Title: if (Dorian == Satoshi) { Post by: ibminer on March 07, 2014, 04:51:37 PM Hypothetical question:
If we had a signed message from 'Satoshi' right now stating that Dorian is in fact the real Satoshi, and we had Dorian start stating to reporters that he is Satoshi... how would bitcoin be affected? Would you anticipate a drop in price, increase? Would people be inspired by Dorian or disappointed? I think I would be inspired, and I think bitcoin would probably suffer a drop with a somewhat quick rebound to over $800+ I know a lot of people on this forum may think I am crazy, if they don't already, but I still am about 65/35 divided on whether Dorian is the real Satoshi... 65% that he is. It seems pretty impressive how closely the characters seem to match up... and the odds of having the same name, becoming unemployed around 2000. The extreme fear of government agencies. According to his kid(s), the man used to play a game to get them to hide in the closet when government agencies were coming to get them... this sounds like a man who would disappear from a project like Bitcoin at the mere mention of a meeting with the CIA. And also sounds like a man who would profusely deny any involvement with bitcoin if he were ever outed. The only thing that is holding that 35% of uncertainty is the *need* for newsweek to have a good story... and I feel like they (and the reporter) would do anything to get this story right now. And the fact that a person who wanted to remain anonymous would have just used his real name on these forums and everywhere else, this is what really makes no sense to me... But then again, he apparently would have been going by 'Dorian' since he was 24... so maybe he thought it was anonymous enough to just use 'Satoshi' instead of 'Dorian'? Any thoughts?? EDIT: Fixed spelling/grammar for "Remember remember the 5th of November" Title: Re: if (Dorian == Satoshi) { Post by: howzar on March 07, 2014, 04:55:16 PM I wouldnt be surprised if he really is the founder of bitcoin.

So your answer is null? I assume you are saying nothing would happen... there would be no effect to bitcoin? ;) Title: Re: if (Dorian == Satoshi) { Post by: chinacoinbase on March 07, 2014, 05:11:42 PM return null;

The only thing anyone can do with that information is to send him a thanks letter for creating Bitcoin, nothing else. Title: Re: if (Dorian == Satoshi) { Post by: turtoro on March 07, 2014, 05:15:09 PM Forget it. BTC is bigger than a single person now. Everything else makes for a nice story but it wont change the fundamental dynamics.

His backtracking appears to be hogwash. Agree with the op's odds that he is the real Satoshi. Title: Re: if (Dorian == Satoshi) { Post by: Lauda on March 07, 2014, 06:11:14 PM Bitcoin is independent. Although I do not see a price increase in that case, especially if he shows that he can still use those 1+ million coins. If Dorian is Satoshi, I'm leaning towards he doesn't have access to them anymore. Maybe he self-destroyed his wallet as a way to leave bitcoin and wash his hands with it after thinking the government would start getting involved (before prices went up). Maybe he thought that bitcoin would ultimately meet its end because Gavin was meeting with the CIA and his outcome of bitcoin changed from being hopeful to hopeless in a split second. He already seemed worried/scared about the wikileaks situation & kicking the 'hornets nest'. This Dorian gentleman definitely appears hard-headed, and seems like the type of person that would stick to a decision if he made it on the fly after reaching his tipping point. He reads Gavin's message and comes to the conclusion its all coming to an end and that he will be the one the government comes after. He destroys anything he has relating to bitcoins and disappears in an attempt to protect his identity. This also makes sense with the possibility that he was partially using his real name and wanted people to stop associating his name with bitcoins to try and keep himself as low profile as possible, fearing that the increased popularity would ultimately lead people to Dorian (him?). If this is the case, he probably hates that he has been up on a pedestal and probably wants us all to just stop talking about him.
