Title: Altcoin really worth it?
Post by: mrwalker1750 on March 06, 2014, 10:52:26 PM
I was looking at this Beecoin and thinking about investing in it. It is dirt cheap.

However as I was looking at the price and stuff, I saw someone had bought like 650million beecoins. I'm thinking, "If that coin rises to the value of one cent, he/she is millionaire!"

What am I missing here because I've been trying to ride the Bitcoin/Litecoin waves here recently and I've made a little, but I'm no millionaire. What say you?

Only coin worth investing right now is Coin2, started ordinary but gained a lot of following in China

Went from 47 sats to 1000 sats in 4 days

Too many altcoins and not enough buyers. Only real winners with all these new "coins" are the devs with their $50,000 worth of premine each time. Stick with litecoin imo and hold them. Or if you're in the UK where electricity is too expensive to make mining feasible, just buy litecoin/bitcoin and hold.

i do like waves and think it is worth putting some money into it. and my personal "thinking frame" is generally... just have a look at coins which are not total bullshit.
like ETH, DASH, MONERO maybe RIPPLE and of course BITCOIN. just think about how huge this market will be in like 10 years from now? we are just at the beginning.

and as i like to say: the real crypto "rush" is still lying ahead

cheers and good luck

What you are saying is correct, but you are missing something major. Most of the coins will FAIL, so you will never become a milionare with them. The thing is, there are a lot of coins, just check out all pages on https://coinmarketcap.com/. Sure some coins on page 3 are worth pennies and could possibly (very very unlikely) explode in value and come to page 1 with a giant market cap. But these coins will most likely let you down, they will fail. Their volume will drop and they will die off.

The lower Market Cap coin you find, the lower the potential it is of it rising, BUT if it would rise, the multiplier is much higher.

Of course altcoins are worth investing in. Think about Bitcoin in the early days. It was worthless, and people viewed it as a novelty. Now look at it! The early adopters of the coin are filthy rich. Altcoins are a risk as is any financial investment, but they can help support Bitcoins in the crypto industry much like silver supports gold in the precious metals industry.

There are altcoins with good tech but a lot of garbage.  I still like XEM here as a currency and a few others for their services such as potential decentralized exchange.   Bottom line is Bitcoin is old tech with high fees and slow transaction rates.  There are some good replacements out there but most ... 95% are clones of BTC.

There are definitely some Altcoins that have a lot of potential and good tech in them, not to mention their potential to grow is extremely high since you can get in early and make significant capital gains.

From 2016-2017 many new coin in Ethereum platform, some are have potential but many of them just garbage, do a lot of research if want to buy altcoin that can give you profit, maybe old coin is more safe to long term investment like Litecoin or XMR.

Yes recently every new project are launching their own token on ETH smart contract but i doubt even 10% of them will get any success. We have to careful and shouldn't invest in something that doesn't have any real life application in future.

I agree that there has to be a real world value now. I think that at the moment the coins with the most potential are ones that can convert ordinary businesses (banks) into using crypto-currency, like Ripple, Stratis and Stellar.

There is no reason answering to OP because last time he was active it was 06 August 2014. Check his profile (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=250170). It's simply a necroposting process. If you check you will see that this coin has already died because, IIRC, is not in coinmarket.cap (https://coinmarketcap.com)

Most people will be pitching the tokens they have stake in to you. the bearishish market seems on the way, so don't buy into any project that has less than 500BTC daily trading volume, most people will only tell you when they are making money but not when losing money

but you can't only buy the huge established coin, because you will lose possible profit in other small market of some unknown coins that will grow and have the same huge volume of the other coin, one day, some of these coins that have 500 BTC volume were in the beginning very small liek the other coins thta now you are snobbing

Your argument is very correct as most of these established coins, the probability of making profit is very low and if there will be any profit, it will be marginal because most have fully grwon and the number of new entrants are not enough to force the big profit compared to the potential coins which have the opportunity to grow but one needs to be careful and be resilient because during the trying times of such coins, one might be forced to sell out thereby losing reasonable amount of investment.

