As the one who originally came up with this guideline, I should correct you to say it should be 120% of the repayment amount. Repayment amount because that is what you are risking - not the loan amount. 120% because the value of collateral can fluctuate. I would gladly come up with collateral worth 120% of the loan request. I am just not in a position where that is possible. I hoped somebody could help me with the loan, under the terms I offered. My collateral has a higher value than the loan I am asking for.
