Title: ~$10 USD worth of alt coin compensation for taking a brief survey.
Post by: Miracle_Life on March 04, 2014, 04:20:08 AM
The survey is not "scientific", but your opinion can make a difference.
It will not take long, and ~40% is optional.
Your answers will have an effect on an important project with at least 3 (or more) features never seen before.

Compensation Offer
For the first 101 replies:
  • When the [ANN] thread is ready you will be registered to receive 25% to 50% more free coins than otherwise available.
  • If there is an IPO you have the option listed above or you can choose a $10 to $25 Dollar discount.
  • You could choose the offer that others pay $9.99 (for example) and get it 100% free.
Please try to be totally Honest, thank you.
Questions 4, 5, 8, and 10 might give you a small bonus, but they are optional

1) Do you currently own any amount of any alt coin?
2) ~What month/year did you obtain your first BTC or Alt?
3) Do you currently own more than 0.002 BTC?

4) (Optional)
The market appears to be flooded with new "copycat" coins. Do you personally benefit from developing/very early mining of these "dump" coins?
5) (Optional + This question can be answered by anyone regardless of your answer to #4)
If you had a choice between mining 2 coins that "will go to the moon if they ever get on Cryptsy", or 2 that are uniquely suited to change the way alt coins are created (and hopefully have a real, sustainable uptrend instead of "just a dump"), would you choose "A" (Today's current type of coins, or "B" the kind which gains value based on "quality")?
Note: Many people are seemingly addicted to the current system. Please pause and make sure your answer to #5 is honest (based on the info provided)

6) Would you consider an early investment of ~$10 to $20 in a project where your main motivation was "entertainment, adventure, education, new friends, or being part of a dramatic story" and some chance of getting wealthy (but money wasn't the main reason at first)
7) If "No" would a much lower price ($2 to $5) make a big difference in your decision?

8 ) (Optional) Any comments or ideas regarding the current alt coin universe, this survey, or anything related?
9) Do you ever consider that a "way above average" answer to #8 might lead to a good career/unexpected opportunity someday? (i.e Sometimes extra effort does get noticed, do you think about that much/ever?)
10) (Optional) Any comments or ideas regarding the info found here? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=495622.0

Quick update 3/9/2014
FYI: If you think this thread is about preparing to launch "great new coins" and we will rush to get the first one out "to raise money for other projects", then you were not paying close attention to the survey.

CoinPayments.net is shutting down (at least for a while)

From their site:
The shutdown will happen in 3 stages:

We will stop accepting new user registrations effective immediately.
We will stop processing new transactions at 11:59:59 PM EST on March 24, 2014 (transactions already in progress at that time will be completed).
The website will otherwise remain operational until 11:59:59 PM EST on March 31st, 2014 when it will be shut down.

I was planning to join and they shut the door:
1) Does anyone know of a functional site (up and running w/ a good reputation) that allows people to easily accept a (medium to) long list of alt coins?
2a) Does anyone have a CoinPayments.net account which they are not using, and are willing to give away?
2b) After a quick read of their terms, I didn't see anything against transferring an account to someone else.
2c) This will help with accepting payments (until the 24th) and start paying you for the survey ASAP.

If you have one which you are not using please PM me w/ the login details, thank you.

2) Got my first BTC via a tip on Reddit in 2010
3) Yes

4) Yes, do mine new coins; hold about 1/2 if its interesting, sell the rest.
5) Quality and innovation are more important; will be less likely to sell such coins after mining.
6) Yes, this is a hobby for me and its more important to see crytos succeed in general and gain wider acceptance. So I do support good dev teams and communities.
7)
8 ) Scrypt altcoins will more or less die when the scrypt ASICs come online similar to what happened with SHA altcoins
9) Life is an open road and this is a young field.
10) Looks interesting, not sure its for me.

