Title: Better Understanding of Bitcoin Maximalists Needed
Post by: Fenderr on October 20, 2018, 09:13:48 PM
So guys I've been here for a while, and a lot of times I see responses with Bitcoin Maximalists.

I checked on google and I got a definition on https://www.investopedia.com/terms/b/bitcoin-maximalism.asp as being 'one who favor bitcoin over other use cases and for the long term..'. I'm struggling to get a grasp of it which is why I've brought it here for better explanation.

If you take the position that "all altcoins are scams" then you're probably a Bitcoin maximalist. It's basically just a term used by altcoiners to describe people like that.

read that article fully and it should clarify most of the things for you.

but some things that weren't mentioned there is the fact that the problem is not with bitcoin or bitcoiners, it is with altcoins. they are terrible. specially the coins on top (like ethereum which started this term). coins that are centralized, premined, buggy, insecure, not immutable,... and worst of all are pump and dumps. but when you state these facts you are branded as a "bitcoin minimalist"!
basically what the altcoin pumpers do is because they are incapable of arguing against the facts they brand you in order to disregard your statements.

Wow,I realise that I AM a bitcoin maximalist. ;D
And all altcoins are indeed scams(the altcoins that aren't scams are useless, they are used only for pump&dump). We need more bitcoin maximalists in the crypto world. This is the only way for bitcoin to start growing again.Make bitcoin great again!

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic but for what it's worth saying all the altcoins are scams and pump and dumps is not correct either. granted most of them are, but there still are some nice ones too. but unfortunately these good coins are always overshadowed by the scam pump and dump coins which take the top rank places and get all the focus because their pump is profitable.

There are people whose believe in Bitcoin reaches the radical level. They believe that any coin apart from Bitcoin is a scam and they will disappear in the long run. These people are Bitcoin maximalists. Some even go to the extent to say that the Bitcoin will take over all kind of fiat currency and soon only the Bitcoin will reign.

It's not the first time that I encountered this term, and I don't wholly agree with it. In the article, it is said
Quote
The argument then follows that investors would be best off making a leveraged investment in bitcoin than taking chances with other coins or tokens.

I could say that I'm not one of them, I want to diversify my Bitcoin into other coins or tokens if possible so I could profit and support other coins too, as long as the coin has a significant volume and has future chances with being accepted by other people. That's the essence of using cryptocurrencies, for me, knowing that I could trade it to another person freely and is widely accepted. Bitcoin is currently that coin and would stay that way.

The term is used to refer the investors or even common people who prioratize the bitcoin above all the alt and fiat coins. It's a word used by the coin users, and the maximalists have their own ideology.

You should read the article in detail as you'd understand in-depth of the origin of that term. Simple put it means someone who prefers Bitcoin overall and consider Alitcoins as a scam so, this term was made by who prefer Altcoins to Bitcoin. In the end it really depends on the person who wants to invest in what but people still like coming up with slangs to identify someone who prefers one or the other and would make such a name.

Ah, I had a better understanding now just reading some of the comments. I thought it was a term or label given to everyone who just hates bitcoin cash.

Bitcoin Maximalist have support bitcoin solely they have a simple desire to make bitcoin even better and even though bitcoin is number 1 in the cryptocurrency market they tend to make bitcoin greater than that, And will outcast other coins they surely can be called faithful to bitcoin,

But in my opinion, there are still other possibilities that Altcoin can make bitcoin stride even greater and further that is why there are tradings the sole purpose of Altcoins I can think about.

A fancy term given to bitcoiners who see the coin as the superior one, ignoring the fact that there are other coins with better features and more efficient than BTC. In simple words, these are close-minded people who think that nothing will beat bitcoin in the long-run in any aspect (which is plainly wrong.) While I'm supporting bitcoin ever since, I tend to also look for other projects and see their strengths for what it's worth. It's worth noting that there are still some cool coins out there that has some unique features that can be used in real-world scenarios, so IMO there's really no reason to be a 'bitcoin maximalist' in a market full of potential growth from other relatively unknown projects.

In short, it is considered bitcoin as the only cryptocurrency that best then considers other altcoins not as good as bitcoin covering their development and technical aspects. But in fact there are several other altcoins that have these criteria such as Ethereum, Litecoin, and others. If I better enjoy subjective what they give to cryptocurrency users.
