Title: How to find if airdrop is fake
Post by: Airdrophunter8 on August 18, 2018, 12:15:44 PM
This TIP based only on my experience how to know if the airdrop is fake

Few months ago i encounter a fake airdrop using a TELEGRAM BOT.
An airdrop bot pretending as a real airdrop of a coin already listed on CMC

How i find out if they're scam or not?
First i search the name of coin on COINMARKETCAP from there i saw the legit website of that coin..
Second i search the TELEGRAM GROUP CHAT link from the WEBSITE of coin
Then i ask the ADMIN in TELEGRAM GROUP CHAT if the airdropbot i saw is legit or not and they said to me its not legit..the COIN that using airdropbot i encounter are using only the name of their coin.

Another FAKE AIRDROP i saw last month is BITAIR, BITAIR asking for selfdrop to buy their token
i search the BITAIR WEBSITE and i find it.i see the TWITTER account from there website
and i notice on there last post was november 2017 if im not mistaken, and bit air ico sale was ended last november.

Both of this type of airdrop are SCAM, I noticed they both collecting a member for their TELEGRAM CHANNEL and collecting FOLLOWER on their twitter account, And asking for selfdrop then dissapear after of ICO Sale.

I hope this post can help some NEWBIE to avoid to be a victim of airdrop with selfdrop SCAM SCHEME.

Any other tip on checking if airdrop is legit?

I do not have any means to know fake airdrop, I just get on their telegram from that point I can make a conclusion for myself what the team is up to.

Some go as far as creating fake website and ask for your private key, anyway these scammers are issued to steal your personal data, your social account or cryptocurrency. You should treat any airdrop as possible scam and protect yourself

Well, I have participated in so many  airdrops and didn't really to differentiate between the real and fake ones.
In my own view, only a fake airdrop will ask for Wallet's private key.

We must be careful in choosing the airdrop that will be followed. It is better to check in detail about their project so we are not trapped in a fake airdrop. Some scamers try to commit fraud by holding fake airdrops to steal all your data.

If you search very well you might not get an answer to this question, because a lot of factor determines what happens . some you might think won't do well, end up leaving you with a good some of money. I advise just run the ones you mind tells you

No one can tell you that in fact, the short task is meaningless and wastes time. You should help time on the transaction, and only the transaction can make money.

The best way to determine if an Airdrop is fake is to check how much tokens are they giving out and its estimated value. If it exceeds the usual amount that is about $15 to $20, you can already have second guesses. Always check the website of the ICO and check their project, team and the actual progress made.

Well, there are a lot of fake airdrops. Especially if the website or the form that you have filling up needs to pass requires private key then, we can safely assume that it is a scam airdrop. Also if you give eth to this address something like that.

I only join airdrops if it's from known bounty platform like tokendrops but if not I will not waste my time to participate on those airdrops.

Check the telegram or other social network of the token. If there are airdrops, they will report to all media. If it is not, then it is the fake airdrop to attract user information

You can detect if the airdrop is fake when they promise that is too good to be true. They make an attractive website, they pay big for your small work. It's just a waste of time in joining airdrops.

Many ways to find out if the airdrop is fake or real: The ICO should be listed on iconench with good rating, must have verified team members and bitcointalk positive profile, also check their social media profiles amd support over telegram. If all these aspects are positive, then you can say their airdrop isn't fake

sad to say but airdrops are particularly not launching their ico, but there are some ico project who started launching their airdrop to increase the number of their community. but originally, airdrops start's without having their ico.

I don't think it is necessary to choose airdrop, as a lot of them and recorded in each, and choose something with the best of them will take a very long time.

Your information is very helpful, you are very careful in choosing airdrop.
I have been following the selfdrop 4x and indeed after I checked it turned out to be a fake airdrop.
safe tips for choosing airdrop that we must be very careful. that's all in my opinion.
and what you wrote above is enough to help choose airdrop.

Yup that have happened with me many times. This is specifically happening with the telegram groups only. The telegram airdrops are more or less dangerous because well they can be fake with the bots that are made to deceive the people. Many times these bots will pretend as authorised one and will pretend exactly the same as if they are real ones. Be sure to ask the official admin whether it is true or not and only click on the links and bots which are provided by their official group. That is the best way to avoid scam.
Also, many airdrops which are associated with the bounties and ICO's which are failing at their roadmap should not be participated because they will turn out to be scam later for sure.

