Title: first time sending bitcoins Post by: illmattic on March 01, 2014, 04:30:48 AM I just sent 0.01 bitcoins from my qt wallet to my exchange wallet but when I went to look up the transaction under blockchain it shows 0.01 being sent to my exchange wallet but 0.9 being sent to a different address. My balance under blockchain reflects sending 0.1 while my balance under my qt wallet shows ive only sent 0.01?

To protect your privacy, the client takes the neccesary inputs for the transaction and sends them to the destination address, the reminder is then sent to a "change"-address within your wallet. Your wallet has a set of 100 pregenerated addresses for change, so your coins are not lost, but just sit in another address.
