Title: So i decided to build a few open air frames.
Post by: subvolatil on February 26, 2014, 03:11:03 PM
Well!! with the gpu heating up i decided to to build a open air rig.

My plan is to stack up the six rigs on top of each other and connect each rig to a heat exhaust fan going through the roof.

this is my first prototype. (does not house a PSU)

Working on other prototypes too.

The second protype will be a one that can house two 1200w PSU

I will publish the build details and schematics once i have determined which one would work better.

And a Third prototype is a experimental liquid immersed cooling solution, using a  few different types of liquids to immerse the entire hardware in it. {might make this one  around August.}

thats great. if you are building a second one, try square-tube alluminium. it'll give more sturdiness and also better visual appeal.
but this one looks great for DIY. i'll be making two next week, but not by myself. found a metal works shop to do it for me. one is open frame and another is a closed frame with better ventilation and protection from dust with custom dust filters. with the summer coming near, i don't think the closed frame will work better, but i'm doing it just as an experiment. will post pics when it gets delivered

I  did make one  with the Square tube  but  the problem with that was, drilling the hole  for the  board to  fit,  and  adding  other  attachment was a bit of a problem. Anyways the V-rod is quite sturdy i was  able to sit on it  and  held quite sturdy. :-)

Yeh with the  summers  coming  it is  better to stick with a open air  with a heat catch exhaust vent.

Looking good.
I will build a frame too one day but for now my big fan blowing directly at my GPUs is good enough lol.

Great work..

Hope you guys built a case which will beat the dopamine 6 GPU case in style :)

never saw this before
looks great. gives me some idea for my closed frame build. I think the hanging down setup for the gpu might work

Looking through this project, its interesting to note that Hardware projects seem to require lesser investment than Software at the same level.

Its a nice, clean and simple DIY frame. Liquid immersed cooling solution is new for me. Keep us posted.

I am planning to build one like that of openrigs.com.

Searching for plastic corner joints for square aluminium pipes which would make the assembling much more modular and easier. I might take some time as I am in the process of shifting flats.  :(

And yes it will be stackable.
