Title: r9 280x Sapphire Dual X Boost OC or Gigabyte OC
Post by: razamit on February 27, 2014, 07:01:14 PM
Hey

I am building another 6 GPU setup

I cant decide between the two.

Here are my thoughts:
  • I have a sapphire VaporX but I am not happy with its stability, it was giving 750KHS but now It goes sick/dead unless I lower the frequencies to 950/950 which yields 650KHS, haven't tries to RMA it because I think it will hols a prime 95 test.
  • At least 3 people I know have the DualX and had to RMA them as they died, so basically right now I am very suspicious towards sapphire cards...
  • While my friend can only get 680KHS from the Gigabyte its working non stop with no need to fiddle with it (which is important to me)

So which one should I get? any toughts?

We've got dozens of Gigabyte OC 280x, and they're all at 740-770kh/s.

If your friend is only getting 680kh/s out of his, then he needs to learn how to tune.

I would tell you to buy from us (see my sig), but we're OOS ATM. Regardless, they're still a great card.

I have the gigabyte R9 280x oc cards and I have them all stable at 775kh, had 2 out of the 8 up to 798 but not stable go sick with in a few hours.

Mem clock 1500, core clock 1000 - 1125 go up in 5mhz increments till the kh falls off.

If the card will hold mem clock 1810 go with core clock 1130 - 1150  for 775 - 810 kh

Difference is the bios f60 or f70

And I have them all undervolted 20%

Hope that helps you.

Axco.

My results are almost exactly the same as yours. You must have all F70 cards. The F60 cards are the ones that are pushing it to get 750.

I cant get my gigabyte windforce OC rev1 above 700 KH/s stable, wont go up to 1070 clock without being unstable. My dual-x does 720 without problems.

Comes with no warranty, and use at your own risk. Good Luck!  :)

Download atiflash and have it read your current BIOS info. You can also use the Gigabyte @BIOS utility if you're in Windows, but I'd recommend using the DOS ATIFLASH utility to flash the new BIOS.

Yes, ONLY use the BIOS I linked to earlier if your cards have the F60 BIOS. If you have the F70, you're all set. They are not compatible with each other, and can't be swapped. Meaning you can't use a F70 BIOS on a F60 card, of vice versa.
