How do I get some merits? And what is the advantage of a bitcointalk community member being merited?

I would like to elaborate a bit more on the above answer, as I believe this topic deserves a bit more detailed answer:

As per the original post from Theymos the "Merit system was introduced to improve posts quality", based on this explanation you can get Merits by being there for other users, sharing you knowledge, helping others to answer their questions and by providing quality information. I would say you should stick with answering quetions on other user’s threads. Later on when you learn more you could share your knowledge by starting your threads and offering structured information for others.

Defitinely the biggest incentive to rank up in account level are bounties. Because the higher your membership level is, the better chance of you getting accepted for high quality bounties is. The reason being, that higher level accounts get more space in their signature (and more space for bounty promotion), but also have much higher prestige, when it comes to spreading word about project in question (via their signature).

Hope this helps and that I explained it clearly. Happy Merit hunting.

You won't get merit because you begging for it or even making this thread.

You need a good quality content and people will give you merit without you asking for it.

I haven't got it either, but i try to keep making good posts just don't be too fixated on merit, just keep making constructive and informative posts.
The point is how we can contribute to the forum and merit will come by itself later.

The advantage you can go to higher rank of course, so the opportunity to join a good project is bigger.

Merits are a rare commodity here on bct so earning them will take quite a bit of effort. And from my understanding new merits are not currently being generated so another member would have to give you theirs provided that they're impressed by your posts and contributions here.

There are different ranks you can obtain that go all the way up to Legendary. Higher ranks unlock additional features for your account including posting pictures, avatars, etc. but I suggest checking out the merit thread post by theymos where you can find additional details on the requirements for each rank. I included that link below for your convenience.

How can you get some merit if your post history is full of bounty report and proof of authentication. Come on dude participate in discussions that are useful which can improve your posting strategy. Posting in megathread will not help you improve your rank as well as your mindset in creating such quality posts.

Do not be one of the people who post just to earn a cents. Start changing your post quality and help the forum maintain it's quality :)

Start by not talking about how to get merit.

The formula is very simple. Post comments that others find valuable or interesting...they may gift you some merit. That's it.

More importantly for the rest of us, why are you so concerned with earning merit?

Make a good post, help others & give some useful tips. The purpose of Merit is to improve posts quality. Having a high rank have its benefits with higher ranks you can get higher reward in participating in signature bounties.

If you want to get Merit, then you should post articles that are healthy and helpful for most people. If you can't do something like this, then you can only get it through trading!

Agree, if you can't read and understand well you can't make good posts so it will not be easy for you to increase your rank.

Lol! First rule of merit: Don't talk about merit  ;D ;D ;D

But seriously, just be an active member, help others and try to make useful posts is the best way I guess.

Well if you check from my activity you will notice that I'm new and my main purpose for opening the account was for bounty purposes but looking into the community, I'm trying to understand it the more, hence the reason for this thread cos I see many people with the merits and I don't feel its out of place for me wanting to know what its about

1.Merits is an essential for account upgrades. When you want to upgrade from JR to Member, you must have 10 Merits.
2.Try to write some useful articles carefully, or reply to help others, maybe someone will give you Merits.

How do I get some merits? And what is the advantage of a bitcointalk community member being merited?

It is a fact that you should accept your failure to rank if you do not invest in comments and content.
To get the merit, you need to post really good articles, as far as I know, there are some people who do such as theyoungmillionaire, he farmed more than 500 merit in a few months by reporting spam, contributing for community.
English is important, you have to understand what the topic is talking about and you have knowledge of the subject to comment, do not think that any comment will be merit.
There is another way I find it easy to make merit, that is to Meta box and report the spam, plagiarism or report the bounty scam ...
Hope these can help you.

Yeah it's better to give those sMerits for the members who really deserved. This is the post (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2439073.msg34067309#msg34067309) that you merited lastly(actually its long way back in 4/19/2018 );D.

theyoungmillionaire  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1180530) is one of the best posters as you say, with 531 earned merits to date. Reporting spam is not really a merited task in general (there are exceptions). People really do it out of their concern for the forum, hoping for a cleaner more fluid view of decent posts, but seldom in hope of getting merits.
Just a comment on the term "farmed" you used: one of the things that is part of the problem on the forum is "account farming" (i.e. trying to run multiple accounts for bounties and generating spam posts as a result, lowering the quality of posts in search for quantity + possibly breaking forum rules in the process that lead to account banning). That differs enormously from what  theyoungmillionaire  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1180530) is doing (246 posts -> 531 merits; one of the best ratios on the forum), so the term could lead to some confusion (I guess you meant something in the line of “was awarded”).

That is so. You need to master the language and be rather well versed in terms of expression and give a certain depth in general to your posts. There are also local boards, some of which do have Merit Sources assigned to them to boost merit awarding, and are therefore possible alternatives to the English language barrier.

Again, not so really. Spam and plagiarism reports area not merited often nowadays, but should be encouraged to keep a cleaner forum and, as a side-effect, give more visibility to good posts (the tree and the forest thing…). Scams should be reported in Scam Accusation (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=83.0) or Reputation (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=129.0) (depending on what you are reporting). If others find it useful and solid, they may award merit to the person who brought the case to the attention on those threads. For example, take a look at this thread: 1 MAN 560+ accounts on forum, Millions of tokens abused (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4759763.msg42989933#msg42989933). Building a case like this is not easy and rather time consuming. Nevertheless, it is a great service to remove cheaters from the forum.

Meta (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=24.0) is more about forum structure and governance/rules really.

I know it ain't easy to get merited as first when you would do some post and get merit as well . Merit comes from important post and not any sorry to say junk and unmeaning post . Before you get merit from someone , meaning what you posted helped them and touched them. Would you go ahead and dash your Lamborghini to someone just like that ? hell no. What the person would have done , might be something helpful to you before you do that. Same with merit. The more your post helped them, the moe you get merit

To get Merit, you must post articles or replies that are helpful to everyone, and the advantage of members of the Bitcointalk community is that most of the ICO project's bounty tasks are required to be completed within Bitcointalk, such as signatures!

You both, sir, doing tremendous works by creating bounty reports and you both are deserved to be merited. These higher rank members actually don't know how much you have contributed to the forum and for other members. Richer get richer these days. BTW how much do you want? is 10 sMerits enough, because I only have 10 right now (don't tell those higher rank members and they will ban us) ;D

Actually, I don't understand the point you are highlighting? Is that mean are you helping for other members only to cover up your post requirement?

This thread is now becoming SMT and I think this thread better to be locked by OP since he/she got the answers from other members.

Learn to read before posting, and learn to write English, so that you can treat the forum with respect - what is this word "wamma wanna"?

I also used to think that it is the slang but look like this is now acceptable English word to represent the short form of "want to" or "want a".Definition of "wanna" already present in Cambridge and Merriam Webster.
I think it might be informal language of speech but I do not think Forum communication should be strictly bound by formal communication.

@OP. I think you got of suggestion for your want, so start following and working on it because only "want" will not help you to achieve anything.