6)No.  IPO are scam imo
7)No.  You really have to have a good reason for an IPO

8 )a coin needs transactions to have value.  Also a fractional altcoin would be good, you create coins for projects voted on, when they profit you destroy the coins and the extra is inflation that is split
9)maybe

8 )If you make a new alt coin with a new type of algorithm the program to mine them must be clearly set up and have guides how to use it, It is important to have lots of pools for the new coin so make sure you contact all the current pool owners to get there interests, you must not rush the launch make sure everything is working fine, maintain integrity throughout the updates, running and launch of the coin. try get your coin preregistered on an exchange even if it costs you 1btc but make sure the exchange is trusted and has a good volume. ensure you have a big Dev team, many hands make light work and a good coin. Get involved in a charity event to raise awareness of the coin, ensure a multilingual Dev team that can inform the rest of the world, russian, chinese, spanish are important investors.

3) Yes (0.002 is very small)

4) Sometimes I try, but I try to be an early adopter for coins that are actually worthwile
5) Definately B, Something worthwile in an altcoin also prevents a lot of panick-sells from everyone, which I find to be really beneficial

6) If it offers something more than just an empty promise then yes
7) -

8 ) I believe the current infrastructure for altcoins can not be sustained. In some time (months?) we will need to have some revolution that will help the cryptocurrency along.
While new coins like DRK or VRT offer something new and are therefore interesting, they don`t seem to add anything to the notion that Bitcoin is. I would like to see an altcoin that would
be easier and more accessable for the mainstream media/society (yes, more mainstream than bitcoin). This due to the revolution that bitcoin provides not biding with most people and their understanding of the     concept of money. Therefore I`d like to see an altcoin that has some intrinsic association with real world commodities or even with real world 'tokens' that represent it.
9)
10) seems a really vague post with a lot of empty promises, establishment upfront is something I value a great deal. So trying to 'change the internet' in such a way doesnt seem to work.

Okay, I'll bite.

1) Do you currently own any amount of any alt coin?

Yes, a lot of Reddcoin and a small haunch of ixCoin.

2) ~What month/year did you obtain your first BTC or Alt?

December 2013.

3) Do you currently own more than 0.002 BTC?

Yes.

4) (Optional)
The market appears to be flooded with new "copycat" coins. Do you personally benefit from developing/very early mining of these "dump" coins?

No. I'm not part of any launch team and I don't mine. Tech-wise, I'm more interested in figuring out, in my way, how the nuts and bolts of the altcoins work. If I get involved in an altcoin, I buy in with BTC.

Honestly? My reflexes are too durn slow for playing the A game with any success and I'm too inflexible as well. I found that out while day-trading many moons ago. Having learned my lesson in this vein, I'd go with "B" if only because I lack the mental nimbleness to play the A game with any real skill.

6) Would you consider an early investment of ~$10 to $20 in a project where your main motivation was "entertainment, adventure, education, new friends, or being part of a dramatic story" and some chance of getting wealthy (but money wasn't the main reason at first)

I'd have to see more details on the project first.

7) If "No" would a much lower price ($2 to $5) make a big difference in your decision?

I didn't put "No" to the prior question, but the $10-$20 level is low enough to not make a difference with regard to lowering the minimum.

8 ) (Optional) Any comments or ideas regarding the current alt coin universe, this survey, or anything related?

The alt scene, at this time, has tired out. There's a lot of rancor and the recent alt-coin "bubble" has deflated. It remains to be seen whether it inflates again; I suspect it will.

9) Do you ever consider that a "way above average" answer to #8 might lead to a good career/unexpected opportunity someday? (i.e Sometimes extra effort does get noticed, do you think about that much/ever?)

Yes, I have, but I believe that the real career opportunities will come only to good devs, proven community and ecosystem builders and skilled traders. It's only a matter of time before "I did X for cybercoin Y, which resulted in $Z value added" appears on people's resumes.

