Will be nice to have as many of these Mt. Gox Call Center Conversations posted in one place.

Recording of the conversation would be best for your records,
but also for us to learn how they act and answer to certain questions.

I tried calling several times. A couple of times I got through, and was met with muzak. This muzak lasted for so long that I had to hang up, due to monetary concerns. I'm pretty sure this is just another one of Mark's schemes to milk us. He probably gets his share of the money we waste on expensive long-distance phone calls that result in nothing but muzak and maybe some automated program reciting a couple of lines in Japanese or broken English.

It's not clear what, if any, answers Mt. Gox will be able to provide regarding the lost bitcoins. The company blamed a vulnerability to the Bitcoin system known as "transaction malleability" for the disappearance. There's widespread consensus in speculation from Bitcoin community that the funds were stolen and are gone for good, rather than in some kind of digital purgatory waiting to be reclaimed.  "

I want to add/correct to this that transaction malleability= double spending, and is a minor flaw in the bitcoin protocol that hackers  can exploit and steal bitcoins.  This can only be done on outdated/badly programmed software though.

The widespread consensus in my opinion is that MTGox made mistakes in the past and have been trying to correct ever since, this was a sinking ship since summer 2011.

What could they possibly be able to say?  If they're going for bankruptcy the answers will just be that you can file a claim in the bankruptcy case...

Just tried twice.  The first time it rang a few times and hung up on me.  The 2nd time the call failed and just gave me a strange "faile connection" type tone.  I checked the number very carefully:  011-81-3-4588-3921.

I got five minutes of elevator music and then I bailed out. Didn't want to wait on hold for a half an hour to perhaps get someone who only speaks Japanese— I figure I'll try again once someone reports how it goes, potentially bringing in a translator if required.

Perhaps we pool together then conference them in.

Check out Reddit. Someone there got through. Apparently, on the other end, there was only a Japanese woman who didn't speak English, and the caller got no info. He sat through half an hour of muzak first ...

Poor lady probably had no idea of what's due by 10 o'clock. I thought they were going to throw that "we apologize, we're trying to solve..." crap again. How come I always under estimate Mark?

I started by attempting to ask if anyone speaks english (I took it in highschool but didn't retain much).
Operator: I can try
Me: Thanks. First I was wondering if it's possible to get a statement of my account at MtGox.
Operator: What is your name?
(after several minutes of me trying to convey the spelling of my name)
Operator: My supervisor says we cannot current provide any information on this.
Me: What information can you give me?
Operator: We can not provide any information except to tell you that we will update the website with new information soon.
... I know better than to accept "soon" as a timeline from gox
Me: When is soon?
Operator: Within 6 hours.
So apparently new info on the website within 6 hours. Don't bother calling in because they can't tell you anything.

smh... pointless call center is pointless call center

well, I guess that was to be expected...

we shall wait until the update. whats new Mark?

Why are they wasting money setting up a call center? Stop leaking money, figure out whats left, and split it up proportionally. Thats the best solution for everyone.

Setting up separate contact numbers and addresses is standard in crisis management.  Implemented by anyone except MtGox, it would be a positive thing.

As to your suggestion of "figure out whats left, and split it up proportionally. Thats the best solution for everyone", that was never a realistic option.  This was always going to be sorted out by one legal process or another and under rules which are not of MtGox's choosing or the choice of its users.  There's going to be a lot more "leaking money" before this is done.  A hell of a lot of professionals who get paid hundreds of dollars per hour are going to be involved in untangling this - a few minimum wage call centre staff are the least of anyone's worries.

How stupid and inefficient is this call center to get the word out on their client's funds? Why not just post a press release with what exactly happened to the funds/coins?

EPIC LOL! Can they be even more retarded in their actions?

Setup a call center to answer customer questions and then not answer questions when a customer calls.

EPIC FAIL  :D :D :D

Non-stupid questions to ask:

* What is the case number in the Tokyo District Court?
* What is the name of the supervisor appointed by the Court?
* Do you in the call center work for Mt. Gox, the Tokyo District Court, or some other organization?
* Have any criminal charges been made with the police in  Japan?
* What law firm represents Mt. Gox in this matter?
* Has Mr. Karpeles been interrogated by the Tokyo police?
* Has any Mt. Gox employee been interrogated by the Tokyo police?
* Who is the contact person at the Tokyo police regarding Mt. Gox thefts?
* Has Mr. Karpeles ever been convicted of a crime?
* When and where will Mt. Gox hold their next press conference?

Answers to those questions might be useful.

#1 should be:
* Can I have my money/bitcoins back?

unless we don't care about that all of the sudden.

So... I spoke with their English representative.

I asked if there is anything I need to do to get a Creditor status or do I get it automatically. He said there's nothing I can or need to do, except checking the website for updates. He said they are waiting for the court to release its' decision about how to move forward from here.

I asked if he has an ETA for when that will be released, he said no.

I asked if there is anything I can or need to do at this time and he said no. He said "all I can recommend you to do is check the website from time to time as we will add updates there."

I was told the creditors meeting (to present plan to avoid bankruptcy) would happen but they can't say when.

Same stuff about check the website etc.

I did try to explain that groups of people were tracking suspected Gox wallets on the blockchain and that these show that Gox has more Bitcoin than has been stated. The lady told me she had not heard about this. I asked how I could get this message through to the supervisor and she said that I could call back with more info and she would pass the message back. They can't accept e-mail unfortuntately.

So it might be a good idea to gather the wallet theories from those who have been investigating and put them up on a simple web-page. Then call back and provide them with the www address of the page.

Yes I will start such a project after my vacation over gox-self-help:.

https://www.olivere.de/mailman/listinfo/gox-self-help

I would call it "goxytron".  :)

First I will write a prototype in Perl based on the BLOCKCHAIN API:
https://blockchain.info/de/api/blockchain_api

As "Inputs" I will use the work that was done on reddit. Later we get maybe some official and more trusted information from Gox to feed the "goxytron".
I want to make the stolen coins permanently visible, of course, under the constraints of the bitcoin protocol that is simply not possible. But I have ideas.

But as I write here this are just ideas. I'm going on vacation soon. And when I come back and all the work is already done. I would be very happy.  :)

Therefore: do not wait on me.  :)

remember how gox froze outgoing btc, then outgoing btc and fiat, well  the court just froze more of mt gox, leaving him with just enough to live on (at his current standard of living) and mount his defense

so to answer your question directly ... Mt Gox is no longer "running", it is now frozen.

He asked who WILL be running Gox.

I really hope there will be some recovery here... some team/company that buys Gox out and plan a creditor repayment method.

People on this forum are not very nice, let's just put it at that... but Gox customers lost a lot of money... some of Gox's customers are early adopters and helped the Bitcoin community a lot.

This will be a law to which they must adhere. From a practical viewpoint, this call center is still complete nonsense.
