Setup the wallet on the new computer and let it run, that'll create a new empty wallet. Stop that wallet and the look then to replace that new wallet with the old wallet. If Linux, look for the ~/.bitcoin/wallet.dat and move that to the new computer same location. Restart the wallet and it should be everything you expect; only then, delete the wallet.dat from the old computer.. and I would dd zero complete the old computer to ensure that old wallet isn't recoverable.
