Title: Limit on image file size when posting
Post by: jacee on August 16, 2018, 07:06:27 PM
Is there a limit on the size of an image that we can post in a thread?

I've been trying to upload a gif but this error appears:
Quote
bitcointalk.org image proxy
Invalid image

here's the image btw:
Code:

I have tried many times to post an image on the forum but I did not find any issues so far on forum. I believe this issue may happening because of the gif image with high pixels.

Other than that there will not be any issues on this image as I checked. Once again check the forum code on imgur and then post to try whether it is working perfectly or not.

Your image:

I don't think it's a file size and more than it won't fit in a post. I imagine it might show up normal in your post history and that'll be about it.

EDIT, I was wrong about the post history thing, but resize your image to be the size of a post.

Use :
Code:
[img width=300][/img]

Oh sorry, I thought you are talking about size of the image but not the file size.

Imgur converts large gif to MP4 files if I'm not mistaken, so actually you are posting not gif but mp4 format. That's why it is blocked.

Test, it's a temporary link of the converted file, it will expire in a few hours:

It's a gif. It ends in dot gif.

If it were an mp4 it ends with something different and also has a scale at the bottom to tell you how long across the gif/mp4 you are.

According to this thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1330653.0) max image size is 2.5mb. Guess you have to resize it.

Yeah, it seems that it ends in .gif but if you download it it's actually a mp4. You can try it yourself. Now I have fixed it see the post above. Now it is completely converted to gif.
Just for reference :
Imgur begins converting GIF uploads to MP4 videos with new GIFV format (https://thenextweb.com/insider/2014/10/09/imgur-begins-converting-gif-uploads-mp4-videos-new-gifv-format/)

ezgif link was only temporary and expired in a few hours, so I have uploaded converted to gif to imgur too so it's permanent. See my post above.  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4907364.msg44201881#msg44201881)

Awesome! Thank you! I also tried changing the image width but it doesn't work. And I even tried uploading on a different hosting site, no preview appears.

GIFs cannot be uploaded to many forums because they weigh too much. On this forum, it seems like you can post gifs but it is about 2 megabytes so I can’t say for sure. I know a service through which you can reduce the size of an image, but not GIFs. In general, there are 3 options for changing the image, this is reduced through photoshop, through a special extension in chrome or through an online service. I prefer to use online services like https://imglarger.com/ (https://imglarger.com) because they usually do their job quickly and efficiently. True, this service is special because this service has a special AI technology with which you can change the image in a matter of seconds without losing quality. But I don't know how to resize the gif. I hope this information was helpful at least a little.

I have the same issue I am not able to upload my gif. Yeah I believe maximum size is somewhere over 2 mb. I don't really know any services can someone help me with a service that can resize gifs?

ezgif.com is an online gif compression service that allows you to set which parts you want to reduce in size/quality.
Or if you are a Photoshop CS6 or up user, you can compress your gif there which has almost the same features as ezgif even more complete and fast.

Most times newbies can't upload an image maybe in your case it's because of your rank.

Yes, in FaithGlover85's particular case it has probably nothing to do with the size of the image or gif. Newbie ranks can't upload images. You will need to rank up to Jr. Member or purchase a Copper membership to remove that restriction.

Check out https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=credit;promote for more info on Copper memberships.

Yeah it has nothing to do with the size of the file mate, usually gif is just less than a megabyte, and according to some people in here the file limit for images is 2.5 mb. I guess if you wanna share something in gif badly you need to pay for a copper member rank, you'll get the same forum benefit as a member for it, but it's quite pricy for me, around $28 bucks as of now I think.

Indeed, $30 as we speak. And that's not even silver, let alone golden membership.
