Title: Best way to cool miner?
Post by: Musent on February 28, 2014, 03:33:37 PM
I have 3 miners that just have the fans from the GPU running. The 2 rooms they run in are extremely warm. Since I'm relatively new to the mining scene, what would be a great way to get the heat down?

you can easily cool it down if you just buy the fan that will constantly work

air conditioning always helps.

Air conditioner is on and still is hot. Maybe a better answer would work or something relevant?

Do you have one you'd recommend?

Vague question received a vague answer:

So we has assessed you have 3 GPUs running somewhere with only their stock cooling and the room does in fact have air conditioning.

A little more info may help specifically around how your mining rig is setup and what brand/model of cards?

If it is an "open" style rig a simple box fan can do wonders for cooling.  IF it is enclosed in a case that is the first issue as the heat they are creating isn't escaping the case quickly enough to keep them cool.  Most video cards cool by airflow across the heat sink.  Reference model cards push air from rear to front of card across the heat sink, other models push air down from the top of the heat sink and out the sides.

The best cooling without going to a liquid cooled setup which is overkill most of the time is to have an open frame rig, in a temperature controlled location (ie air conditioning or drawing cool outside air) all cards pointing the same way and creating air flow across those cards in the same direction as the cards are cooling typically from the rear of the card towards the front, the front being where it's bracket and output connectors are.

If you can give us pics and more info about how you are setup we may be able to provide a more clear answer pertaining to a box fan or a series of case fans to get the job done!

you need to have better air circulation. and use good fans.