I think you guys shouldn't waste time to find out the way to look for good airdrop :). Cause I think it's impossible :). For now, to find out a good bounty campaign or ICO project to join or invest is really difficult while number of good airdrop is much lower than bounty and ICO so I think although you guys know the way to find but it's impossible to find out any good airdrop at the moment :).

Don't get offend with my opinion I think most of Airdrops are dump and wasted! You know why because they are irrelevant in the sense of how could you convert it with that amount. besides most of the time it has not more than $10 in value maybe if you hold it for years and hoping that the value will reach $100 dollars someday. but that's not a reality the truth is Airdrop was created to gain Followers for the specific ICO community or to create and Artificial Hype.

I think we can find some suspicious situations from their telegram group. They may ask investors to send Ethereum through a place other than the website, and always ask you to recommend it to your friends and promise high returns.

I dont have enough knowledge to know if the airdrop is legit or scam, but as long as it is free, and the only thing you need to do is to sign up and become part of their community is fine by me.

Its hard to determine if the airdrop is legit or fake because some are looks like a legit because they make imitation like real airdrop so my advice to some airdrop fanatics do your own research about the airdrop you are going to participate to avoid scam.

I no longer want to follow airdrop because it will only waste time and the prize doesn't match my expectations, so I avoid airdrop and follow the bounty only.

The only thing I know on how do you spot a fake project, airdrop is that they are asking for payment (ethereum most is most common). But I think you'll probably know if you read things like the whitepaper or ask for the experts' advice.

Maybe checking the contract address of this airdrop is a good way. Sometimes you will find that there are no tokens or other tokens in their contract address. If they don't even show us the contract address, then don't join them.

First of all, I look at the award. If it is too big - this is definitely a reason not to trust this project. Usually, I do not participate in airdrops, where you just need to follow a telegram channel, and where they offer $20 for this manipulation. When a group is filled to 100 000, its name and theme changes. Airdrop is over  ;D

If they give you a google form then inside it there is a link that directs you to myetherwallet that ask you a verification code that your public key is legitimate, then stay out of it because it is 100% FAKE. It is hard to find legit paying airdrop nowadays since even cyber hackers are taking advantage of people's interest on collecting altcoins through airdrops.

One way for me to spot if an airdrop is fake is if there are many details about the project is missing or not disclosed. Also, the details about the team running the project is important. Check if they have a telegram group and see how active the team, not the manager, in answering inquiries and answering questions about the project.

Airdrops which ask you your private keys are the #1 fake airdrops. They claim to give you airdropped tokens equivalent to your ETH in your wallet and for this they state that you must share your private keys so that they can give you those airdropped tokens. But that is not any fork where you need to share the private key and hence it is scam and dont even ask anything, just move away from such sites or person. Another strategy that is used to fake peoples with airdrop is to ask for money! They state that for the confirmation it is mandatory to send some ETH to check valid addresses and thus get your ETH and these are obviously fake one.

Always make sure that the technology of the project that wants to do airdrop makes sense and also research the team behind these airdrops before doing it. These are some ways yo find out if the airdrop you are about to participate in is worth it

Generally when something is easy to obtain without any effort, you must beware before try to trust.
Since altcoin is risky investment and you already overcome the risk than it's become your luck that decide your fate !
Of course nobody know for sure but the decision is yours !

Most of the time you can tell if it's fake since they will be asking for money.  Never use your real information in the forms either.   If you follows these rules it wont matter if it's fake or not.  Fill the form out and hope for the best.

Beware most of all if they are requiring the participants to download and run something from your computer or phone, scan, update your computer and have a decent antivirus to prevent viruses that can steal wallets and information, asking some payments before participating is most likely a fake airdrop different from referrals and bonuses because airdrops are token freebies from an ICO company for such a small and easy task.

Sometimes some airdrops are not there in coinmarketcap but sometimes they do but if the airdrops are ain't there you can search on some ico rating sites like ico reward ico track and etc. and some of the airdrops have no websites but if they do some of them are fake, my only tip is check their social media sites like facebook or twitter and look if they have many followers and second also ask their manager on the telegram because they will know if it is real or not.