10) (Optional) Any comments or ideas regarding the info found here? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=495622.0

It offers what is essentially a mutual self-help group. As such, it targets the kind of people who buy self-help books. Right now, altcoins are in the "Wild West" phase and that's not the best time to offer a self-help group. Its most valuable prospects, at this time, would be likely to say, "Neat idea, but I'm too busy." That said, it might be ahead of its time...but it'll be subject to the same traps that all self-help groups either fall into or have to dodge around: devolving into a rest-club / hiring-hall type of feel-good mutual admiration society.

---------

I hope this answers your questions  :)

1) Yes. Plenty of those.
2) Dec. 2012
3) Yes.

4) Yeah, some of them are very profitable.
5) 'B' of course. If the coin is really innovative, the price will increase anyway. Having another coin which you can trust in addition to Bitcoin and Litecoin would be great. Not to mention that you can actually make some analysis based on the quality of the coin to guess if the price will go up, unlike shitcoins which go to the moon only with a good marketing campaign only to be dumped after.

6) Depends on what "entertainment" in this case means. Those are called CryptoCurrencies for a reason. I don't see any way how a currency can be funny. It's fun mostly because it's a gold rush. Therefore if it's not profitable, it's not fun. So, my answer is NO.
7) No. Only if you can create something really innovative. Otherwise, IPOs are out of question.

8 ) IPOs, premines and blatant lies should not be tolerated.
9) A post on the forum leading to great career? I am not a lunatic, no.
10) Looks like you are trying to create a sect of hippies and take money as entrance fee. Do whatever you want, but right now it looks like you are trying to scam people for a few BTC by promising them an eternal happiness in the dreamland full of love and pink ponies.

Dunno what you are smoking, but if it's not a scam, good luck to you in all your endevours.

If I saw potential in the coin, partially to see it grow but more about the money.

7) If "No" would a much lower price ($2 to $5) make a big difference in your decision?

8 ) (Optional) Any comments or ideas regarding the current alt coin universe, this survey, or anything related?
BTC & LTC taking the lions share, we need other altcoins to take mainstream adoption!

9) Do you ever consider that a "way above average" answer to #8 might lead to a good career/unexpected opportunity someday? (i.e Sometimes extra effort does get noticed, do you think about that much/ever?)
You might be asked to be a financial consultant, which more people will
want as crypto currency becomes more of a mainstream thing.
10) (Optional) Any comments or ideas regarding the info found here? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=495622.0

Post by: UtCollector on March 04, 2014, 05:27:55 PM

3) Yes.

4) I keep all of my coins. So I can't tell whether or not I benefit, or if I'll benefit in the future.

1) Yes.
2) ~ 1/2013
3) No

4) No -- haven't done either
5) Well, with that phrasing, I think I will choose "B"!

6) Again, based on the phrasing -- yes! And who wouldn't?
7)

8 ) This survey is very clever. The end of the easy alt stuff is near and you sense that. You are providing an escape hatch for the fearful, or soon to be.
9) Also very clever. There is now a way to be better and to rightly "deserve".
10) It's almost too over the top, with the picture and words bordering on the purposefully cliché. The feel good rhetoric is also layered on thick. Still, enough of a nod to the libertarians, who are a big portion of alt coin's populations, to attract them, but not too much to repel others. It's all so vague that you appear to be mocking some of the very coins currently in existence. One is not sure if the site is satire or real.

1) Yes, but only recently due to my participation in DevToMe
2) June 2012
3) Yes, but not nearly as much as I should, given my adoption date above.

4) No I do not
5) I've never been in that position so I can't really answer that with any certainty. If I had the hardware to mine with, and saw that immediate profits were more from mining the younger coins, I would probably mine those, and use the proceeds to buy the alts I really believe in.

6) Yes, depending on the specifics I might consider such an investment.
7) This would increase my likelihood of investing, yes.

