I wouldn't try mining on that GPU even if you have access to free electricity with it. The GPU was not incredibly powerful on release and it's now extremely outdated for mining, and you're better off trying to get a better rig to mine with (RX 4/5XX or GTX 1060/170, etc). You'll likely run into problems even trying to initiate miners as some don't support GPUs as old as the 400 series, and you'll be making pennies a month with the 460M. It honestly isn't even worth your time trying to mine with it, but you could attempt mining a CryptoNight-Heavy or Neoscrypt coin with it if you really want to.

I think you can mine some coin using the laptop with your graphics card but you can only mine new coins and hold them for a long time.
The risk of using the laptop for mining it can be damaged your laptop due to high temp.

Like the above said if you could build a mining rig you can avoid your laptop to become damaged or broken.

I do not think that this is a good idea, especially to mine existing coins. For example, I am looking for projects that are at a developmental stage, as people are less. For a year I found 2 projects and my GTX 1050TI eventually earned 5 thousand USD.

You can mine something on cryptonight, for example etn or xmr.
However, you risks damaging the equipment, because laptops are not designed and intended for such work.

yeah i understand i am not a newbie on mining.

its an old laptop that is not working so good, all usbs are dead, 3 out of 4 ram slots are dead. no keyboard, no mousepad, soldered DC connector.

It is in crappy shape, so i have the 460m gtx  for nothing.

trying out minergate but stats are bad and only doing cpu mining the gtx460m is not recognized.

what can i mine whit claymore? it is giving me the DAG failure as memory is not enough...

i rather burn the GFX trying than just trowhing it on the trash

The 460m GTX on a laptop won't take you very far at all. Stats will be bad not only in Minergate but with any other possible mining software out there.

I test these old cards with the Nicehash or Winminer software and do an assessment test, which I am sure in your case will be in negative because maximum you will make 6-10 dollars in a month and that is an optimist prediction by my side.

So in the end it is not advisable to mine with the 460m GTX but you can try to sell your laptop for parts, I am sure you will get about 50 dollars in total which can be a good deal if the laptop is in the miserable condition you mention above.

Don't know what you can mine with that ancient dinosaur laptop but if you are going to mine anyways just remove the battery first so it doesn't explode and start a fire due to the constant heat.

If you really want to put that laptop to use, just run an BTC node, you won't get paid to do so but you won' t make much with that laptop anyways.

Keep Bitcoin decentralized and secure-- run a node.
