Title: Tips for minimizing Fees?
Post by: BitcoinBarrel on February 27, 2014, 09:22:37 PM
Almost every time I try to send a payment using Bitcoin-QT, I'm having to re-adjust the amount to try and get the fee down to 0.0005 BTC. Sometimes it can take awhile with some ridiculous fees being presented like 0.01 fee for a 0.005 transaction.

Any ideas?

Pay in cash. No fees.

nope. Never happen to me :)

Maybe some malware? :) I dunno.. (jk)

But when you save your config and relaunch qt you have to set up again yes?
Strange...
Someone else is having this problem?

0,0001 BTC for less than 0,1BTC
0,0002 BTC for more than 0,5BTC

for me in bitcoin-QT ... it's automated, i haven't touched the "default" setting (set at 0 fee).
you can't simply have a 0,01 BTC fee ... you have a big problem (0.8.6 Bitcoin-QT ... ?)

Here (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Transaction_fees#Sending) is some information how Bitcoin-QT calculates the fees.
You probably have received a lot of small payments. Then the transaction size can become large and your fee can exceed even the amount you want to send.
To minimize try to send all those small payments with one larger payment to one of your own addresses. If that's even to much you must send every time one of your small amounts with the big amount until you swiped up all your funds. But that can be very tedious.
In the future, don't receive dust payments.
