Title: AMD Looks to Expand Crypto Mining Business
Post by: prashadraj205000 on November 05, 2018, 06:03:19 AM
The mining  (https://coindelite.com/news/amd-looks-to-expand-crypto-mining-business/)craze reached a point where the prices of these graphics cards became incredibly expensive. The target audience for which the cards were built (gamers) were unable to buy high-end graphics cards at a reasonable price.

The sales of mining GPU has slowed in the past few months. An agreement was reached between AMD and other manufacturers such as Asus, Asrock, and Saphire to design mining equipment and integrate AMD (https://www.amd.com/en) graphics cards 8). This agreement can help in providing a more specific and efficient use-case for blockchain technology.

AMD currently finds itself in a favorable position where it can utilize its expertise and market position on combining the best CPU and GPUs to make it better suited for blockchain  (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blockchain)technology. AMD is offering cards for mining ranging from $150 to $220.

After the hype in 2017, video card manufacturers produced such a number of them that they simply don't know what to do with. Therefore, there are ideas about the production of mining equipment. If they don’t invest hundreds of millions of dollars in cryptocurrencies, then their equipment will be useless.

Doesn't really seem they are looking to expand their crypto segment considering mining profits have dropped for miners and their sales attributed to mining have massively dropped off due to the decline in mining profits. There hasn't been any new mining-specific card releases in some time, and I don't anticipate any crypto-oriented releases are coming in the near future from them after the current stocks of mining cards sell out, and even if this comes out I doubt it will be very successful considering GPU demand is extremely low at the moment.

I assume the article linked in OP is quoting new card prices, but IIRC the cheapest RX 570/580 cards on the market are selling for as low as $100 and below used on eBay and various local sales sites. Even new mining cards aren't usually at $150 with the deals we've been having recently.