It is very difficult to find out if an airdrop is fake. One need to research the airdrops to find out the genuine ones. An airdrop will stimulate your apetite expecting money that will not be forthcoming.  Airdrops are unreliable.  They are mostly scams and not recommendable.

Truth be told, so many people just put up some form of airdrops from projects and ask the gullible ones to drop their information, but what they are indeed doing is to gather all these information and sell to the highest bidder who will use it to distribute their spam.

One of the reasons some people get their mails spammed from the likes of airdrops, unknown ICOs and bounties is because their email address was bought by those who perpetrate themselves as project owners doing airdrops.

Even airdrops from fake projects can still be distributed in the long run and you still end up bag holding it anyway. The thing is that, the same way you find out if a project is fake, is the same way you will know if it is an airdrop worth being a part of.

Normally, doing your due diligence on a project requires you to weigh the team capabilities, see if there is a product, and check if it would be relevant to bring in demand while checking what the roadmap is like before even considering it; otherwise it would be a waste of time.

if airdrop requires more information like KYC or private keys then it is possible that it is a scam. airdrops are free if they want you to send eth for the cost of sending the reward it is possible also to be scam.

If the project that make the airdrop doesn't look convincing I think it is false for. to follow for I'd rather join the airdrop project that makes the bounty and the sale of ico, it looks more convincing to me.

It's very difficult to determine the airdrop is fake or original because many people make the airdrop that resembles the original airdrop, so in my opinion only a few people can see the fake airdrop or not. It made me not follow the airdrop anymore because I was afraid of being fooled by fake airdrop.

I don't have any way to know about the fake airdrops, and it's best to check their program in detail so we don't get stuck in fake airdrops. It's really hard to find a good bounty event or an ICO project to join or invest in.

Newbie is often fooled by their lack of knowledge and experience. However the newbie should not worry, look for a group airdrop on the telegram and follow them. The airdrop programs have been tested.

I really do not like doing airdrop. I find it wasting time and I do not get anything from it. because now the whole rogue airdrop steals the participant information. I like to do bounty. The campaigns give me a good profit. I need capital to invest

There is no way you could tell if a certain Airdrop is a fake or not, you'll just know it at the end. You couldn't see something like a killer would tell you that he will kill you in that moment, right? that goes the same to your question OP. So, it would be a must that we should always be wise and choose only the airdrops we are going to join and not just randomly joining.

Thank you for sharing, it's helpful.
To me I don't think airdrops should be asking for kyc or self drops. Once I noticed these two, then am out.
Personally, I have done kyc for an airdrop which turned out to be scam. ANATOMY airdrop precisely.
So one should just be careful and trust God not fall victim.
Thank you.

Am I not getting this right ?
I mean ICO and token distribution and bounty all can be fake but how can airdrop be fake ?
Isn't it like a constant thing or is one time thing ?

I mean in both cases if you own a coin than you get airdrop of something else, if its fake you will sell the initial coin back, you are not paying for the airdrop, you are paying for a coin that will have airdrop like neo and gas, just get neo and if they don't give you gas than sell your neo ?

I think in the end if you are really betting on an airdrop than you probably researched it really well and you can probably understand if there is something fishy going around or not.

Not many of them are fake, it's just that their ICOs end up a failure. They're not worth the time doing them.

It is actually rather difficult to tell when an airdrop is fake or scam, most of the times you know that just after several months have passed and you didn't even get the rewards, also you could check the ICO project that is chained to the airdrop to see if they look reliable.

Best thing is to ask about airdrops in their telegram channels. Most of the time you will get a correct answer for those. Even the airdrop is a legit one, the rewards you get will be very very small.

I don't really like to participate in airdrop because most of them are scam and the ones that are not scam are worthless. But if airdrop go to the stage of asking you about your personal information then it is a scam and you shouldn't proceed with it.

If an airdrop is offering a ridiculous amount of money worth of tokens (think $1,000+) then it is likely fake. In fact, 99% of airdrops don't end up trading at the value they say they are worth. If you participate in an airdrop, do so with the knowledge that it will probably be worth one tenth of what they say the value is.

It's really very difficult to distinguish between a legit airdrop and a fake airdrop. I fill a lot of airdrops but what I do is to create a different login details to all those airdrops and the moment the tokens are dropped in my airdrop wallet, I quickly transfer it to my main wallet to avoid stories.

