Title: Accused of scam in this forum
Post by: Evgeni_Agranat on August 24, 2018, 05:11:39 PM
Hi guys!

I think that somebody stole my identity and I need your help.
My name is Evgeni and thats my first post on this forum.
I don't know anything about bitcoins (except what I hear from the news) and never had a single bitcoin in my entire life.
Few weeks ago I randomly Googled my name and was shocked to see the result.
My Facebook profile screenshots were posted here five(!) years ago and a user named "alexout" claimed I'm scammer.
I sent PM to 2 random moderators here, but unfortunately got no reply.

I really don't know what should I do in this case. Please help me to figure out.

That thread is 5 years old.  Aside from your name, is all that information YOUR information?  Date of birth (10/21/92), etc.?

There's not much you can do anyway, since it's essentially a dead thread.

Yes!
The screenshots on FB account are actually mine.
I just wonder how my name got here..
Is it possible to delete it? Im not a public figure, but it really bothers me to see myself as "scammer" when I Google my name  :(

I can understand that...

But 5 years later, and it's now you are "concerned" with your reputation??? I don't think there's way to get that out of Google m8...

Though the thread is 5 years old, the Original poster is still active here.

After transferring the funds he was unfriended by the account. If he was ONLY unfriended and not BLOCKED by the user, he can still view the profile of this account (link through the Message) unless it was deleted. Though I'm unsure if the existence of  both accounts (his and yours) are strong evidence to prove that it's not you and if @alexout will spend time to look into it.

The screenshots on FB account are actually mine.
He mentioned that this account messaged him on Facebook. If your account info can be seen Publicly, then anyone, especially posers could just copy it.

Anyway, @alexout didn't directly say that it's you. In the title he put "probably", meaning it's almost, but not really certain and in the main post he said:
So either that was him or him on a hacked account or one of his friends.
I think people will consider the fact that there are fake accounts/posers, especially it happened online.

I don't think there's way to get that out of Google m8...
But if ever the Thread title will be edited, it will update in Google as well.

Since the author of the post is still active (he was online 9 days ago) if you are both in good faith you will be able to explain him and he probably will change the post. Just message him using the my messages tab.

my advise is to do nothing.

Alexout did you a favour by raising this issue 5yrs ago.... and prevented your identity thief from doing more damage. (in your absence mind you). PM him and thank him for having your nemisis red flagged as a scammer.

Well... It may sound strange, but I never Googles my name before.
The only way to get it out of Google is to delete the post.

Though the thread is 5 years old, the Original poster is still active here.

Good point. I just checked my FB block list and all the blocked people there are my ex gfs and people I know personally. Theres nobody in that list called Alex, and nobody I don't know personally.

Since the author of the post is still active (he was online 9 days ago) if you are both in good faith you will be able to explain him and he probably will change the post. Just message him using the my messages tab.
Will do now. Thank you for your advice.

UPDATE: Just tried to text him and got error message: "User 'alexout' has not chosen to allow messages from newbies. You should post in their relevant thread to remind them to enable this setting."

Can somebody refer him here please?

Let me answer you by giving an example.
Imagine that one day you Google your name and find out that five years ago somebody posted in some forum you never visited screenshots from your personal FB account with accusations of being pedophile. What would you do in that case?

I remember that few years ago my  account has been hacked and I restored my password, but I didn't see anything suspicious when I got it back.

Sent 1 BTC and i dell all info about you scammer.

Quoting for reference.

If I found out that my pictures had been smeared all over a popular forum with something incriminating; I would be pretty worried.

Also, the way @alexout is talking; this is alot like blackmail.

It would be better if you actually discuss what transpired and what proof do u have about him/her. Simply demanding 1 BTC to delete the thread is extortion.

EDIT: I just searched with the name of OP and the scam thing is on 3rd; on the VERY 1st page; guess any girl/boy/LGBTQ he would have been trying to hook up with would have avoided him like plague on tinder or fb; on just did a small Google search.

EDIT 2: I remember mprep talking about this somewhere; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streisand_effect . Congratulations OP you'll increase the views on the thread; but what other choice did u have?

Possibly you could have made a few blog posts or forum posts on other relevant forums which would have been good at SEO to put this below the search list. I find posts on linkedin, youtube, google+, etc. do a good job at it.

Please do so; with the kind of proof at hand; you'll be setting yourself up for a nice defamation suit in quite a few jurisdictions.

Also give me the name of newschannel and time of broadcast. I'll be interested to know which knucklehead journo covered such frivolous accusations.

Mods or admin won't help or can't help. It doesn't establish anything. But yeah you can change the title of the thread to reflect your name; so that when someone searches you on google; both pop up simultaneously and people can make informed decision on you.

Try messaging theymos or report the original thread to the mod of that board claiming a fake DOX.

See if that helps.

Update:
Since I don’t get help from forum’s staff to remove the original post and clean my name, I done a little research by myself. Discovered his identity and the place he live in (Nimmana condominium, Nimmanhaeminda Road Soi 6, Chiang Mai, Thailand).
I have reported the Thai police already about him and his criminal behaviour online.

Remove that information about him and try to give him evidence that you are not the person who scammed him. If indeed your facebook account was hacked and used to scam him he can show evidence to the police that what he posted about you is truth.

Thats because Facebok is an open network, and anybody can use your profile details for anything.

It had happened like millions of times.

One day, probably, people will learn not to post everything about themselves (i hope so), and to appreciate privacy.

Also, delete your Facebook profile. You will thank me later.

Btw, you are not alone

Excuse me, but this is not logical.

Why would you want smaller ammount of BTC if he is the one who scammed you?

I can't remember a case where people wanted just a small part of their stolen property?

Btw bitcoin is not money.

If the scam happened some years ago the value of bitcoin was lower so he wants the same value. I doubt he would have open a thread if he wasn't scammed. But if the OP didn't scammed him and can show some evidence of his innocence, the thread should be removed or changed.
