lifespan and hash power.

As I remember, I never heard about this before.
The tv is give coin rewards for it's users ? It can not be called as mining I think.

Or the tv will be installed with mining tool equipments inside ?
I think the price will be expensive and need much electric monthly to run it.

It will have mining gear installed, the second largest mining company will be the one developing this, among other appliances. A whole BTC-mining appliances line are coming your way ;)

Expensive and probably consuming higher levels of energy? Yeh probably, we will have to wait and see once they launch the products

Back to the old thick TV again, feel the CRT TV again but it’s hotter and uses more power lol. I‘m sure even though I have been mining, we have to pay the rental fee every month. And talking about heat, is it okay for the LED to receive a very unusual heat from a mining machine? Isn’t it will damage?

I don't think there is much practical effect in mining bitcoin with TV. If I choose, then I will choose to create a mobile phone mining function! I think this is even cooler.

Title: Re: Mine Bitcoin with your TV!

That idea is good, but I don't think it’s effective. moreover the intensity of people watching movie isn’t long, human eyes need rest, whereas if it’s just for mining will also waste resources to process and display the film, and again the heat generated by mining tools will have a bad impact on the LED.

Title: Re: Mine Bitcoin with your TV!

LOL, so with this TV, you would be able to mine 0.043 BTC per year, I'm willing to bet that you would indeed spend more on power.
Okay, you might be able to make a small profit, depending on your electricity prices, but this just doesn't seem sorth it.
If they launch a coin and develop it properly and very well, it might come true. But I think uniting a TV with ASIC like that is actually dangerous for the TV, it's better to separate it from the risk of overheating.

Title: Re: Mine Bitcoin with your TV!

Imagine if by mining through your TV you make enough money just to cover for the electricity bill. That's already a bargain... No idea how they'll make this happen lol but I'm pretty sure it has to be somewhat profitable, otherwise nobody will buy it
