You can only use numbers and if it's not empty, it will show a button under your profile that leads to this website:

http://www.icq.com/whitepages/about_me.php?uin=YOUR-ICQ-ID

So, using it for anything else is quite useless.

I don't think I've used my ICQ login for about 15 or 20 years. Totally forgotten about it honestly. I doubt that my account even still exists at this point!
Is that service even still widely used? I suppose if the option is there to include it in the forum profiles, they must still have a large enough presence to make it worth it.

For all I know, it has maybe even grown by leaps and bounds in design and functionality and I am just in the dark... ::)

The current forum software is quite old (SMF 1.1.19) and the ICQ option is there by default. I don't think many people still use it, but the option is still there simply because there are no real reasons to remove it. I've also seen a few users who still use it.

Personally, I don't even know what is ICQ. Maybe I'm just too young to know it :D I googled it and I see it's old thing which isn't popular anymore.
And on Bitcointalk there are some more obsolette services which can be added to our profiles - AOL messenger, MSN messenger, Yahoo messenger. Even Skype isn't popular as it was 6-8 years ago. I don't know is it possible to remove it from SMF, maybe it's difficult or theymos just don't see reasons to do that. But it would be cool to replace it with services which are really used by people nowadays - Telegram, Facebook, Twitter and something similar.

Ideally just fill in an email address (preferably not your everyday email) I suppose. Bitcointalk has been hacked before (2015) and despite the efforts of the people running the forum this might happen again. This happens a lot with dozens of profiles you made for online services over the years but the difference here is that once the attacker knows you are involved with cryptocurrencies they might give your information some extra attention.