I don't think it is such an easy thing to different between scam airdrops, and genuine ones. Sometimes, you have already participated in the airdrop and time has passed before you will even find out that it has been a scam all along. I think that the best we can do is to b careful out there, and not just jump on any project that we come across.

Mostly you have said all of the things that we have to do to try to determine if an airdrop is fake or not. I would like to point out though that this is not always going to work all of the time. Generally airdrops do not take a lot of time to do so the best thing you should just do is to do the airdrops, put your wallet address in and forget about it and move on

Bounty campaign is the best part to get altcoins. Just to get altcoin, you only have to see a credible manager's bounty campaign. At least by choosing a bounty campaign manager you will avoid from scam projects. At this time, I am not sure that any project airdrop will give someone a profit, most of those who have taken part with several airdrops end in regret. So, love your time and stay away from a few things that only give a hope.

Using 2 different emails is a good idea to minimize the risk of being scammed there's any way scammer would do to get rid of your information.

That was I actually use to secure my account and information. Its very proven and tested. Just all you have to do is create 2 emails : 1 email for your important account such as social media like, facebook, twitter, bitcoin, eth, xrp etc. wallet an 1 email you'll be using for airdrops. From that strategy youre account will be prone for scammer and also hacker.

Just make your password different to your main email and make it more difficult to crack. Example : CrYpTOTaCtIC!?1232

It will take 1 zentillion years to crack that shit except you are trap in a phishing site. ROFL :D

Same thing in investing your money, just give time to research and study about an ICO project before putting your money on in so you won't regret in the end.

I do it because there is no investments of funds in signing the forms and I don't join on self drops because I don't want to lose some ether on requesting transactions. Airdrop is a very low income, which can not cover you even the commission for transfer to the exchange.
Take a better bounty campaigns. Buy a rank Cupper Member for a signature campaign. And you can also deal with those types of bounty, where there is no reference to rank on the forum.

Some airdrop doesn't even have a website very obvious of a scam occuring on that project.

Just check the official telegram of the project where you have joined their airdrops. If there are official announcement about the aidrops, then yhere is a chance that it will not be a fraud. But this trick will not work if the project itself is a scam so be careful still and read as much as possible especially with the projects' baaackground as well as the teams behind.

What I can only tell is that they are fake if they manage to have thousands of Telegram members in just a few hours. It means that they have done this before and they know how to scam. Also, majority of airdrops were scams and just want to get info or ID's for KYC. You need to be aware on what you were joining or better yet, don't even think about joining as its not giving out high rewards. Its not worth the RISK.

This can be very difficult. You should give up the airdrop mission because there is too much air inside. They won't give you any coins or they will give you some unknown coins. These coins will never go on the market. Perhaps only one of the 10,000 missions is true, such as XLM's KYC airdrop.

I often find airdrops like this, it's a pity if we have worked to promote their projects but when receiving distribution tokens they cannot be sold. the most important thing is you have to look at their community then check the admin on the project via telegram.

The real options in order to really invest in projects that can be checked today is very difficult. Everything rests only on the correct analysis of the project, which today can not be done, all sorts of options are just options.

Most fake airdrops I've noticed in the past are released through telegram bots and twitter ,some even copy projects alread6 available on coinmarketcap but the scammer introduced them as erc20 but originally its coin not erc20 ,fake ones I've come across are tron and bitcoin diamond airdrops

To know is likely to be possible only when many will begin to share his investigation about the coin!
I agree, it is extremely difficult to determine the project Scam or not , I think do not waste time and think the project is associated with a Scam or not , I think better do bounty

I think you should check the project that is doing an airdrop. If the project is legit, I would also join its airdrop and I do not think that you should invest so much time in checking an airdrop status. Just ask the admins in Telegram.

The fact is that even in Telegram admins need to be checked, because in very interesting projects there are fake names that are negative counterparts to the admin and try to deceive the project participant.

That information is good to know if the airdrop is legit or fake. Doing research is best to know it by reviewing it and analyzing it you can create an Idea if it's legit or not. But you can know once the airdropairdrop is done.

I can tell you right away. Most airdrop is a fraud in order to get your data.
Those Airdrop that remained, pay very little money in the amount of up to $ 5.
All this suggests that there is no point in participating in the Airdrop.

