Title: Is This Another Scam Or What?
Post by: shalaza on November 09, 2018, 10:52:59 AM
I received a mail from DECoin asking me to verify that i am not a robot via their website and typing a message that will show that the wallet is mine. Unfortunately for them, I only applied for the bounty(explained how they got my email address) but i didn't do any work. So, I knew immediately that it is scam. I played along and clicked on the link in the mail, a website loaded and on this website(http://MyEtherWallet-checks.space/signmsg), i am supposed to unlock my wallet to be able to verify that i'm not robot, who does that ??? I checked very well and saw that the site is like a clone of MEW.

I'm raising this issue because many like me would have gotten the message and some might not think twice before inputing their private keys. Although, i don't know if this is the norm. My question now is, can this be trusted or is it just another form of scam considering that the site is not secured?

Lastly, we really need to be careful of how we protect our wallets, so as not to get duped.

Note: I tried to reach DECoin concerning this and i haven't gotten any reply since yesterday

I don't really understand but I have an idea for you. One way to try it is to use a new ether address with the condition that your wallet is still empty, and later if he wants to retrieve the contents of your wallet then you are safe.

That link isn't myetherwallet's official site, it's a phishing scam. You should post something in the scam accusations section of the thread and hopefully that might spare some people from the scam. Though I think by now most people should be pretty clued up on these things.

If a site looks exactly like MEW but you see that the url is different, it is a 100% scam. There are such things here and there in crypto world, no need to spend much time considering them ;) but anyway, thnx for the report, hope it'll help someone keep their money safe)

It is surely a scam and it is a good thing that you highlighted it here so everybody will be aware of such a new fraudulent modus by scammers. Decoin team has not sent email to confirm or verify it's participants.

Just another act to hurt the already limping crypto community.  :(

Since I started participating in bounty campaigns and airdrops, I receive many different emails, including allegedly from the campaigns in which I participate. Basically, I do not open these letters, especially not go to the link. The easiest way to go to the chat of the project in the telegram, and find out if they sent letters to the participants. Be careful!

For sure it's a phishing site.  I  hope you didn't type your private key there
Real honest sites usually never give you links. They give you a text message, which you can copy, sign in MEW and return them back a signed message

This is a 100% scam. Because Myetherwallet is not going to verify yourself. And also Myetherwallet official site is https://www.myetherwallet.com then don't put your private key to anywhere. The important thing is no one going to give rewards via spam emails then don't trust or click them. You can block them and report as phishing.

I don't have to go through with that long story you made.

Just by determining the website you gave for myetherwallet. It is a fake one, decoin wants you to log in your private key with that phishing link that they made. It's a very popular scam scheme with these ICOs now if you are for their airdrops, don't be scammed and only visit the real MEW.

It depends on what type of work you did for them so far as you registered for there bounty you are eligible for payment but you said you did not do any work then it could be a random mail to every registered person check well and confirm but do not give your private key out or enter any suspicious link

OP said that he didn't do any work for them.

So that's fishy when they are requiring you to do that if you know in yourself that you never did any job. That's very suspicious and don't be caught with those schemes today or else you'll lose your life savings for being gullible with those emails.

Everything is very simple with me, if a project that you suspect is a scam project, then the likelihood that this scam project is growing up, because according to probability theory, it really has great chances.

Look at the domain name, surely this is scam. There are so many forms of scams today and you need to be careful with it. Your email has been revealed, which means that you have entered into some airdrop and your information has been sold

That is clear is phishing site. I also experienced it some time ago asking me to confirm that the wallet that was registered was really mine, but directed to mew phishing site. Therefore I did not continue. Don't be tempted by $ 50 or $ 100 if you don't want to be caught in a trap like this

chances are you are exposed to a phishing site, I suspect it was because you said that it was like an imitation of MEW. do not continue entering the site again, because it is very risky on the security of your wallet.

Are you kidding me? from your story and that was obviously true if DECcoin is a scammer. You have said the evidence if deccoin was a scammer. Deccoin sent you an email that contains phishing link to redirect you to the fake MEW site. Your message will never be replied by decoin.

I think you have to ask the team, DECOIN's developer or advisor, I am analyzing that DECOIN is a good project.

if they ask for your wallet address, I think you should be more careful. but, you don't conclude quickly. it's better to wait for information from the team.

Smile, this is pure scam without any mix up which an experienced man in the industry would easily recognized. Don't enter your private key on any phising site. There are many of them out there trust me. Someone just need to be very careful with those fraudsters out there, they only wake up in the morning and keep thinking of different method of reaping people's of their hard earned money

That's definitely a phishing website, once you input any of your wallet private details into the provided text field on the site your wallet gets compromised and you're bound to lose every assets you have in it. Any campaign or airdrop that requires you unlock or submit your wallet private details is and will always be a scam!

It is good you have discovered it. Which means that you have to be very careful. Thus is an indication that your email address is already with a scammer(s) and they will continue to make attempts towards spamming your email with more phishing sites. This won't be their last attempt. Then, clicking on just any link you see on your mail is not advisable, because you might be sent a malware.

Follow your doubts yet those are actually real that they are scammers.Receiving some link or message which you didn't expect yet you haven't performed any task or work but they do ask specific thing that do connects with wallet verifications and other similar things then you should stop and think first before doing careless actions. No project will give out some phishing links if they do then that team is totally a fraud.
Don't expect for them to reply on you since you had bust them out.

Try to read and understand what the OP has post buddy. Decoin is not a scam project and OP is trying to make us aware that a scammer is sending him/her email that will lead him/her to a phishing website and if the OP will give his private key then his done. Moral of the story is never give up your private key to anyone you never know or trust. Not even to your partner in life  ;D.

You are right mate, the best thing to do is ask the team through telegram for updates. Though i got a feeling that it is some sort of the bounty's team fault because they are exposing the bounty participants email on the spreadsheet giving way for scammers to fraud the participants. Glad that they already hide the email add but i think it's too late.

Any sane people with healthy logic would find out that it's nothing but a phishing attempt done by phisher but what worries me is that there's large amount of cryptocurrency user that know nothing about sort of thing and blatantly trusting anything they see on the internet.
If you can, it's always better to report such site to google or antivirus so that it could be blocked automatically.

Such a link is obvious is a phishing experiment, the right step that you move quickly when is to stop accessing the website, if you just paste your secret key there, maybe now the assets in your wallet are gone. Things like this are usually often encountered in e-mail

Any clone of myetherwallet or mistypo in their domain is considered a phishing site so don't login in here there, or you can do so with an empty wallet, we don;t know if they are the one doing it but if it comes from their official email then one of the team tries to hack your wallet and they should not be trusted for this.

It is the responsibility of the bounty manager to not exposed the email address of it's participants to the public. It is also our responsibility to protect our money from scammers so if we receive emails that ask to give our private then you know drill, don't ever give up your private address online to someone you don't know.

People are greedy for easy money. You should watch out. Most everything you need to know about crypto schemes is available with a quick Internet search. The crypto community has been absolutely fantastic, actually, about policing itself. These people know full well that government will never be effective in preventing fraud in this space.
More and more scams appear on website , in telegram groups , in mail on exchanges .....

One of the major characterisitics of coins that are not scams is their ability to be completely transparent about the things that they are doing with the project. Any project that asks you to input your private key is not a legit coin, you have to know that they want nothing but to steal your coins

You should always be careful with such projects. Try to make you own investigation and invest only in legit projects. Moreover, install an anti-virus software on your wallet and avoid visiting fishing websites and you will be safe.