8) I feel that now is prime time for an alt-coin to potentially usurp Bitcoin if it's ever going to happen. Bitcoin is vulnerable in the public mind from the recent Gox fiasco scenario. Based on all these questions, I'd say that this survey seems related to a new coin that somebody might be planning. Guessing it implements a new mining process (judging from question 5), or might be proof of stake (judging from questions 6 and 7). If it could also implement some kind of killer app (something else gleamed from question 6) it could potentially do really well in this kind of climate.
9) No, I would not think this possible. In fact, I would be incredibly leery that it might be some kind of scam, if I were approached this way. It would also deter me from being interested in the investment from questions 6 and 7, if the person presenting it were trying to link it to a potential career opportunity. It's just a huge red flag. Things that sound too good to be true usually are.
10) Sounds too good to be true, to be honest. I need more convincing.

Ok, here it goes...

1) Yes, a large range of coins- moderate holdings.
2) March, 2013.
3) Yes.
4) No!
5) B- because I am a holder, not a trader or miner. I want to be a user of coins, and I want crypto to be part of broader society in it's use. Selfishness breeds distrust and short-lived success.
6) Yes, the best cryptos offer this.
7) No
8) I have many hopes, but trust is an issue that is the most important in crypto development. I am an artist and writer- not a coder, developer or businessman, and it pains me that I am constantly having to put trust in the intentions of faceless cryptos. I believe the best thing that a new coin can do, is be transparent with the people behind it. Hopefully this survey is a marker of good intention, rather than just the premise of something 'more'.
9) In any endevour, making an effort demonstrates a sense of caring- I read Bitcointalk all the time, and I get a sense that there are more people wanting something, than there are willing to give something. That's the wrong attitude. All I can give crypto is being an informed user and spending time learning and using the protocols, with the hope that this is something that I can pass onto my friends and family.
10) Eccentric and optimistic for sure! Intriguing. I'm not sure about the 'Big Money' goal thing, nor the future millionaires/billionaires thing- that sounds too much like a 90's self-help book. Otherwise, I'll be interested to see where this goes.

8. Tonnes. You should drop me a PM if you're interested to hear the ramblings of a chain-smoking drunk. However, I would like to highlight two points - the objectives of 9/10 alt coin devs seem to end at getting on an exchange, and development apparently consists of mainly dice games and faucets.

8 ) Many of the clonecoins are annoying and will continue to be annoying, but as I've seen, it's all part of the process. Although, the recent uptick of IPOs resulting in scams is quite unfortunate. I'm also very curious on what shakes out from this survey. I hope to see collated results that are broken down by various Bitcointalk demographics (such as member status).
9) Sure, those sort of things are always possible. Although, it's more likely that if an unexpected opportunity arises, it'll be for a nice job, not necessarily a nice career; after all, careers are built over long periods of time (i.e. years).
10) It's a different concept, but besides the link to crypto-currencies what makes it different from other types of entrepreneurial-styled pay sites? In fact, seeing that you are trying to work something where you can get receive discounts on coins from whales alongside the IPO type of structure makes it seem a slight bit suspicious.

8 ) I want to see another coin like GPUCoin but with improvements made to the business model.

Investors would invest in the company XCoin.
All investments would go to purchasing wholesale goods.
Investors would each get a lump sum of XCoins equal to the wholesale cost of the goods
The goods are sold at competitive prices, but the only way to buy them is with XCoins.
People can purchase XCoins from investors or mine them.
The proceeds, including the majority of profits, are used to purchase more equipment at wholesale price - and the cycle repeats.
A small portion of profits is split up and sent to investor's wallets. (they have special stake wallets)

What would happen is as follows:  If the goods are in high demand then customers will push the price of XCoin up trying to get a good deal.  The price should end up around what one can get at EBay or other auction houses.
Not only this - but money will constantly be injected into the market since people have to buy XCoins to get that good deal.

