Hi!

I am a complete stranger to BitCoin, but I got offered a job described as 'customer service' helping a guy manage his wallet. He wants to create an e-wallet for me on localbitcoins.com, put his money in and then for me to carry out orders for him as he sends the details on. It seems super straight forward, and he says he is too busy to do it all himself.

Is this a legit job offer? Is it even legal? I have no idea how this stuff works and I have been trying to research it all. I don't want to agree to something that will get either of us in trouble.

I'd appreciate any help on the matter. Thanks.

I don't think people will believe a stranger with $$$. At least, I would not. I think it's a trap although there is no way to scam you.

Please be careful. It may be a scam attempt, eg. he shows you how to make easy money with trades and wants you to invest your money, too. Never trust anyone you dont know when it comes to investments and supicious job offers

(basically) Free money  & a guy who is too busy to manage it? That's already two big red flags.

Why in hell would he want someone with absolutely no experience nor history in this field to manage his money? I'm 99% sure he's attempting to scam you one way or another.

Either he's longconning to misuse your LBC identity to launder money et al, or he wants you to deposit some of your money and will probably run with it.

Do you know this guy in real life or is he a complete stranger? That might be the deal-breaker here as you didn't really mention it.

If someone wants you to manage his money, what do you think about it? I wouldn't let that happen.

I've heard of same offer before but it requires his person to commit transfers through PayPal and that's a scam. And you know what's the description of customer service than a personal assistant, as adolfin said, maybe he just wanted you to verify an account for him or likely to use you for something unethical.

think about this, if you were him/her would you hire someone to have access to your BTC funds? do you think his/her reason is valid or enough i youwere him/her?

Anyways I am not that familiar with the website, maybe there is an option there where you can sign in as a trader for someone and that you can not withdraw his/her funds and maybe that is the reason why he/she is confident that a guy like you can not transfer funds away from his/her account.

could be stolen funds and you end up in posession of them connected with your id and no proof about the stranger lol

It's pretty strange because he would have no need to use another person for Localbitcoins trades. It doesn't ask for KYC unless you're handling large amounts. Did he talk about how much money would be involved? You'll probably be aiding in money laundering with your personal information at worst, and you get an easy job at best.


It's legit and legal under normal circumstances, but this sounds shady, so take everything with a grain of salt. Post any additional details here so the community can help you.

The trading you would be doing would be pretty straightforward though, if you're worried about that.

If you do not want to get cheated by him ; just forget this offer.
Or else give that person my profile to manage his funds;  ;D  I have several charity tasks pending to perform.

Don't do it. It might not be you, but somebody is going to get scammed. If it seems "super straightforward" to you, a complete newbie, then there is no way he could be too busy to do it himself. I've done lots of LBC trades and I have never needed somebody else to help me.

Remember that the LBC account will have your name on it, so when the guy scams somebody or does something illegal, you will be blamed.

Also, consider it from your "employer's" point of view. Would you trust a random newbie with your money and with managing your trades?

Finally, post your question on the LBC forum. I'm sure you will get the same answers, but they might be able to tell you exactly how the scam works. Those people have seen a lot of scams over the years.

Just think about yourself. If you have a large sum of the money and you are a busy man. Then will you give your money management to a random online guy or you will hire someone from the local area? You have to remember one thing first, no one going to offer good things via private messages from telegram or any social media.

He might be looking for scapegoat (some money laundering operation or scamming other users)
Task he's asking for can be pretty easily automated using localbitcoins API. Nothing complicated. There's just too many red flags around (especially when dealing with some random stranger).

On the other hand if he's the one who create the account, going to use his bank account or BTC to fund it and you only receive login details then it could work.
But this raise another question why would he trust some random strager with his funds.

There is no way the guy can scam the OP since he is putting his own money on risk and isn't asking OP to put any of his money into the business. The thing is, the other guy might be transferring the money from an illegal source and doesn't want himself to get tracked for its usage and that is the reason why he offered a guy, completely inexperienced and never known to him, the job so that he gets the business going but no harm should come to him in case something goes wrong.

I've been offered the same way as what this guy was but I never accepted it even though it's a legit or scam, but I'm not actually desperate to accept things like that if I don't know enough information to that person and maybe the person who have offered me was trying to launder money from other users.

Actually it's definitely possible this could be a scam. Because before the guy actually deposits the funds, he might give instructions to have the OP make a small deposit to the wallet first saying he needs to confirm the OP is a real person. Or he could ask the OP to send some form of identify for verification so he can steal it and use it to commit a crime.


No, it doesn't sound legit at all especially if it's coming from complete stranger. Ask yourself, would you trust someone you don't know with all your own hard earned funds? This whole thing just sounds super shady don't fall into the trap.

The job is "possible" but could be too good to be true.
People are right that no one will give you there whole finance and you manage it.
But the thing is i know in crypto they could just give you some sort of APIs and you can still do the job of managing without actual spending, or making money for the person.
Do you research. I really think it is possible.

What if it is a genuine offer from a kind hearted person. Of a truth, money has no friend but a person might just have enough to give out but doing it in a way you won't feel gifted.

Sounds like some kind of scam or a way to have an innocent person take the blame when things go south. No one is too busy to manage their own money.

I have never encountered such a thing, although it is incredible, but it seems that he did not ask you to pay any fees and provide your privacy, I think you can try to do this kind of work!

It's a 50-50 chance, but I wouldn't think so... I've recently been scammed for $100 worth of BTC by a "kind hearted person" but as it turns out, he was just being kind hearted to himself. ;D

I think the way this scam work is as follows. You "manage" the wallet from your computer <IP address> and he is taken out of the loop, when people start looking for him. The IP address and all other information that can be traced, will point back to you and his hands will be clean.

Why would I willingly give such sensitive information to somebody I hardly know?

Another possibility is that he is using a service that only allows one entry/account from one IP address and you are providing him another entry/account from your IP address.  ::)

Nobody will do something for free to anyone. In most cases this will be a scam attempt. Do not trust anybody like this.
