Just wondering what everyone's favorite old school dos games are i'm pretty partial to duke3d one of the best games ever lol.

Dammit, I can't remember the name of the game, but I literally spent days playing it.

It was a simple ascii-RPG game in the command line. Player had to walk around mazes, kill enemies, and collect various loot. The were several classes, spells, levels, etc. Maze, player, loot, enemies — everything was depicted with 1 ascii symbol.

And yes, there was no way to save the game (all saves were deleted after loading). But of course you could always backup the save file just in case.

Anybody remember the name of this one?

I am pretty sure that Krush Kill'n'Destroy was a DOS game ;-)

Have any of you tried the brutal doom mod with skulltag it's way better and more awesomer than the vanilla game but still mod or not doom is a classic and a good one at that too.  :D

OMG! Blood was so awesome! I remember Caleb (main protagonist) singing Sinatra's "Strangers in the night" while walking through cemetery.

From the PC/AT DOS era, the original Warcraft and Warcraft II, X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Ultima III, VI and II, Day of the Tentacle, Wind Commander II, Loom, Albion, Command & Conquer, SimAnt, Abuse, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Secret of Monkey Island (and 2), Blackthorne/Blackhawk, Dune I and II to name a few blockbusters. I never liked the Doom series but Quake was ace. One that wasn't too famous but was great and stood the test of time nicely is "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream".

From the PC/XT era not much really, since there were much much better platforms like Amiga, Atari ST. Even for the early AT era the Amiga was still much better, until around 1992 or so.

I was ~10 when I got it and it was so scary, I felt like watching a good horror movie, setting people on fire and kicking severed heads.

Another World had a cool atmosphere. I think there was a sequel to that, which started with the protagonist's cell mate this time, but I never got around to play it. Anyone here play that?

Descent was another awesome game I played in fact I think it was one of the first video games I played.It doesn't matter how old dos gets the games will always be awesome.

My brother had Descent, I played it briefly but didn't really stick at it for very long.

Hell: A Cyberpunk Thriller was a damn hard game.  Took me forever to beat.  Pretty sure that was launched in DOS.

Outdoor Activities forum is also Good outdoor Game..

Sim City 2000. I was too young to ever really understand how to accomplish anything, but building and then destroying things was fun.

I remember thinking, "why do they even have money in the game if you can just issue bonds to get as much money as you want?". I guess the US government played a lot of Sim City, too  ;)

Prince of Persia. Never got copy of that game until in late 2007 grabbed a scene release.

Uhh :) Playing Prince of persia in 2007 might be harmful :) hehe but this game is amazing and I love a way how they did animations :)
Very pro as for a oldie.

Out of those I only played Ultima VIII, but I don't see the relation between those games and WoW... other than both being RPGs.

Wow I remember the difference when I upgraded my CPU from 486 SX to DX (with the dedicated maths processor) - it was amazing! I measured how fast a computer was by how fast I could do a 'dir /s' and have it complete :)

I also had an 8086, 286, 386 SX and DX - the whole chain...

Before my SX I had amiga 600 and C-64 for a long time :) and then 486.
But my friend was owner of 286 :)

Yes - difference between SX and DX was amazing :P hehe...

I remember when playing VIVI - I was using turbo button to slow down the game.
DX was too fast for Vivi. Was like Vivi on steroids.

Pizza Tycoon scared me shitless as a kid... not like Phantasmagoria or other "horror" games where you expect it. Something about it deeply disturbed me, like I thought the developer was playing with me before stabbing me through the monitor. Idunno -- you know how kids can get paranoid about strange things... maybe it's time I face my deepest fear...

Definitely XCOM, though, as a favorite. I still pick it up every few years. There was also some kind of drug tycoon/sandbox/rpg/whatever game I liked which I haven't been able to ever find (I did find Homey the Clown again and have no idea why I enjoyed that game when I was little, though at least Castle of the Winds still holds up). I don't remember the FPS games I played as a kid... they all looked about the same. :D

well it never frightened me as a kid but i learned at the innocent age of 10 years the harsh reality
that you could make more money in this game by smuggling weapons between countries than selling pizza.  ;D

Sadly i missed out on the the whole XCOM series (only played the reboot last year and loved it), i played a lot of  turnbased strategy though when I grew older like Jagged Alliance 1 & 2 and Fallout 1 & 2.

the only crime related games i can think of from these times are Grand Theft Auto, Crime Fighter (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrTTKfjc-kE) and the textual based Drug Lord (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1FtGaMefGY).

damn i sank so many days of my life into these games...and it was worth every second  ;D

ah i missed out on "No Regret".
nearly every game i played in those times i got pirated from friends, cause i didn't have the pocket money for legal copies.
monkey island II, Worms and Grand Theft Auto were the first i really spent money on.

even today i dig the pre-rendered isometric perspective in these old titles. i like it so much more compared to most games with 3D-Engines because of the amount of detail in the assets & environments.

And I remember one important thing what was most amazing in "old" games - a gameplay! :) a story! Graphic was like it was - but those games had a spirit.

Would have to be Electronic Arts - Syndicate and Syndicate Wars. Would go Rambo style and play to the early hours.

while i was playing mario i reached up to 8 level without losing any life and getting chance ups and then all the lives went away  till 8-3..
