Title: Planning to do my Masters Research on Blockchain (Suggestions Needed)
Post by: Joel_Jantsen on September 24, 2018, 10:02:02 PM
Hello lads, how are ya doing? Like the title says, I'm planning to do my dissertation this year and in the process of brainstorming hot tech trends to write my research on. I'm a computer science engineering student with a strong background in programming and cryptos in general. I came up with some topics like Supply Chain Management, Vendor Management, Identity Approval on the blockchain. If you have any other good ideas that you think I can explore, please suggest them down.

Update : Friday 16th November 2018

After examining the various areas. I'm going forward with the topic - Using Blockchain to mitigate third party frauds in the Food Supply Chain.

POS vs POW vs DPOS vs Centralized vs Database driven (none blockchain stardard bizz)
Pros and cons.

Yes something like this, since it's for a thesis, you may try to explore some general concept about pressing problems to improve blockchain technology, for example:

   - transaction speed
   - data storage

Off course you don't have to come up with a solution but you could end up finding something interesting.

But does that solve any existing problem at hand? My research needs to be inclined towards solving a problem and not just comparison.

Yes, that seems feasible. Thanks for the information Piggy, I will start looking into it. I will definitely publish the paper for review by the experts here.

Supply Chain Management

I think this is your best bet, as it's one of the best implementations of a blockchain.

Imagine being able to trace your steak back to the farm where it was raised, see the food it was given, see where it was killed, and if any sickness was there at the time, etc.  I believe IBM is working on this.

I would suggest you consider the "Identify Approval on Blockchain". The reason is that going for what Vod has suggested means that you would be researching what some other companies have gotten to the stage or deploying and not only IBM, I had read about LG planning something like that and for words to get out about it, they must have tested it and be sure its a workable solution at the minimum.

Identity verification of the other hand, seems a global problem that have not been solved yet despite the several verifications that have been put in place by various technologies that have come before now and you could be a front line that would be consulted for implementation considering the problem is being faced by both the private sector and public sectors.

Agree that supply chain management or logistics very useful applications, but am afraid there are many projects already doing this, with several PoCs already trialled. Then again, you could use this to your advantage by examining all the case studies and make good comparative analyses.

Another one states are hot and heavy for are electoral rolls, with also several trials concluded or ongoing.

Personally am most interested in accountability uses for charities, especially in the field, with growing popularity for cash-based aid. The UN has at least 7 blockchain trials (5 for supply chain/logistics).

Lots of material for you. I'm also doing something similar, ir considering, but my area is a bit less well trodden (refugee studies) so maybe identity an area for me.

That is the best idea so far Vod! I was talking to my supervisor exactly about this and we can actually go ahead and see if there are existing papers on the same topic. The goal is to publish a paper which will be accepted by IEEE/IFAC organisations.

As much as I would like to work on that problem, I equally hate the fact that this leads to giving up on the anonymity. The concept really has it's commercial advantages but I'm a bit against with validation inside of a free ecosystem.

Sounds great! Maybe we should keep in touch and help out each other during the research? Like peer-to-peer reviews. :) Message me your telegram or something if you're okay with it.

How about: "The role of Cryptocurrency in a robust Blockchain enterprise."

Thought this up because I've come across several posts on this forum that state the fact that governments are eager to study and invest in Blockchain technology, but remain wary of the associated token/ Cryptocurrency.  Some empirical investigation is needed to clear the air on this duplicity.

Very interested in your development. Most often, it is young students who are the most promising programmers, especially if they already have some ideas. Please write me in detail about the ideas in the PM

Some really nice angles here.
Very curious about reading your Master. Hope you will share this here  ;D