The question is if the coin would hit $0.01? Its not possible specially when theres someone holding lots of it and theres no buyer of that coin.Theres no circulation and adoption which means value would really be less and incase it do gain some value that person could easily manipulate the price but 650 millions supply is really exagerated for me and i do consider it as an another shitcoin just like on the market.

I think a lot of these altcoins are susceptible to this kind of market manipulation. A whale can easily bait greedy traders into a pump and dump if they control a lot of the supply.

Spagni explains that Monero or other altcoins can be safe in the future, but he also points out that anyone interested in using Monero should be aware of the risks associated with using it as a store of value.

"Sure, the attackers who are against Pow's network can not magically steal their money, but they can disruptively attack them when they have to spend the money,"

I'd recommend looking for some of the following desirable features in an Alt Coin.... the more the better

1. Instant/Fast Transactions
2. POS / Hybrid (i.e. more decentralized than POW only)
3. Voting / Treasury fund
4. Developers who communicate regularly
5. Active Community
6. Marketing: Great Brand Name / Nice website / Polish
7. Functionality / Solving a Problem?

Some that look good to me for future growth based on having these features include: DASH, NEM, PIVX, GNT, DECRED, INPAY, NAVCOIN

Yes, everything seems to be perfect but we have to analyse ourselves before investing into altcoins, some companies are not focusing on total supply. Some devs are continuously developing in market to make the coin more reputable in the market.

Not every coin is worth investing in, you need to do research on the coins. Look up their history, the team behind them, how active the devs are, their future plans. A lot goes why certain coins gain in value, and others fall.

Also, I was looking for the future that all currency were change into digital currency and all Altcoins were becoming the market currency

- japan is getting big on crypto
- advanced stage of money creation
- low market cap

I do beleive altcoin really worth it just buy when it is cheaper rate and sell when already earn profit. But not all altcoins are profitable, there is a need to do some research if its worth to trade. Worth it in the sense that you will earn during trading altcoins.

It is funny that the demands for alts' characteristics are that high although the best crypto-currency (bitcoin) can not meet them. It has slow transactions, no POS, no flexibility in problem solving. I think this should mean that we miss something when put criteria of good coins. It can't be so easy. Otherwise one would just create (and maybe has already created) a perfect coin and it would overcome any other. I believe it is possible for a technically good coin to cost small sums and not be noticed.

The guy probably made a research about the coin or he's one of the whales who manipulated it. And for you make a research not just riding on what's hot. You can also make a million if you take it seriously.

The altcoins really worth are has large of capitalization marketcap i took reference from http://coinmarketcap.com/
but the most difficult make investing in altcoins is follow the updating from developers,
sometime I don't have much time for search and read their updating because of too many altcoins that be updated
and i just learned about analysis technical for making prediction.
The altcoins is really worth for me is ethereum classic because it is original of blockchain eter.

Yes for me altcoins is really worth it because of the cheap price you can buy a big amount of altcoins and high volume of it and when you hold it for a long tern investment it gonna give a great amount of cashback in your investments. For me it is a greater investment than bitcoin.

It is surely worth but not as high as dash had reached. Currently the basic use of altcoin is sell of 90% of your bitcoin and then bitcoin price will drop. With the sold bitcoin buy any altcoin which leads to increase in price , when you feel you got sufficient profit buy bitcoins again and mostly the price will increase. Like this an investors earns more than 1000$ .

Although I'll likely continue to be bullish on BitCoin long-term (and the market in general) and have been for a long time already, yes Bitcoin hasn't stepped up to the plate so we now see a bunch of good alt coins stepping up to cater for not only the epic speculative demand, but more importantly the exponentially growing functional demand for cryptos and digital assets.

The general public don't yet know that they need and benefit greatly from crypto coins, dapps and blockchain tech.

However, it seems this statement is becoming more irrelevant every day as people get on board the blockchain train.

A huge protracted downward correction/trend may delay the inevitable love of the blockchain, but that at least gives us more time to reap early-adopter benefits.

