Title: Anything good to mine?
Post by: sparker327 on August 22, 2018, 02:56:40 PM
After years of mining I'm in the "boring" category with nothing good currently to mine or that I can find on the horizon. Anyone have anything good they are mining I might have missed or coming up? I'm sure there are others out there who are starting to feel the same...

Nothing is really good to mine now specially with GPU and Altcoins. The ASICS already invaded Equihash algorithm. The good thing to do now is to sell the GPU's or find another way of making money into it.

Well, as of now there is no good coins to mine that is why I sacrifice the other rigs to mine shitcoins for short term because it gives me profit than staying mining with ethereum.

Try to use this https://coincalculators.io and https://whattomine.com

It seem all proof of work mining are being phased out. I can barely make 3$ a day  from my ASIC btc, even with cheaper electricity

This makes no sense. Because profitability is not where you think it should be, somehow PoW is getting phased out? There is nothing out there even close to replacing it. Go take a look at how bad the PoS stuff for ethereum has gone....

Title: Re: Anything good to mine?
Post by: leowonderful on August 22, 2018, 06:02:27 PM
I definitely agree PoW isn't going anywhere in the near future, as PoS just isn't going to cut it for completely replacing PoW- it's got too many issues as of now, and I'm not saying there aren't better proof systems out there, but PoW is currently the best option.

Assuming you're using an S9, you have electrical costs of around $0.02/kWh- you're still better off than most people are with SHA256, and profitability dropping is just a part of mining. It's unfortunate that you're not making more with your SHA256 ASIC, but PoW's working just fine.

GPU mining is now not profitable but if you really believe in a coin it is totally worth it. but the coin need to be asic proof other wise it is not profitable.

If you do some research on youtube or google you defintly find 'good' GPU/CPU coins.

Title: Re: Anything good to mine?
Post by: ARENA-DEV on August 22, 2018, 08:01:10 PM
It is sad to say that GPU mining is in a current low, PoW is unsustainable in the long term. Yet as people said before here PoW is the best Proof system currently, the others are energy efficient but have way to many issues. PoS is a great option but it needs ALOT of work before completely replacing PoW If it ever could!

But if you dont have a coin you really like and want to mine I would suggest NiceHash to keep your miners working and making something at least. It auto-changes algo to keep profitability up, this being said GPU mining is still very low ATM.

Its better to mine newer coins with low supply ,now that difficulty is low ,I'd try out few cryptonight coins like festival coin ,italo and haven ,one more thing ,don't look at the profit ,go after quantity ,this coins are good projects and am sure they will moon if Btc raise or not .that's why it's better to mine newer coins ,profits is always higher

Yes. Thanks to cryptobubble and corporate level GPU mining. It completely kills the idea of being Democretized/Decentralized nature of Cryptocurrency.

Whattomine.com is your best bet in any way, just mine anything that's most profitable, then exchange them in coin which you think has great potential of rise. Seems you created this thread because you don't have idea what to hold. To my mind there are two best options: mine with nicehash and hold bitcoins, it will rise a lot, I highly believe it for some reasons. Mine most profitable coin with the GPU or Asics you own and exchange them in monero. This coin is more anonymous than bitcoin, so monero may be a future.

that's how I've been feeling. Was just curious if anyone had any good "mining" coins out there I might have missed. I don't CPU or ASIC mine anymore, that shipped sailed a long time ago. I was using my GPU's and rather enjoying finding new coins to throw them at. Now, it just seems no matter how much I look for one, I cant find anything interesting and not ICO related. thanks

Even if someone knew a coin that gives now 10$/ti(yeah right  ;D :D)  as soon as it would be posted here the profitability would plummet to NH levels.

Problem is it's just not 2017 anymore, no one is throwing bitcoin at random shitcoins so you have most coins launched priced at nothing.
Add to this that there are easy 3x more gpus now than a year ago, a big network(Zcash) did a 180 on their ASIC resistance stance and fucked all gpu miners and while I don't belive the eth network to be overtaken totally by ASICs, eth is now at a yearly low and is still the biggest gpu POW player by far, there is no other network that gets close to it in $$/day paid to miners.

Still nothing to say that all this is dead, not by far.

Like you, i also have a GPU that hasn't been sold until now(So hard to sell due to competition). I discovered some new coins but they're really not that profitable if we rely on the risk-level of the coin. Technically speaking, the best thing for NVIDIA to mine right now is Bitcoin Gold.

I'd mine RVN if it was a bit more profitable... Or XHV. I'd mine Linda if I had an ASIC (but I don't so I bought coins that I stake - and that's actually going quite nicely).

Doing sig campaigns to make some crypto on the side, and just trying out that TaTaTu (https://beta.tatatu.com/?tid=67b8ae8c-775d-471a-a7d2-09025fae28fa) thing (cheeky referral link included! :D) which is quite fun. Basically it's a streaming service that pays you back some of the ad revenue in tokens. It's still in beta but it works pretty well. Free to sign up too.

Currently I just have my 570's and Vegas on the Cryptonight MoneroOcean switcher and the 1080 rig is mining LUX... for one more day, then it's being switched off.  :'(

Check out Merit. Its an invite only mining crypto currency that has a super easy to use miner through the wallet. Just added GPU mining recently and a new reward algorithm called Proof of Growth 2. It rewards you based on the number of active people in your community (people who used your referral link) and by the amount of MRT you hold.

Use my code @parachuteitst0ny if you want me to unlock a wallet for you!

Yeah i'd like to chime in and say that mining Ethreum is still the safest best for now. Probably not the most profitable, but if you don't have the time to do the research and just want to play safe then just mine Ethereum.

Or better yet, sell your mining rig and buy some Ethereum directly.

Have you had a chance to check out the website and read the white paper? If not, Id recommend doing those two things before jumping to the ponzi scheme conclusion mate.

Anyone can go to the website and get an invite from the community (Discord/Telegram/etc). It doenst cost them a thing but it adds a tremendous value to the proof of growth ability.

The website does an excellent job of explaining but the network uses proof of work (like many others) and proof of growth. Two prong approach to distribution. Invites are just a layer to help map out the communities.

t's huge for someone like me who doesn't really have a rig or farm to do POW but I can totally get rewards for growth. I mined it for a bit back in the CPU days but now that GPUs have been added to it. I can no longer mine but have been getting steady rewards from the Proof of Growth.

Check it out before you assume it is a ponzi scheme ust because it is invite-only.
