Title: How long will this take?
Post by: Mister11 on September 03, 2018, 01:50:04 PM
I sent this transaction through Cryptopia and never had a situation where its been 2 hours+ with 0 confirmations: https://live.blockcypher.com/btc/tx/eb729f004143ad3a03288163ba957b1a8bcfb7c65c804a5da646a040c2a6594d/

Any insight would be appreciated.

Sometimes it takes even a day. Don't worry, probably the servers are a bit busy but it will go through.

Wow you really chintzed out on the fees - <4 Sats/B is pretty low which is probably why it took 106 minutes.

Use this for an estimate of fees if you need a tx to go through quickly: https://bitcoinfees.earn.com/

15 to 16 sats/B would have probably included your tx in the very next block.

It may depend on your fee that you did agree on when doing the transaction. I always set up a medium fee and the transfer did not take more than 1 to 2 hours.

Dude.  His transaction only took 106 minutes which is 1 hour 46 minutes.  He didn't need a medium fee for that.
You should always check to see an approximation of the fee required if you are impatient or in a hurry for the transaction to confirm.

I agree too that the speed can be a factor which is usually dependent on the fee charged for the transaction , maybe you don't have enough balance and it picked on a very low fee. It is likely not a saver issue. I have witnessed it before but wasn't sending to an exchange so I was sure my coins won't be lost, yours too won't, just be patient.

Well that was value for money.  ;D  Paying $0.05157 to transfer $28 820 anywhere in the world is very cheap. I bet you

MoneyGram / Western Union / Banks will not be cheaper than that.  8) http://prntscr.com/kq43fk  I see you already have 6

confirmations, so this is not an issue anymore. Please close this thread.  ;D

that website is terrible for fee estimation. they basically predict the best fee then add a percentage to it so they tell you a higher fee so that if you checked their site and chose a fee you would be 100% among the high paying fees (high priority). but that will also increase the competitive fee and that is not good for the network!

suggest either one of these two:
https://coinb.in/#fees
https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#0,24h
they are better. the first one is even fun to use, people may learn a thing or two about transactions and how the size thing works.

I don't think it's as bad as you make it out to be.  Anyway, OP seemed worried about the length of time it took for his tx to go through and the fee he included was ~3.7 Sats/B
The first site on your list is saying 3 Sats/B for a tx... how is this gonna help him?!  That might be the minimum possible fee to have your tx included sometime today but it is not good enough to have it included in the next block is it?

This worries me too, the problem of long bitcoin transactions that slow down the whole system. Until this issue is not resolved, bitcoin will never replace fiat. In this matter some altcoins have advantages.