Airdrops like these are very common, which is one of the reasons I do not like engaging myself in airdrop. There are only few genuine ones.
Airdrops are meant to be free, which makes me not to like the idea of selfdrops and I will never give out my money for any selfdrop.
Sometimes airdrop participants do not just have choice, but to keep trying, until they get a genuine one, but I advise them not to give out their fund.

Nowadays its really hard to spot a legit ICO.
Most of them ends with fails and you work for free.
So i was not applying on bounties and airdrops for a long period.

Well, it is good analysis. I also always check the telegram group whether they are seemly trusted or not to hold ICO, bounty,  airdrops, or the programs. Then, never forget about analyzing their team member based on their social media and other link. So that we can check whether they are real or not.

Yes, there are a lot of coins with the same name, and I don’t think that it’s just like that. Most likely they are fraudsters who hope for inattention.

And what do you think they should tell you? It seems to me that the situation as a whole resembles some sort of market, where you can come and ask the seller whether the goods are fresh? Of course he will say that everything is fine.

In my experience it's mostly airdrop from tokens that use the Ethereum platform, so I look for the contract address between the original token and the fake token in airdrop and it's very clear that it's different, so we can be sure that it is fraud.

Look for the root cause as a project, study the project itself, the idea, the team, partners, white paper. Find project weaknesses and ask questions about them. So you can determine how good the project is, and if it’s good, then everything that it offers is also good.

For me all airdrops are fake, they are distributing their token, because they knew that the receiver of these airdrops will help them get into the market, from there the dev will pour all their bags and those who bought will end up losing their investment.

I don't see any airdrop that could give us much,  it only just a pity. I've participated a lot of airdrops before but it is so sad that only few of them will give their promise.  It lead into the possibilities that mostly airdrops are just a scam and never expect to have them. That is why,  I stop from doing it and focus on bounties and trading.

For me, the first indicator of a scam airdrop is the need to go through an KYC, or install some third-party application or wallet. That’s how fraudsters get access to our information.

The easiest way to find out if the airdrop is fake or not - is to enter the telegram chat of this project and ask admins there. If there are no telegram chats you can check their social media accounts: Twitter, Facebook, Medium. Also check if they have Discord channel or Slack. The last way to check this issue is writing to their support via email.

In fact, these experiences are meaningless. In fact, the airdrop mission has been abused. Like the ICO project, they have been abused. Now ICO is dead and the airdrop mission disappears. Perhaps this is a purification of the cryptocurrency market, but I am not sure if it will be reborn.

the way you give it is very true and I strongly agree with you, to be able to know the authenticity of the existing airdrop you should be able to ask on the telegram group chat that you can see on their website, make sure they actually provide an airdrop program so you can knowing that the program exists and is not fake.

First i search the name of coin on COINMARKETCAP from there i saw the legit website of that coin..

99 percent of airdrop are not in the exchange, Therefore you can't find it there.
Coinmarketcap needs to have 3 exchanges on before listed on CMC and need a 24 hours volume cap.
It is okay to join many airdrop as long as you can but never do KYC.

Any other tip on checking if airdrop is legit?
from various kinds from Airdrop, just as there are various people who are troubled if they want to get tokens must send KYC. looking for legit Airdrop is indeed rather difficult, it is better if indeed we want to get payment try to join in the bounty, I am more confident bounty than Airdrop.

You can determine fake airdrop if they are asking for your private address of your erc20 trusted wallet. You can also see if they have a proper website, if they only get their site on companies that offer making free sites then it will be a red flag.

I, too, have long realized that airdrops is in most cases a fraud. Has long passed the era when people were making on airdrops a lot of money. It's not relevant anymore. Beginners often come here for an easy way to get money and often face similar scams. So I think you were right to post about it. We need to protect as many people as possible so that they do not fall for such projects.

It is better not to take a risk with airdrops. Because most of them are fake. Check their social media profile and telegram. If the airdrop is fake than they mustn't have verified team member.

Exactly. The point is we have to check social media of the related project, especially Twitter. Because usually, crypto projects use twitter as a means of sharing information, including the airdrop announcement.

Airdrops are now officially a waste of time
Except you are able and willing to run hundreds of account

Why ??

If 100 airdrops are launched, 95% are all frauds

The 5% that are real will definitely end up costing about 2$
All not having value
