A sell-off sent the ethereum price plunging below $300 on Monday, forcing the second-largest cryptocurrency to its lowest mark in more than nine months.

Ethereum had traded as high as $323 earlier in the day, but a flurry of sell orders began to pummel the market at approximately 15:00 UTC, driving ETH closer and closer to $300, a level it had not touched since 2017.

A really sad news for holders.

I wish we knew what happened or rather what is happening, it would have been easier and better for us all, but we don't. My heart broke and bled when I saw that the coin had reached that price range. Can all of this be over already? I miss having one of my most favorite coins flourish. I'm not giving up on the coin yet though, cos I believe in it and I know that it would bounce back in due time.

We can just say its volatility at play and with it a chain of panic sell happened to the users which is why you have seen many sell orders which I think is a natural reaction into most investors or trader who don't want to be left out or lose some money. And I think the dip happened is because of the lack of good news in the market or the delay of the ETF signing which is supposed to get new investors in the market.

All of us are hoping for a positive price rising, and soon there comes a day for the comeback of the etherium price. Just be patient by this time and hold your eth.

I don't know pasting the main reason. probably the effect of the decline in BTC last month.
hopefully in a short time it will return to its original price.

ethereum is not really large, it just has a big market cap which makes people think it is large. then that way of thinking led to a lot of ICOs be created on it which made it bloated but not still large. and that is one of the reasons why it has been falling, because of ICOs getting out and the hype of them slowly going away with their numbers dwindling.

What? How do you evaluate whether something is "large" then?

I agree that ICOs are getting out to protect the value of their raised funds. All the ICO projects are probably cashing their ETH to fiat to because they don't have risk management built into their organization. If you're going to run an ICO, you better be prepared to have a proper fund manager, otherwise you'll end up in a situation where you have to liquidate your ETH because you cant tolerate or manage price depreciation.

How can you say that Ethereum isn't really large? its no. 2 on coinmarketcap and other coins under it.
If it isn't really large why there are too many erc20 coins that became popular.
And think of it that those erc20 coins are made through Ethereum's contract so I don't think that your opinion fits that.

Today the whole market is in green and ETH is performing much better than bitcoin as of now. Currently, ETH price is very close to 300 mark.


If you are here to make some quick bucks then it is very sad otherwise we all know that ETH is a good coin so if we hold for long then we can sell at a much higher price. Not so easy to guess the prices on a daily basis so I never go for day trading. If my favourite coins go down a lot then I will buy more instead of worrying much.
 

The price of the Ethereum is now ranging from 252$ - 316$. This is really disappointing for the holders of ETH who bought it at higher price. I hope this situation will take turn into a positive way in future.

Most ico raise money using ethereum after the ico they would at some point convert it to USD that was why ethereum price dipped a lot.

It's not surprising that the ETH is now reduced in price. it's just that it is actively sold by startups after the ICO, so as not to lose money for the further development. Just before the projects kept the collected funds in ETH, but the latest practice has shown that it is not very far-sighted and with such a protracted down trend on the market funds are melting at high speed and the execution of all plans is simply not enough. So this situation is normal!

It makes sense to even increase your eth to make up your losses, i don´t think it can go much lower. It is still the choice for most ico investors and the best platform for it.

I think it is not a big impact of Ethereum because all the altcoins bare continuously down in the market so no one is find the exact reason of altcoins dump. Some peoples are said as soon as possible Cryptocurrency will move to forward so keep calm all are recover soon. But some investors are afraid in this because they are all spend more investment in Ethereum. This bearish market is move to forward soon.

I think that for new ath for the etherum we will need to wait long months but for some pump of this coin it will be easier, i mean that etherum could follow pump on market if it will recover in soon weeks.

Indeed unfortunate to know that its market value fell as this much. But knowing ethereum, recovery has a high probability to take place despite of the lack of assurance on when will green days on its market value will be back. But I do suggest investing into it at this moment given that the price is currently low. Once the recovery have taken place the profit will be doubled and all we have to do is to wait for pumps to happen. We just need to be patient with negativities in the market.

