Title: does money influence the health of a person
Post by: tracymik on September 15, 2018, 12:33:49 PM
It is said that the rich are more likely to be more healthy than the poor. Many books and articles have said a similar thing about this but i really do not see the connection between money or financial status and health.
I have seen rich people becoming less healthy than the poor and vice versa. Is it really true that there is a relationship between financial status and health of a person. I want your ideas about this supposed relationship.

Yes money has influence on the health of a person. I will like to support my point of view with these four factors;
1.   Materialist factors: for example, money buys health-promoting goods and the ability to engage in a social life in ways that enable people to be healthy;
2.   Psychosocial factors: for example, the stress of not having enough money may affect health;
3.   Behavioral factors: people living in disadvantaged circumstances may be more likely to have unhealthy behaviors;
4.   Being in poor health may affect education and employment opportunities in ways that affect subsequent health.
As a matter of fact bible also confirms it that money answereth all things.

sure, money can really influence the health of a person. it will be easy for a person to afford certain medical services like dialysis, check ups in any part of the body as compared to a poor person who is even struggling of getting money to feed himself/herself. According to World Health Organization, the financial status of a person can influence his or her health.

From my perspective it does not influence health of a person base on their wealth. There's a saying health is wealth because health is something you take care for yourself. (e.i: if a wealthy man start his journey to use illegal drugs he can do so as he pleases vice-versa to the opposite man)

Yes, money does influence the health of a person where poor cannot afford quality in medical health and consumer products as rich people.

A person will only need quality and expensive medicine if that person is careless from the start of his 20's, and being unable to feed yourself is also your responsibility having said that albeit a person is poor that he just can't put food on the table surely that is completely different aspects of life.

Yes, If you have money and you used it to take care of yourself it will definitely influence your health. For example going to the gym, eating the right food, taking vitamins. Those kinds of things only money could buy.

I believe the correlation between wealth and health is direct: the more money you have, the more healthy you are.
Medical service is expensive, as well as, let`s say, health maintaining goods: gyms, vitamins, quality food. People with less income have very limited access to it.
Moreover, rich people can afford living in large houses in the countryside, where pollution is far less acute than in the city itself.

The sad reality is yes, money definitely affects health. But this rule is not absolute. In terms of diseases that are infectious, communication or simply treatable in nature, having money will cure you. However, there are some illness or situations where in no amount of money will save you.

I think it differs according to individuals. If health and fitness is on the top on a person's priorities list  then this wouldn't be a  factor.

Depends on a person. Of course, if you have money, you can better manage your health. But there are people who, because of a large amount of money, on the contrary spoil their health with harmful excesses.

Hi, I think rich people have worse health due to more nervous work or doing business.
Yet, nowadays, most of the rich people live to see the elder age. Except those, of course, that ruin their life with alcohol and drugs. But even those can afford pretty expensive healthcare, should they need it.

I believe that there is a connection, both for physical and mental health. If you have the money, you have a whole range of options available to assist you - if you have a cough, you can buy the best medicine available, if you break your leg you can go to the hospital and not worry about not being able to afford the medical bills or if you are depressed, you can go and see a specialist to obtain the best therapy available. Not, this DOES NOT mean that rich people are necessarily happier or more content, which is also linked to health, as some of the poorest people are more content with what they have instead of constantly wanting more, which some with money are guilty of. I think there are so many factors to consider, it is hard to write them all here in one post

In my opinion, people will more money tend to have better health. That is the case like 99% of the time. They have better living condition, better chance for leisure etc..

I think financial is a factor for living healthy. Having a good source of income would allow us to buy food that has the nutrients that we need. Aside from food, we can also sustain our medications, if needed, as well as buying equipment to maintain fitness. Generally, I think I would agree that money plays a role to afford a healthy lifestyle.

Once I saw a TV program where poor white people caught many fish from the sea and they said "today we will eat like rich people"

Well, the reason the rich are healthier than poor people is because they actually have money to spend on hospitals and doctors and check-ups. However, I think it heavily depends on the person's lifestyle. I agree with First77, even if a person is poor, if he lives near the sea where they can have fresh seafood everyday then I don't see how they won't be as healthy as their wealthy neighbors.

Better income might refer to a better living conditions. Yet, working all the time + stress... maybe not so much. Plus if you don't have time to do anything besides work, then you may have all the wealth in the world but what are you gonna do with it really?

I agree with the last post. Unless you're so rich and you don't have to work your butt off, then living in stress is not a good condition.

Pretty much this. It increases the quality of life and comfort, this, in turn, means a healthier life on average. Of course, other factors also play into it but even getting a treatment for a disease is easier when you have more money.

Just like money doesn't necessarily buy you happiness that same is true when it comes to one's health. Money cannot guarantee you your health. All money can do is buy you time. The more money you have the more time can you free up to spend on pursuing the things that are most important to you. If you can free up enough time to pursue a healthy lifestyle you can stack the deck in your favour.

In 21st century money influence health a lot, because in order to be healthy you need to pass a lot of medical test, because often people lack in vitamins, as vitamin D, that is really important to your overall health. All the tests cost money. Also, organic food, that is a best fuel for our bodies, is more expensive than the normal, fake one.

Everything depends on what the money is directed to. Everyone knows that proper nutrition is more expensive, so if the money is directed to healthy food, then such a person will be more healthy.

Of course, it`s obvious there is direct influence.
With money you can afford quality food, quality healthcare and ecology (living in the countryside far from industrial facilities). Basically it relates to middle class of any modern society, these people also have to spend far less time working to make their living than people from lower classes - thus they can devote this time to their health.

yes wealth can influence the health. you know when they say laughter is the best medicine?

well you can't laugh at all if you have to worry about what sort of food to prepare for tomorrow if there is nothing to prepare. you'd be worrying about everything soon including the health of your kids and their studies and so on. you'd end up selling your kidneys and eventually be dead.

People who have money have an opportunity to buy expensive and healthy food, buy good medicine and pay for professional doctors. All these things are bought with money and a person feels better, than the one who doesn't have it.

I feel that it can be connected because those who can't afford food that is rich with healthy foods like fruits that are expensive is really needed of our body which they cannot afford to buy. Like me, I can't afford to buy fruits everyday because of expenses especially our daily needs, we must consider also good fruits and vegetables in our body not only meats or just delicious foods. Rich people are more healthier and I agree with that.

Theoretically, yes. Wealthy people are more likely to be healthy, because they have money for healthy products, rest and medicine. But in fact, not all rich people lead a healthy lifestyle. Many of them, on the contrary, overly indulge themselves with excesses. This makes their health worse. Poor people can live healthier rich. In the end, it all depends on the desire of the person.

I would say money can be good as it can be bad for your health, good cause you can live a better life and pay for better health services. Bad (mentally) because you never know who is a good friend, who is with you for personal interests, worrying too much about your possessions, anxious about your future taking care of your finances. I've seen rich people who sell everything and live in the woods.

Definitely money can influence the health of a person because if you have money you can buy all the foods you want to eat, that is why money can influence a persons healthy lifestyle. Those people who are rich are the ones who are healthy the most , because they have abundant foods to eat not just like ooor people who lacks foods to eat to maintain a healthy living.

It's more about the quality of life. If you have access to health services and good nutrition in a less stressful environment then you wouldn't need a lot of money but for the people living in big cities, it's almost mandatory to have a decent salary to have a healthy life.

True! Look at the people from the third world country, Majority of the malnourished people came from a very poor community.
