Well we have been discussing it here:

Shapeshift Membership (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5013366.0). I think I can say that the consensus is that members here are doesn't like what going on with Shapeshift though. We used their services a lot, but their moved is really the final nail on the coffin for majority of us. Again it might be some regulatory body or authorities that pushed them this KYC, but still a action that the community doesn't appreciate at all.

This happened in September, kind of old news.

Changelly, flyp.me, changenow.io are just a couple of the many that dont have kyc.

Changelly

Ahem.

Changelly throw KYC at people when they feel like it. And in a few cases they use it as a reason to keep your money for good. Feel free to take the risk if you wish. I sure as shit will not.

Sometimes i think KYC is no use because how a certain host will determine that the submitted pictures of Documents and ID's are all original that with the advancement of computer hardware of today, it would be to easy to edit the picture as easy as 1,2,3. For me, this is just a waste of time that we don't know that they will just making money of our credentials. I believed shapeshift will reduce their costumers because of this.

Maybe you missed the part about how most KYC now will be pretty good at detecting that and oh, yeah, they're all into live video KYC now. Last two times I gave in to KYC (terrible, yes, I know), got me face to face with some random dude at a desk, almost felt like I was being interviewed, if not for the fact he seemed more nervous than me. All outsourced now most of it. Seems like good business to run an identity verification service.

Just make sure you exercise your rights to request for data deletion when all that's done.

They do guarantee that such request? I doubt that users wont really be granted with those request of such deletion. If they do, then it is really a good thing.
KYC is gradually implemented or tied up with those exchangers and no doubt or not really surprising that even other similar services would go the same path.
So, we wont really have any choice but to comply if we do tend to make use of them.

We have the right to ask ICO to delete our personal data, which is called "right to erasure" or "right to be forgotten". And if you're going to look at GPDR  (General Data Protection Regulation)

https://gdpr-info.eu/issues/right-to-be-forgotten/

I think this law also covers ICO's as well.

Quote
The correspondingly-named rule primarily regulates erasure obligations. According to this, personal data must be erased immediately where the data are no longer needed for their original processing purpose, or the data subject has withdrawn his consent and there is no other legal ground for processing, the data subject has objected and there are no overriding legitimate grounds for the processing, or erasure is required to fulfil a statutory obligation under the EU law or the right of the Member States. In addition, data must naturally be erased if the processing itself was against the law in the first place.

Yup, I know that for a fact and some redditors reported that they were demanded KYC in the middle of the transaction where they even hold it for a considerable amount of time. Actually before the KYC implementation arrived at Shapeshift one of its biggest advantage was their customers where never required to register an accounty, they can use their services right away. But with the KYC requirement taking place account registration will now be required for them.

Even some of the the top competitors of ShapeShift have been know to selectively scam people. The have been known to hold crypto for hostage to randomly require KYC for “suspicious transactions”. Even after fulfilling the KYC requests, they can take months to release the coins, if ever.

And for the author I think you should name names with this one as it would actually help other readers as well to be aware of this kind of situation which is usually common in these kinds of services.

It's Changelly again. I haven't heard of anywhere else of that nature attracting that much hatred and screaming about this, or any at all in comparison. There are also plenty of theories about its links to HitBTC, Freewallet, Bytecoin and other services that have a questionable rep.

Funny you mentioned about HitBTC and Changelly correlation because a few months ago when I'm doing some exchange from Bitcoin->Ethereum using their services, I was shock to find that out that they're using HitBTC platform because the address that came to my MEW wallet was coming from HitBTC (after successful exchange) itself so there's definitely connections between the two, so its a bit scary and shady as well.

I think this was due to the pressure of the regulators. If the project team wants to be safe, then it will have to do it.

Didn't know about this law and if this case would be implemented on all possible projects that do ask out KYC then it do really give some confidence but well full erasure
wont still be assured.

If will definitely added some weight regarding submitting our Personally identifiable information (PII). But obviously this is a EU thingy so I'm not sure how will impact projects started out of the EU zone. But at least it gives us more rights so I hope that other countries will have their own version of GPDR. Here are the list so far: (https://www.hipaajournal.com/what-countries-are-affected-by-the-gdpr/)