The price would stabalize, the market would have liquidity since customers have to purchase XCoin and in turn XCoin has to be converted back to bitcoin to purchase the goods.
Investors would be able to sell of their initial pile of coins and make profit since they got them at wholesale costs.  Also investors would profit for the rest of the lifecycle of the company with their stake.
The supply would grow as most profits are put back into buying more equipment.  The coin would become huge.

9) Yes.  It is possible. (not my answer, but maybe someone else) It is unlikely.  It takes action, not just words, to get an idea going.

1) A lot of very small amounts from trying out various coins, and mining on multipools. I trade most coins instantly for BTC though.
2) In march 2012 I mined BTC/LTC for a few weeks, but was very busy with university so lost interest. Started again in december 2013.
3) Yes

4) I don't have enough time to actively do research, and invest/mine very new pump'n'dump coins. I benefit in small ways from them by mining in multipools that adopt these coins fairly early.
5) As I am interested in the internal workings of crypto-currencies in general, I like the quality-coins (B) more as they may have an impact on the future. I even spent some time thinking about how to improve them myself. I see mining more as a hobby instead of a way to make money. Being honest however, for mining I just pick the most profitable coin. Sadly, those are pump'n'dump coins (A) most of the time. I think this choice is based on me thinking that my puny hashrate won't make a difference.

6) Yes, definitely
7) For the motivations mentioned, I would even pay a higher price. After all, that's what life's about, no?

8) I think alt coins have a positive influence on crypto-currency. A lot are copy/paste, but they raise questions and sometimes deal with problems. Eventually this will lead to improvements.
9) Yes, I think people that put a lot of effort in their job or elsewhere will eventually get noticed, and rewarded for it. Karma is a good way to motive yourself :)
10) Very sceptical about it. If what you say is honest and can be performed, it's a very nice dream/thought/idea. I think you have to provide some more info and certainty however to attract people in a forum filled with scammers.

2) December 2011

3) Yes

4) Yes, however I don't believe the dumping is related to the technology

5) I'm more interested in mining unique coins, actually I'm offering a number of 0.1 BTC bounties for developers to help me with my own ideas for a unique coin.

6) Of course, although I don't really measure things in Fiat, risking 0.002 BTC on a new coin is something I've done countless times already, and I have no regrets.

7) N/A

8 ) The current "alt coin universe" has lots of imagination put into the marketing, but not much imagination put into the code. I'd like to see more coins that can be used for alternative purposes, like SiaCoin. SiaCoin is still in development but aims to be a coin to allow users to pay for cloud storage of large files or to sell their storage space to other users of SiaCoin. You can't find more info here.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhZXj48tUao

Also I would like to develop my own coin that has PoS as the main way of generating coins, and a supply limited only by time, and not by a specific number of coins.

The grammar in question 6 makes the question difficult to answer if you would consider $10 for entertainment, but not for one of the other values, or vice versa. Grammatical ambiguity aside I understood the gist of the question and hopefully you still like my answers. Grammar Nazi's often shoot themselves in the foot anyway

9) I would like consider my "way above average" answer could lead to an unexpected opportunity. I do understand that this may just be the Dunning Kruger effect though. Despite my belief that my answer is "way above average", it's the belief of others that will decide. Objectivity is what others see ;)

10) Setting a clear goal to make over $10,000,000 USD in the next 5 to 8 years sounds good, but I'd rather set my goals in BTC as I don't think $10,000,000 USD will be able to buy toilet paper in 8 years time :) I'll aim for 10,000 BTC and expect it will be worth more by the time I get there.

I'm not sure I fully understand what I've been a part of here, but I'm excited to find out. The future is bright  :D

9)no not really

3 )  Yes!