Bro think about it. Lets say you buy 1 btc, it goes up 10% or 50% you have just a bit more btc

But let's say you buy 1 btc worth of alt coins. Lets say your alt coin goes from 500 satoshi to 1000 satoshi. You've just doubled ur alt coin value and if you sell you got 2btc. On top of that, btc value is also going up, so your value of btc in fiat is even higher.

This is a no brained for me. And if you research the right coin, and get like 5x return ur fiat value is insane

What do you think?

I think you forgot to mention that there is no warranty that the coin will gain value, or gain value in the time frame you predict.

You may lose money too, even if you know what you are doing.

If we check the statiscif of the forum then we can see that the activity of most users is focused in altcoin board and based on this we can see that altcoin is a new generation of cryptocurrencies.

And there have been many improvements comparing with few years ago where there were really fewer altcoins but also bitcoin was not as popular as it is now, nor the price was so high as it is now.

My opinion is that altcoins are really worth and in a few years I believe that at least one coin will cost near to one bitcoin.

Yes, alt coin is reall worth it to buy. Alternative coin is more bit cheaper than bitcoin when we buy it. If i have a lot of money i would invest it in alt coin because I believe that we can earn more when we invest to alt coins. Nowadays alt coin has a good price in the market too. I conclude that this one will be good.

Every altcoins are pumping and dumping in value. So no need of making any complications. To make profit from altcoins one need to be having good capital and a strong determination to observe the price variation and make the right trading move to profit high.

Depends. Top 50 coins have a chance if you know what they're about, maybe. The rest are just pump and dumps. I'd stick to top 20 unless you're interested in trying your hand a short term trading.

Profit is high but the loss caused by them may be high too. Risk is the risk and without doing risky trade, there is no free food out there. Anyways, I think some promising altcoins worth investment.

Choose coins that are worth investing, do a research if the projects are good and have great potential in the future. If it's progressing or not and if it is stable or not. Basically you have to learn also about the coins you are investing because we will never know it might pull out anytime and you've invested too much you can't take the capital back.

They are cheaper but they have a higher potential to be doubled than bitcoin, especially those that cost some pennies.

Bitcoin has the potential too, but will become harder and much harder for bitcoin to double its price because it is going to have a higher value.

The next one after bitcoin is ByteBall which costs $788, all others cost much less and are not near to bitcoin.

Absolutely since there are so many shitcoins around and surely all of us will cry if we fall to invest on them since most provably there intention is to scam and no longterm goal will beneath or backed up with them. And the coinmarketcap site will be the best indicator to us if we want to seek those potential coin to invest with since they give the actual stats on the best coin around.

Many altcoins have survived and thrived over the years. Ethereum is an altcoin. Nem is an altcoin. SNT is an altcoin. All interesting coins with potential. It is too early to tell who the long term winners will be. Until then do your research, and trade smart.  ;D

The value of a currency does not speak to its potential, it depends on the amount of money being marketed. Everyone's preference for a currency speaks to its power. Potential is the most important factor that we need to consider for investment.

Depends. Top 50 coins have a chance if you know what they're about, maybe. The rest are just pump and dumps. I'd stick to top 20 unless you're interested in trying your hand a short term trading.
Altcoin just pump and dumps and the profit comes from these 2 factor (while the factors are active team, development, community and daily trading volume from certain coins. You can do some experiment to find best coins other than the top 50 on coinmarketcap, who knows you get something.

I agree with you about the unsteady nature of altcoins. What really annoys me is that they don’t even produce a sufficient profit after pumping. But I would like to oppose your suggestion of investing into different coins just to check their potential or your luck in crypto world. To make a good profit, best option is always bitcoins. They never disappoint the users.

There are two kinds of altcoin that we must understand, the first is altcoin which does have a business value, and the second is altcoin that deliberately propagated for temporary gain and very short. If we buy coins that have a fixed business then whatever their initial rankings will continue to increase according to the movement of the year. But also we buy altcoins that have no real evidence, we can benefit only in the first period alone, so it will not be effective to hold in long term.

Investing in multiple coins just to check out your luck is an idiocy. It is not gambling where you should try your luck. It’s a trading means a proper business. The ever best option of investment is bitcoins undoubtedly. No other coin can compete with bitcoins in terms of generating profit.