This is a clear example of panic selling. A lot of investors were selling their coin and willing to sell a low price than losing more in the long run. For me, that is a wrong decision. I think what they should take advantage of the low price and try to increase the number of coins they have. ETH will go up but it requires time. Ethereum was kind of a peculiar case in the last crash, the entire market was gripped with fears, ICOs that have successfully raised cash decided to drop their loads to tokens on the market to preserve their funds value, the result was a deeper plunge for ETH.

I did same thing,, converted to bitcoin in order to preserve my portfolio value, i have had less worries since then as bitcoin was less susceptible to big dips.

As a result, it falls, as a result of which, many start-ups start selling collected ETH, so as not to lose the collected funds, in addition to earn with a purchase at bottom. I think that this is the main reason. There is also a conspiracy theory that ETH is specially dumped, to earn bigger profit.

I think this is a common market, it drops in bulk not just ETH. If bitcoin increases then all will increase again, every alt is dependent on bitcoin. Now is the time to hold, not much attention to the market.

If he did everyone will be freaking out and it will be over all the media but I guess it's not. the market is just too bearish, bitcoin dominance increasing to the point it has taken half of the market capital

Everybody ask about what happen to ETH. Yeah, ETH is likely collapsing. Many people worried about it and some of them feel that ETH cannot increase again as the early price as it is. However the opinion is yours. I myself really still wish that this altcoin as considered as the best cryptocurrency after Bitcoin can increase again to be like the early price more than $500.

ETH has already created a good market itself by smart contracts, people are afraid of losing more money so I think many of them selling to buy lower prizes. Yeah, i agree. It is not just ether is affected with the current bloodbath but also almost all of the altcoins. For me it is a normal thing that value of crypto goes and down. You will have just to work your way around it so that you will not lose money in the process or at least it would be minimal if ever you will lose some.

That was the good news that i ever read in this year, because i was able to top up my portfolio, sounds amazing right? of course because i was able to add my portfolio, learn  to play with the music in this scenario, where making money is still based on the individual strategy, and i believe it would probably go higher in the long run. Instead panicking in the downtrend and selling your coins why not buy more so when the bull market returns it will be a win for you. We've seen this pattern in the first and second quarter. Yes, crypto coins are very volatile and unstable. When the rates fall down, I think it is not really surprising. Ethereum rate is about $299 currently. It always goes down or rises up now. But in my prediction, It will never fall under $200.

At yesterday's bull market I saw ETH go above the $ 300 mark, but it was still bad once it fell again. I started to fear with my money, and I lost 20% of my investment in ETH. I still decide to hold them up to the present time. I hope the school will go up again and the price will be on the moon.

It was plunging around $300 the effect of the ETF lost hype because of its rejections added by its trash and scam ICO's that constantly dump the ETH market with its investors then if btc falls expect for it to fall beyond $300 or some major investors are jumping to other altcoins to profit from it, see it as an opportunity to buy more for the accumulation for the upcoming bull run and recovery.

Yep, the $250 level was a real shocker I hadn't expected things to decline that much but once again the whole market is at the mercy of the Bitcoin mood swings. I did drop some FIAT into Ethreum at $260 as it has not been at those levels for a long time an pretty sure it was a good call. Stick with it over the longer term, and it will recover.

I have seen too much bad news about ethereum today, everyone talks about how ethereum is dead or dying. Just wait a minute man, just because it dropped under 300 doesn't mean its dead or over somehow. Bitcoin dropped too, all coins dropped, everything dropped. There is no coin that did not dropped at all. So we just gotta wait for the ethereum to go back up, it was worth 3-4 times what it is right now and unlike some scam coins or shady developers ethereum has everything ready for going back up there once again and it will still be undervalued considering how many different problems it solves comparing to bitcoin.

Few of my friends who are all always believing to the fact of ethereum is the next bitcoin, keep buying on every dips but I am not sure how much they are all true, only time will determine their success. Lets all wait and watch what etheretum is holding up for all of us in coming weeks.

Etherum is experiencing a period of bleeding that is so strong, Etherum prices even tend to decrease very dramatically compared to Etherum prices in the past month. Correctly as you say that one of Etherum's decreasing rates is due to the increasing number of ICO projects that are junk. This is what caused tremendous panic and investors tried to wait until the situation got better.

