Title: Scrypt Mining Frame
Post by: Huc on February 26, 2014, 05:58:33 PM
I was looking to upgrade my computer case to an open frame build so I can support 2 more r9 280x's. Currently I am running 2 of them in my Coolermaster 690 which is getting a bit toasty. With summer coming I suspect open frame is better for air circulation anyways.

Has anyone tried this? Or what do you guys think?

Found some more details on the frame at http://www.cryptothinktank.com/riggit-v9/

Is 1200W psu good enough to run 4 r9 280x? or should I also pick up another smaller PSU maybe 750W?

The frame that you linked to will certainly do that job in transitioning from 2 to 4 card set up. I ran into the same situation during the summer. But I used a crappy milk crate set up instead lol.

The NCIX frame seems like a pretty good price considering the ones on ebay are a bit more expensive. It offers everything you need in my opinion. I think I will get one myself to replace my craptastic milk crate set up.

I would be hesitant to use the 1200w PSU btw. To be on the safe side I would have a two-PSU setup. It's probably easier to obtain two 750w PSU then 1200W anyway.

Also get a kill-a-watt on amazon to see how much you're actually drawing from the wall.

Hope that helps

All these frames are so expensive.

Might as well go to Home Depot and just screw together some wood, not like it will catch fire or anything.

are you asking for advice and help getting a frame? if so just PM me if you want to talk about it. I am designing some stuff now, and have been doing metal fabrication design and construction for a very long time :)
