what platform ? you mean the forum ? Of course in general it isnt safe, if you want to buy bitcoins from people via p2p then you need to do a little research about your sellers/buyers.
If you are new to all of this i would suggest buying the crypto either from coinbase or blockchain.com, both of them are old wallets + now have the ability to purchase crypto from them via credit card

I would never buy coins p2p, at least not without using an escrow service.
I think you are new to the crypto space? Why dont you register at simple exchanges like cobinhood and buy your coins there?

You are right, buying coins without escrow is not safe. Even though buying coins with escrow service would cost you money for their service but the safety is guaranteed. I'd suggest that buying coins with escrow is a great IDEA because I've seen it when my brother use escrow service when buying coins or altcoins.

There are some exchanges that has gained reputations already although in cryptocurrency nothing is 100% assured but it's the closest you can get in being safe. Except you have other illicit motives like trying to double your coin, get it lower than the normal price and more.
Then you seek p2p which is still not safe even with the employment of an escrow agent there are cases of escrow agent defrauding individuals. It's just safer to get coin from exchanges that are of good reputations

If you're just getting started with crypto, I'd recommend sticking with one of the centralized exchanges for starters (as recommended by many posters above).

Trusted ones include Coinbase.com, Blockchain.com, Kraken.com, Bitstamp.net.

A more extensive list is to be found here: https://bitcoin.org/en/exchanges

Don't bother with p2p trades until you have a proper handle on crypto (how to use, how to keep it safe, knowing what watch-only wallets are, etc), otherwise you'll fall for the simplest of scams.

Good thinking being new to cryptocurrencies. That is also my concern before but if its buying bitcoin, you only need to trust reliable exchanges like Coinbase and Binance.

Check your country too maybe there is a registered local exchange that you can use.

The rate of scammers online are quite high this is not to say that trading can't be done online but the risk factors are high. A lot of users are impersonating real and reputable traders. Some are flooding your pm with fake wallet, exchanges or even offers you some fraudulent escrow. So the disadvantages quite exceeds the advantages.

It's only wise to get your coins from exchanges and be sure to have researched on the level of safety of the exchange you can do a Google Search on it although it's not so correct but it's gives you an idea

And if you must trade with an individual do it with a notable escrow agent

Hey I would advise you to first understand about cryptos their nature, the volatility that comes with it and if you're able to withstand the risky aspects and hodl for the long term then only buy it. As far for the question is this platform free from scammers no it's not, there're many here waiting to scam you. Here's what I advise before you trade here:

1) Insist on using escrow.
2) Go to the traded profile, see trust and see feedback.
3) See his latest trades and then decide for your self.

While there're few trusted people here to, I won't name them but you can look at the currency section and you'll find them.

P2p can be safe if trusted escrows are involved. Platforms like Localbitcoins have a built-in escrow service. The forum has very reputable escrows too.

The most convenient way to buy is probably by signing up for a legitimate exchange, but it might take some time with verification and whatnot.

The most important thing to really remember to avoid online fraud in general is that if something is too good to be true, then it probably isn't true.

You are in good place to start :). That is for sure. Fraud exist since caveman stole other caveman food while he was hunting. Your best way to secure yourself is to learn, watch bitcoin documentaries, watch youtube of andreas antonopolous lectures. Read books, read this forum, you will be close to expert in short time and more secure by that.

Don't use Bitstamp.  They are currently not performing USD fiat withdrawals. My guess is some kind of money crunch or theft that they refuse to publicize. There are people that have been waiting over 2 months for their funds to be moved out of Bitstamp. There are people looking to spearhead a class action lawsuit against them.

I don't understand which platform you refer to but if you meant where you can buy bitcoin and not get scammed, I will suggest that you avoid buying from individuals unless they are well known to you. Go for a reputable platform like coinbase. Make sure you do your findings.

which platform are you mentioning about? You should give clearer info and we will share with you more about our experience. Anyway, you should not choose p2p to buy btc. You only should buy btc from the person that you know well. To avoid scammer, should not believe in strangers. That is my experience and advice.

Peer-to-peer or "P2P" transactions are transactions whereas you transact without a middleman(e.g. Coinbase, other exchanges). So you pretty much have two conflicting statements there, just to let you know. :P

Also, why not? Exchanges with peer to peer options like LocalBitcoins[1] is also a good place to buy bitcoin, regardless if you're new to the cryptocurrency space or not.

You don't have to be scared at anything at all if you know what exchanges or people to be trusted. Right now the people only getting scammed are the ones who are risking their money to "too good to be true" kind of deals but if you do your own research you will see what sites or exchanges are good to buy and that is where you will of course buy the cryptocurrencies you want. And about KYC requirements, this sites are of course can be trusted with your personal information as they are requiring it with in the compliance of the law.
