Title: "Pay Less. Pay BitCoin" - marketing idea for small businesses?
Post by: CCCMikey on March 27, 2011, 07:36:59 AM
Hi :)

One of the big white good retailers in Australia uses the slogan "Pay Less. Pay Cash!" as a means of encouraging sales.

Since BitCoins are analogous to cash in many ways, perhaps we small businesses can adopt a similar system on our customer invoices as a way to encourage people to use this currency.

I'm considering doing this for my own business since I wrote the accounting software I use and it's only 30 mins work to add it.

The catch 22 at the moment is that there are no AUD to BTC services in Australia that I know of which defeats the purpose somewhat.  (I'm still considering setting one up like BritCoin, but not sure how to approach that yet due to potential legal issues, plus someone might beat me to it!)

Anyway, what do you think?

Cheers, Mike.

Did you read the whirlpool forum replies ? :)

Its no wonder there are no aussie exchanges yet. Although someones mum  rang up asking about it a few weeks ago.

Did I read them? I started them! hehe.

I'm starting to quiz my relevant bodies (bank, accountant, forum members, etc) to see if I can actually run an exchange legally since no one else seems to want to and I already have most of the requisite skills and hardware. No promises yet 'tho.

Without an exchanger, it's almost pointless me trying to do anything in Aus other than hoard coins and hide from the Coin Bird.

It would be nice if this forum displayed a flag for the nationality of the poster. And if they'd damn well get that version 0.3.20 that's stuck in the news section ;-)  This forum feels like it's still straight out of the packet with that there shouting 'hey I'm an old version. Hack me!'

Youd be surprised how many Aussies are using bitcoins. Now we need a miner here and it would be sweet :)

My local booze store charges less for cash transactions than credit/debit, which always struck me as somewhat odd since I thought that sort of thing was very much against the TOS of the various credit card agencies.  Much like the "minimum of $xxx.xx total for card transactions" signs which I know are against the TOS.

Nevertheless, I could easily see the same thing happening here, unless of course we get to the point that transaction fees become required to be accepted into a block in any reasonable amount of time.  Sadly I think we're already headed that way, with fee-less transactions already experiencing delays.

EDIT:  for clarification, I am in the US and am talking of the policies within the country
