Title: New phishing email MEW
Post by: khufuking on September 06, 2018, 07:59:51 PM
Once in a while a new phishing email spread trying to scam new Ethereum users and sometimes even old once. Today I have received one of those, it has been long since the last time I got one so I thought I post it here to give a warning to new users and also because the email I got did not go to junk mail, so someone might really fall in this trap. First of all please flag the email if you received one. Here is how the email looks like.

It will have a title like ( My Ethereumwallet security update) something along this line. So please do not fall into this trap and stay safe.  :)

Fortunately, I'm not receiving such email(s). The person or people behind this did all the possible way to scam people. Plenty of Brand new accounts posted here in Bitcointalk the same message with the Phishing link, others say they received the same on Telegram, and now on email.

See the discussion here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5016305

Stay vigilant!

A friend of mine once fell victim of this scam and that was how he lost his coins. I have received similar mails like this too. Sometimes, it comes from some of the scam airdrop forms we fill. That is why i have stopped filling airdrop forms.

Thank you for providing information. I will be careful to open any site because there are many hackers that happened this year. never give your private key.

Many people have become victim of those scammers, especially the new ones who do not have spent much time in crypto market and are unaware of such scams.

People, never ever login into any of your wallet unless you are 100% sure that the URL of the page is correct. Or better to bookmark your wallet links so that you never open any wrong page and make a mistake.

Better to access MEW with metamask than using private key everywhere.

Thanks for the information
I did get the email but I deleted it immediately because I was sure I did not register any email with Myetherwallet

Others must remember too
No email was registered with Myetherwallet
Don’t fall for the cheap scams
Good luck

LOL. A stupid way to hack other people wallet. LOL. I don't know if there is anyone fell into this trap or not but I don't think it's too difficult to realize that this is just a phising email cause until now after months using MEW I still don't receive any email from MEW. LOL. Anyway, thank you for sharing ;)

Many ways hackers do this year are phishing sites, phishing emails and others. I think the main thing is not giving private keys because that is the most important thing from our wallet.

wow ...
only last night I received the e-mail the exact same statement that we had to update our wallet manually, I had time to believe but I thought again why should it be manual, it was not possible to update it automatically why now it should be manual.
finally I didn't do anything because in my heart I was doubtful.
Thank you for the information you provided, this made my heart even stronger to leave the e-mail, hopefully no one was caught in the trap of the bastards.

In the period of using Myetherwallet.com I already encountered many phishing sites that looks like the website itself and most of them can't be distinguished as a phishing site unless you are looking at the link in your browser. So always Check the URL. Check the URL again.

Yes
I want to agree with that the link is replaced on the url as soon as you click on it
Which is why we must be extra vigilant and ensure we avoid every emails regarding Myetherwallet or ImToken app

Let’s stay safe and never compromise our account or privacy

I am very confused because mew does not include an email address when making a wallet. but why hackers send emails to users. crypto users should be smarter to avoid cases like this.

I'm sure it's not only the method that has been used by the scammer, i have seen yesterday there was a scammer that try to spread the fake site MEW on this forum and i have reported him as a suspicious link. I believe that was another scam or phishing site that interested to steal your money. I never try to open any suspicious email in my inbox. It's too risky for me personally.

I guess the hyperlink of the mail the OP received which is labeled MyEtherWallet.com is replaced with a phishing-website?
Yeah that's what is happening on this forum, and some are getting similar emails, read the OP.

By the way, those accounts who are posting phising links are getting nuked almost instantaneously.

Wow from that email almost like official Myetherwallet, That why maybe so many newbie get phising. That why we must always becarefull if receive email. Using all security like bookmark, and always check the url, make sure not phising URL. Or you can also using metamask i think that's better than MEW

I never received such an email from those phishers, its because I'm only picky what to register with my email.

This is a very informative post to those that are using MEW most often, you have to be careful with such emails that you are receiving. And the first thing that you have to do is not to click the link that they are giving and don't respond to them but report it to the community just like what OP did.

he himself recently received a similar letter and for a second even believed in its authenticity. And then I wondered where they got my mail from?) And some people come across this trick, while I'm still wondering how they create spam coins with advertising sites and projects) to me and my friend came coins with the names of sites not understandable and the other coin had a whole proposal with the advertisement of the project)

always in MeW I go through the tabs that would not run into a phishing. I received such a letter a couple of months ago and then an acquaintance was hacked into the air, and at the same time he said that he never shined his key. but I'm sure that he fell for this kind of spam

Thank you so much for the awareness. I never received such emails.
Everyone should be cautious of such scam activity, any further steps should be taken by checking official updates in the official social channel.
Also, users have nothing to do with MyEtherWallet updates, that's the thing the dev team will do. Just never try to disclose your private key, stay safe forever.

EMAIL like this is often included in our e-mail, so we have to be careful and usually they will warn us to update, and finally our MEW will be controlled. MEW is still safe until now unless we are not careful with our private keys to easily enter phishing sites

Thank you for the warning of new fraud, I just saw it on the poster you made. It's strange for the integration of MEW applications with e-mail, so we already know this is a form of fraud via e-mail
