Title: Demoted newbies, please stop crying.
Post by: TBboys on September 17, 2018, 08:52:49 AM
Think carefully, what is the reason for implementing the merit system?

It is to fight with spams, but now, has this battle been won? In all fairness, the outcome of this battle is far from meeting its expectations. When we browse the forum, we can always see a lot of meaningless posts in any section and this posts were born very fast, often when we read a topic over and want to read the next topic, we will find that the next topic can't be found. when we try to find the next topic, it has been squeezed into Page 2, even after page 3.The fact is that there are not so many people in the real reply, but because a large number of jr.member are completing their signature bounty missions. When you check posting history of these accounts, you will see that many accounts have more than 100 active, but 99% of the posts are airdrop proofs or social media links, are there any posts in these posts that communicate with others? No, none of them.Because these accounts are only for bounty/airdrops, they have no soul.

Therefore, they are not worthy of the benefits of bounty/airdrops. To some extent, bounty/airdrops are a boon to the BTT Forum for qualified members. So, for members who really love the forum, it is not difficult to get a merits, and those accounts that are crying, if you don't want to leave the forum, please stop crying, improve the quality of your posts from now on.

Maybe it is not difficult for you to earn merit/s, but for some people whose native language is not English getting even a single merit is an uphill climb.

and those accounts that are crying, if you don't want to leave the forum, please stop crying, improve the quality of your posts from now on.

This is a normal reaction to a change unless you are a bot, but everything will stabilize as time passes by just like the implementation of the merit system.

well it was unexpected to happen and many people for sure are affected into this big changes and i think this is very unfair for everyone who is new into forum who just started this year we all know that last was implemented the new rules of merit and now it is really unfair for us who just joined recently and the fact that whatever we posted a good post it is still didn't recognize and didn't get merit at all and so now they implement new rules again i hope that itll be fair for everyone to get merit those who sre really posting with sense i am not against with the new rules but please consider those people who are really working in it i hope that lets all be fair not only for those who joined long after but also for those recently and planning to understand how the crypto works and to some bounty participant.

As far as I know, more than 30% of the accounts in jr.member may be robots, because I have seen some accounts, all of their posts are replied to in a thread, and some accounts have all the posts are advertising content. I seriously doubt that these are robot accounts.

For real bounty participants, I think this will be more fair. A merit is not that difficult for humans, but it will be impossible for robots. Once the robot participants are excluded, the real participants will get more stakes. Isn't that good?

The new merit system will help the forum recognize the alt accounts of the senior members. And that will eliminate what the system did not do before. However, creating a new system can reduce the traffic to the forum. But people will get used to it and accept it.

This situation will be at least as annoying as the spam that occurred after the introduction of the merit system. The measure was long overdue and many users were asking for it. :-*

I'm calling it the "pissed off newbie invasion". I expect for a few weeks at least we'll have half a dozen threads opened addressing the new implementation, and everyone rehashing what has already been said in the main thread.

Wauw, was amazed to read this line. So you decide who's worthy of rewards now?

The Bitcointalk forum has a section for bounties and airdrops and has been massively abused by multi accounters and spam the rest of the forum for signature rewards.

I joined the forum about 6 months ago but was already involved in crypto. Have over 10K followers on LinkedIn and Twitter who apparently appreciate the content I share from the projects I choose to promote. I am not a regular poster, besides my bounty reports, but do feel that Bitcointalk.org is a platform for me, where I can find good projects to promote, help the right ICO's to succeed and build up a little portfolio for my efforts.

You make it sound like all rewards are only for high ranked, first adopters who joined the forum ages ago.

I have been reading a lot here and noticed that a lot of Hero/Legendary members are fed up with shitposts from other high ranking members also. These members never had to 'earn' any merit for their status and just ranked up over time spamming the forum.

Now with the invasion of account farmers and Jr. Members that multi-account signature campaigns, shitposting got out of control. And the recent change for requiring 1 Merit to become a Jr. Member won't stop the account farmers, account buyers and multi-accounters. Make a change where only quality members can wear a signature IMO.

But please don't come here and say that people who genuinely promote projects, with a single account have no soul, who are you to judge?! Besides this, many of these people start off with doing airdrops and bounties because they believe in crypto, don't have the experience and knowledge that other members have because they just joined the crypto community and this is their way of getting started and in the end helping the mass adoption, which would benefit us all.

The battle has only just begun, my friend. I hope theymos scorches the earth of villainy and only the true heroes are left standing.

In all fairness, the outcome of this battle is far from meeting its expectations.

We're always open to suggestions to make this place better, but compromises need to be found.

Well that's what things like the merit system are for. We need to go further, but hopefully over time people will realise that posting crap will get you nowhere.

Therefore, they are not worthy of the benefits of bounty/airdrops. To some extent, bounty/airdrops are a boon to the BTT Forum for qualified members.

I care very little about bounties. Let the shitposters abuse them as long as they're confined to the bounty section. As long as they're not spamming the forum and ruining the usability of that for everyone else then so be it.