I did not expect ethereum to fall to the level it falled to this year.  This is a really dump and it will take strong technical and fundamentals issues to get it back on it feets.  I think we may need to see serious recovery from next year.

It could be due to the increasing competition from better platforms while ethereum is all blocked up. NEO is one example, QTUM is another, all faster and easier to use. Also less scammy ICOs which means they are more likely to collect and hodl their platform coins, unlike the scammers on ethereum who will dump ETH asap.

In one telegram channel it was written that some ICO project sold 10000 Ethereum and therefote its price become so low. I think it is true because Ethereum price was fallen very quickly.

I dont think there is anything big will happen if eth touches below $300. Maybe many will be investing more and some will be selling theirs so I think it will just be a 50-50 for ethereum. Anything can happen so I knew that most holders will invest more when it happens and weak hands will sell theirs too.

I think this is not very sad news, since this is quite an expected course of events, you need to understand that if it was strongly up then it will be down strongly. now you need to build up the position in ETH while the prices are attractive.

Eth has been down to below $300 and it's so surprising to me how the price went down so low like that, I think the price went down so low because most of the ICO company started selling off their eth which has made the eth price to went down that low

So i am not surprised the price went down that low, eth price went high because ICO investing was booming, but now many people are scared of investing in an ICO, so much no much are buying eth rather much people are selling it.

I think what happened to eth is that many people are no longer investing in ICO's and this month alone, many ICO postponed their ICO date, so there is no much demand for eth in the market rather there was a massive sell of, that's why the eth price went down so low.

I have to agree with you on this one, it is high time most of these project should focus on other platforms for their crowd funding. most of them still use ethereum because they can easily copy already existing smart contract code and paste, the moment more of these ICO starts using other platform for their ICO, the better for the crypto space.

Whatever is going on with this coin is not something anyone knows for sure, but I just wish that all of this will be over soon. You just never now, there will always be people and experts predicting a massive increase, others say the value will go down further. There can always be event like the SEC which suspended Bitcoin Tracker One and Ether Tracker One for 10 days, two securities which are tight to cryptos. You cant predict the future of regulations, markets, new technologies and so on. The opinion is that Ethereum is a special case since many ICOs raised money in form of Ether and try to sell it with the effect of drag down the price even further. All coins of crypto market is in very worst condition and day-by-day they are touching lowest levels of this year and Ethereum is touching $190 and i think it will goes more down from current position. But it does not mean that market and Ethereum will not recover because instability is the nature of market because many times Ethereum goes downwards but after sometime it again touch its high level.
That's why, i believe that when market will recover then, Ethereum will also recover and it will touch its high. So don't panic and wait for that recovery.

I think that in the nearest future the price of the Ethereum coin can reach below $ 150. I'm even scared to think about it, but unfortunately this is a market reality.

Nobody knows for sure what happened to this coin, or what is happening to it. Many believe that it is as a lot of ICo investors dumping off their tokens or something. A lot of others just feel it is the general decline in the prices of coins that is affecting it. The sad news is that it can fall below $200. The price is too low and it makes me wonder if it can go below $150 USD. That will be an alarming situation if it happens. It will go down again for sure based on my speculation. I remember this can't be considered as a recovery to the ethereum. It looks like the demand of ethereum has been divided into the ripple at the same time.

i am seeing the price chart of ETH and it is climbing up the market for more than a week now.
Even the BTC price stops at 6500, ETH gaining more price value.

Be patient and don't panic about the decrease of eth price, i optimist the price of eth will increase again and reach more than $300 in the end of this year. Hopefully the increasing of eth will happen like in the end of 2017 that the price of eth increase drasticly and more valuable. In my observation, for few days until now, the price of eth begin to increase slowly. So, to make the price of eth pump the holder shouldn't sell their eth and make big investation in this coin.

Etherium is slowly recovering so there's no need to be scared.Smart people have used the recent  opportunities of buying Etherium dips at 170 $ and they are now having nice profit.I believe Eth will touch 400 $ by the end of this year.
