Title: How is ROI on cryptocurrencychart.com calculated?
Post by: Canele on September 23, 2018, 03:00:50 PM
I am playing with https://www.cryptocurrencychart.com/ which looks really useful for producing custom charts.

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding how they calculated ROI on this site though - please please can someone help me as it's driving me a bit mad? Click on this link to see the sryptos that have delivered the top monthly returns: https://www.cryptocurrencychart.com/top-return-on-investment/month

Scroll down a bit and you will see a list of the top 25 coins for monthly ROI. On there is bitcoin, showing an ROI of 104% (as of the time writing this post) ... you'll also see all the other coins with those high figures, which I completely don't get. I'd have thought they calculate % monthly ROI on starting price 1 month ago compared to current price, and then show the % gain during that period as the ROI.

I have been in the crypto space for a couple months so please go easy on me! Thanks for your help.

I don't know if I can be of any help but here is how the chart appears to me:

I'd have thought they calculate % monthly ROI on starting price 1 month ago compared to current price, and then show the % gain during that period as the ROI.
I also think that''s the case. It seems to me that the current price of BTC is about 4 percent higher than the price from a month ago, hence ROI~=104%.

you'll also see all the other coins with those high figures, which I completely don't get.
Well the other coins have higher ROI's because a month ago they have been dumped much more than bitcoin. That's why their relative growth seems higher.

It's like that, when the market is in its bearish phase, only bitcoin manages to hold, all the others go down considerably more.