But you know, it's not really a forum for making of social campain. The primary goal of the forum was and will stay  to inform the crypto enthusiasts about the news in the Crypto World, about the development and technical possibilities  of blochchain etc.
I am not against bounties and I don't like this merit system, but let us please stick to the facts.

Canceling the rank of Jr.Member, the lowest rank set to Member may be a better solution? After all, getting 10 merits is much harder than 1 merits. What do you think?

Ok. Let's say I had a sr member account before which was "accidentally" given negative trust by someone I don't know. I contacted every admin of this forum and said that they're sorry but they can't do anything about that.

That account was created before merit system was implented and I had no choice but to create a new account for me to join signature bounties.

And with the merit system implemented, it seems impossible to have that account again.

Anyways there's no other way but abide by the new merit system or leave if you don't like it. Right?

You don't need to cancel the rank. Just get rid of Junior signatures completely and only let them have a signature until the achieve Member rank with ten merit. Junior rank still has its place and I think the one merit requirement at least sets them apart from the worst or the worst of Newbies who can't even get that. Let's make them step it up before they're allowed to earn by posting here though and ten merit is a good aptitude test for that.

Yeah, this would be nice. But, judging by themos' words he doesn't want to add too many restrictions, and this one would likely be a little to harsh in his book. I support the idea though, especially if this current solution doesn't prove beneficial in a few months time. I guess this would be the final draw until removing signature campaigns themselves. Imagine the uproar in Meta if that ever did happen.

In fact, as a newbie, I also want to raise the rank and make money from bounty(honestly, every newbie has had this idea.), but I seen a terrible fact after a while, the number of Jr.member's bounty participants is so large that I can't imagine it. I am angry that almost 90% of these Jr.member bounty participants posts were all of social media links. I think this is unfair, at least, for "humans" like me, this is not fair.
Today I found another fact. Many Jr.member got a merit today, and most of them are suspicious. I don't want to check if they are alt, beacuse this is a waste of my time. I just think 1 Merit may be too easy to get. If the lowest rank is member, the situation will be much better.

You are right. I have seen bot-like posts a lot of times now. Copied posts appear at the rear ends of hundreds of long pages. I am sure there is a thread to point out these accounts. I have been a little rusty so don't know for sure if this is being looked into actively or not.

Merits hurriedly brandished off are the worst. It is actually lot of work to give merit only to those who deserve it. Going through post histories is important to make sure these aren't just the bunch who get a "change of heart" post any new rule implementation. I think those users who have been trying to get involved but were getting ignored because of the huge spam should be the first ones to get merit.

An example (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5030445.msg45819445#msg45819445) of the mistakes that i am talking about. Not questioning Philipma's judgement but I think this was a hurried one. The kind that should not happen.

We don't want to know if you're bad in english if it's your second language or not. If you know that you are bad at it then you should start learning english by starting at basic skills. You can learn in fittotalk forum by jet cash and this one shared by this person https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4544266.msg40950206#msg40950206. You should open this link where you can find the ebook for learning english instead of telling your not good at english. I check  your post history most of it are twitter reports for bounty so it's hard for you to earn merit because of it.

By the way, Privcy changed now the conditions for their Airdrops, to wear the signature is not mandatory requirement anymore. So you can take part in the Privcy campain as a Newbie too without problems. Many bounties will change their requirements now, I am sure.

Why spammers?  People promote new altcoins and helps cryptocommunity grow up.
I don't think that this is bad. Blockchain technology become more popular and this "spammers" are the part of it.

I don't give a damn about signature campaigns or even the signature in general. I should be able to post images. I came to this forum to discuss and build bitcoin & crypto projects, not make money from an ad banner. Someone with some balls check my post history and tell me I deserve no merit.

Or we can create a topic in Meta, like: Demoted newbies' topic (for crying)... and lock (or delete) all the other topics about this change...
There are two kind of newbies now:
1. Who want to rage against the new system and this is why he/she opens a new topic in meta
2. Who wants to get merit immediately and starts a topic and writes in a style that will catch the merit sources' eyes, like advicing other newbies to create decent posts in order to get merit and stop crying, etc...
They should all go into one topic, it could grow 20 pages in a day and the merit sources would have an easier task if they really want to search among those users.... (or not...)
And Meta would be much cleaner, like it was 3 days before...

Maybe it is not difficult for you to earn merit/s, but for some people whose native language is not English getting even a single merit is an uphill climb.

It's not an excuse buddy, my native language isn't also English but how come I've got my Merits. I also knew many people here whose on the higher ranks who doesn't speak English really well.

This is a normal reaction to a change unless you are a bot, but everything will stabilize as time passes by just like the implementation of the merit system.
It's not normal though, that's is some kind of abnormality on a certain individual. Whining and mumbling all the times every changes has been made isn't normal. All of these are being discussed before it was implemented. I really don't give a damn to those noobs who has a little iniatiative to help these forum look better.

Or maybe you figured out that raging against the new changes isn't going to earn you any merits?
Certainly. Indeed.