4 )  I'm always late! I try to guess the next coin that will go up but I always end up loosing (i bought KARM at 13 satoshies and now it's 1!)
5 )  B (I'm trying to get AUR and FATE right now, because they are different, and as much as I've used cryptys they have very slow deposits so I never made a profit from trying to sell something there as I respect the rule that says don't keep your coins in an online wallet)

6 )  Yes! it could even go up to 30$ in my case
7 )  If I'm willing to invest up to 30$ then 2-5$ wouldn't be a problem

8 )  If you plan to make an altcoin that you wish to have a decent price don't make 900.000.000.000 coins in it! Stay around 20-30 mil coins range! And first of all the coin should have a purpose and it should be innovative! Also a good thing is no pre-mine!
9 )  No, but after I've read question number 9 I've wrote more at my answer at question number 8
10 ) I will not send BTC to that address before having some assurance that you will actually do something! And tell us how much you will earn from us! For example if you say I will earn 2 BTC/year if I have 300 members with 1 year subscription, also note that if you take your commission upfront we have no guarantee that you will be here for more than a few months!

1) Yes
2) heard very early about BTC but no one calced with that result.. so I got late to LTC in 2013
3) Yes

4) Sometimes, when a coin gets a good pump by a willing man/group a lot of ppl can benefit.
5) That sounds like advertising to me because quality is such a thing, but for sure.. the second, B! Very rough question, when quality is not a problem of costs in that world...

6) If it can finance me traveling or repairs for sure, in terms of "adventure" or whatever generating costs.
7) Is psychological much more easily to accept then >20$, if the investment is necessary to get a "stake" or what else, people with a low aviable amount of dollars per day or less then one $ will be penalized for not lifing in the right place..

8 ) What you wanna hear? Its not easy to put good knowledge in an part of a Forum´s message to let ppl understand their intentions and beliefs, a lot more if they told already dozens of ppl their intentions about crypto. But there are meanings, for sure, that can´t get packed into a few words.
Its a risk and a chance, but humanity has different development steps to go through, his challenges for now are to make an better and more fair overlayer then the current fiat currencies are.
Only when the currencies will change and the way we work with them, the "civilized" societies will change and speeding up our technological and mental progress. And that without debts in our sense of meaning...
If the whole humanity gets access to space and its ressources, they will laugh about that people on earth have given a clumb of metal more value then a mathematical calculation. not even to mention fiat papermoney...

9) If the world that we know change in our lifetime in this direction, then yes. But the now goes after degrees and references, curriculum vitae´s and other stuff, but for sure, for doing a job you need an qualification in whatever you do. Besides of that there are far to less ethical jobs out there, but what would be our world today with ethics.
In a good connected world I can imagine that people might remember the said in a Forum, like we remember notices from creators out of books. Such thing affects ppl in decades and centuries, so I don´t see that as a personal advert for a job! ;) Also because the meaning of every word changes for every generation in every place, king&war or money doesn´t mean the same for us what it may be meant to our grants...
10) Sounds a bit like a dream, but dreams are there to gone true or what. If you and the community are able to put that in a well organized platform, it may happen. But because were in Crypto I don´t like the," hey throw money at me and it will happen a wonder" slipslop, its sounds a bit like that.
At all its all to unclear written to take that serious..I don´t see a need to pay a fee to register myself to be able to tell someone about something I also could have done so...Drives us only down to old shemes.
But I will look what it will become, a biased meaning is not justified, but how far has our world come if people must constant check if its possible to trust...?

4) Not usually
5) I dont see A or B as being exclusive categories but I choose B. If an alt offers innovation, and has committed devs and support it likely will "go to the moon" just not as fast as a P&D coin.
6) No
7) Probably not. I've got enough entertainment, etc. in my life.
8) I mainly use alts to stay up on the latest innovation in cryptos and for investment/trading. If a new coin is related to a game or social networking or something, I will trade it, but I don't have time for more gaming or social networking etc.
9) yes I now considered that ;)
10) A lot of people involved with cryptos are wary of scams. I wonder what it will look like in practice and worry it might feel to ponzy-like depending on how it's done.

Title: Update
Post by: Miracle_Life on March 09, 2014, 09:23:36 PM
