Title: Bitcointalk Account Security (2FA)
Post by: Devawnm367 on October 04, 2018, 06:02:29 PM
Hey I am sure as long as this website has been around that this idea has been thrown out there. Anyways If people have a lot of issues with hacked accounts. How come you have not set up 2FA (2 factor Authentication) I love my Google Authenticator. I use it for most of my accounts, 777 coin, Kucoin, Binance.

If account hacking is an issue how hard would it be to add 2FA, keep in mind that it would not have to be required ONLY an extra security measure.

I do not know how I would feel if this acount got hacked and I am only a member. I am also not a programmer so not sure of the steps taken to add it, or even the cost $$$$

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents out there as I am sure Some Hero/Legendary's would agree, give me your opinion Theymos.

Anyone with a little programming experience your opinions are accepted as well.

I hope this is the correct thread!

TOTP is a requested feature in the new forum software.

Eventually we'll have more authentication methods. In the mean time, stake an address.

I don't know if this subject was discussed before, but I have the same questions. Why Theymos don't/ won't set the 2FA?? We all know that many account get hacked daily and when you post a thread to recover your account don't expect to get an instant response.

Hackers (script kiddies) usually use key loggers or trojans to steal your password, but with 2FA this will be useless.

Why don't you bump share your idea or opinion on an old thread? Will not it look better? This topic has been discussed thousands of times and it's really annoying to have a new thread again.

Isn't it time to introduce 2FA to enhance user account security ? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3189636.0)
2fa on bitcointalk (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4679821.0)

Some others?
Please, Google before making a repetitive suggestion.

Can bitcointalk.org get 2 factor authentication? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178568.0) (2013)
Why doesn't Bitcointalk support 2FA? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1472714.0) (2016)

It might have been discussed before. But at present no resolution has been reached, and with repetitive cases of hacked accounts, the matter is worth bringing up again, rather than bumping an old thread.

For more than a year, the update of the forum was discussed. I definitely won't give you a link to the thread. But the proposal has already been for the introduction of 2 factor authentication. But as it was said, now the priority for the forum is the fight against spam. Maybe through time our beloved forum will change their appearance and implement security, because it is really needed.

2FA is a good feature for the forum if implemented but it has a downside, the forum if i am not mistaken does not have a support system where you make a complain and it will get resolved quickly? So what happens when 2FA is implemented and a member lost their authenticator? I think implementing the feature will make things difficult for members and creating more work for the mods. Bitcointalk is a forum and should be run as a forum.

Your 2cents are highly valuable in today's market. I have thought deeply about this myself and wondered why the forum is yet to implement it. Given the high level of hacks and the bottleneck in retrieving a hacked account, I think Theymos and co should speedily implement this security feature.
