Post by: xcaret on September 05, 2018, 08:42:24 PM
I got this Ledger a few weeks ago and just got the " Ledger Manager " downloaded , maybe more came with it .

It opened and showed loads of cryto currency , I clicked on " bitcoin" and nothing else .

I have nothing to put in at the moment , but Is Ledger  manager all I need to download onto my pc?

Yes,Ledger Manager is the native desktop app of your Ledger Nano S,it's all what you need to use it.If you want to store Bitcoin on your Ledger,Plug in your Nano S and navigate to "Manager" and install Bitcoin app, once it's installed you should see Bitcoin logo in your Nano screen. That's it,you can now create an account and receive/send Bitcoins,it's pretty much the same process for all other cryptocurrencies.

Edit:Confused between Ledger Manager and Ledger Live, sorry for the mistake   ;D

Ledger Manager is not the native desktop app.
Ledger Manager is the old Chrome based app, which is going to be discontinued soon.

You have to download the new Ledger Live App, which is now more safer.

You can read more about it here.

Ledger LIVE is the only app you need for your wallet.

Ledger Manager is just an interface to manage the various Chrome based Apps. You have to download one for each coin you use. This app is going to be discontinued, as I said.
Ledger Nano team recommend the use of Ledger Live.

As bitmover already pointed out, Ledger Live (https://www.ledger.com/pages/ledger-live) is the up-to-date software. NOT the Ledger Manager or other chrome applications.

Ledger has some detailed guides on how to get started with your nano s.
You might want to check this out: https://support.ledgerwallet.com/hc/en-us/articles/360006395233 (https://support.ledgerwallet.com/hc/en-us/articles/360006395233)
This guides you through the initialization process.

Here is a small article about how to install ledger live: https://support.ledgerwallet.com/hc/en-us/articles/360006395553-Download-and-install-Ledger-Live (https://support.ledgerwallet.com/hc/en-us/articles/360006395553-Download-and-install-Ledger-Live)

Make sure you have a proper backup of your 24 word seed. This seed is the key to all of your coins stored on the ledger.
Do NOT have a digital copy of the words on your PC. Keep them offline and secured.
