Title: Newbie how you can detect phishing Airdrop
Post by: wizardcrypto on August 27, 2018, 07:33:27 PM
What Is Phishing AIrdrop?
Fraudsters send fake airdrop or set up fake web sites to trick you into disclosing your private identity to them.  Typically, fraudsters try to trick you into providing your user name and password so that they can gain access to an online account. Once they gain access, they can use your personal information to commit identity theft, charge your credit cards and even hacker into your cryptocurrency exchange account .
Phishing attacks are more rampant than ever before, rising by more than 162 percent from 2010 to till date.

How do I check for phishing airdrop links?
when filling airdrop formsfrom a site or google form, you will recieve a mail telling you that you should verify your ether address, hover your mouse on the link you will see a different email never click on the link for verification because this will lead you to  mytherwallet address website where you will be ask for private keys once you enter your private keys your account is 99% hacked.
no genuine airdrop will ask for your personal traditional bank account details.
possibly through Gleam or Vyper).
Grammatical and spelling errors.
Not linked from official channels.
Posted from brand new accounts.
They ask for donations.
They use well known IP’s
There’s no way to withdraw without a purchase.
They promise decent amounts of money.
It doesn’t feel right.

in conclusion there is no free money anywhere , a price must be paid, you need to ask yourself what is the price to be paid to receive a free coin/token/money? what are the exercises or task involve ? answering these few question wholeheartedly we save your time , because time is equals money.

These are great tips and things that all newbies should look for if they want to participate in airdrops and avoid scams. I've seen some pretty elaborate airdrop phishing websites and sometimes they can be hard to tell apart from the real ones. But definitely a rule of thumb is to never give out your private keys to anyone because once you do they have full control over your wallet. Also, it might be a good idea to pick up a hardware wallet to help protect your funds.

I have become disillusioned with Airdrops for a while now. So many of them are not actually airdrops anymore and are more like bounties where you have to jump through hoops to get a few bucks- not for me! :-[

However, i thought i'd add to this post that i have seen a good few fake twitter accounts of certain ICO's and their follower count is high (sometimes as high as the actual pagemaking them look legitimate, so a lot of people will fall into the trap and fill in the fake google form and give all their details away to some petty scammer who will spam the life out of your email address at best.

You should not give your private keys but it is known by everyone I assume. Also not give your email addresses you use on exchanges.

In short, avoid ICOs & Airdrop.  :D
I do not know why some people are crazy to join Airdrop or get a certain number of tokens.
In addition to what mentioned above:
Download metamask[1], this guide is good to use[2].
Check the address/site more than once.
Check the address/site after you paste"copy/paste virus."
Use a separate device for your bank accounts, your personal information and your wallet.

Use a seperate laptop for anything that might be sketchy including torrenting.  You should have one safe computer and one for risky things.

Do not provide any important information you use on exchange site like email address. Do not provide your private key/utc/json/keystore file unless you want to buy or sell erc20 tokens, bitcoin, ethereum. Preventing is the best solution.

Or dual boot Linux and only use it for crypto activities. Most wallets support it anyway, and you'll be removing viruses from the equation almost completely. A virtual machine set up could also work, but I'd say it's more vulnerable.

Some basic rules should be followed while sharing your information online to get few tokens that might be not worth much.
Don't share your primary email. Instead set up another email for such tasks because later on they might even spam, you just don't know.
If any website asks for the private key, Beware ! It is a scam.

While airdrops get you free tokens, I would recommend you to get involved in constructive ways to earn crypto because it would be of more value to the time spent !

Awesome tips, abundant blessings for what you wrote, I encountered such airdrop once and almost fell for it. We need to be really careful when filling those forms.

Thanks and several more things. Better do not participate in airdrop IF

1. If a drop is from very no-name company
2. if this drop is by a company with the name, but take place somewhere outside official website and there is no any mention on official sources.

If your signing up in an airdrop form and ask you to give your private keys it is indeed a phishing attempt. Always remember never give your private keys to anyone.

This one and the only thing is please don't give your private key to any airdrop, bounty or anywhere. Because that campaigns are totally the scam and think twice before you post KYC documents to any airdrop.

Thanks you for this enlightenment. We need to think twice before we even apply for any airdrop. Majority are scams and some are also a way of harvesting your informations which they can sell to a third party. That is why you often get unsolicited mails and telegram group invite. Scam everywhere now.

This piece is certainly going to come in handy someday, a brother of mine recently gave out his private key while participating in an airdrop, I advised him to quickly transfer all his coins out of that wallet, as no genuine airdrop or even bounty would as for your private key.

The simple answer is don't participate in airdrops that require a bunch of information. It's okay if they're just asking your name, social media, and public wallet address but if they're asking for too much beyond that then I'd run away fast.

I usually avoid any airdrop that asks for private key (anyone in his/her right mind would) and also don't partake in any airdrop that only has a telegram channel without a telegram group

To avoid phishing website specially if they want you to register to their official website just ignore it only joined on telegram bot airdrops atleast you wont get caught on fake website where their hidden agenda is to take your email and password so always secure it by using 2FA
