This is an interesting question, but it is related to the strength of the collapse of the global financial system. I personally think that the cryptocurrency will take off. But perhaps the cryptocurrency will also be at the bottom of the financial crisis.

The impetus for Satoshi's original whitepaper was the behaviour of Governments during the last financial crisis. They have kept the world economy ticking over by pouring liquidity into it through quantitative easing. This has created massive amounts of public and private debt that is only sustainable at low interest rates. Now we have changed over to a long term tightening cycle for interest rates the next financial crisis is likely to be about people and governments not being able to service their debt. This always leads to printing more money and inflation like we saw during the 1970's. Unlike the 70's however people will have the choice of putting their money into a currency that can't be manipulated by governments.

If there is a global financial crisis then there won't be money for people to actually use to invest into cryptocurrencies which means that the market is going to suffer just like any other market. A global financial crisis is not good for anyone in the world and no matter how much we might want to believe that cryptos will be better in light of it, the opposite is the case

I think that it will... as long as the crash of the financial system doesn't also lead to mass power outages, loss of internet connections and anything that would prevent people from actually using crypto.

there is a very good chance that if the global financial system collapses we see at least 90% of the altcoins die within the first week and the rest of them also take a big hit to their prices as everyone cashes out to get their precious money out so that they can put it in something with a lot less risk.

don't forget that altcoins are considered super high risk investments and generally people always run away from high risk investments in face of crisis.

It is impossible to turn off electricity and the Internet, at once, on all earth. That sounds absurd.

I believe that the global financial system is too big to fail. As much as I would like to see a scenario where things are scaled back and big corporations do not control the financial system they have made themselves too integral for that to ever happen. You also have to account for the fact that if they did collapse there would be a big shortage of wealth, it would be hard for most people to transition any wealth in to crypto because they'd be so cash strapped.

The system will not collapse, at the end, most of the debt will be condoned in exchange for something. Anyway, in that hypothetical situation, I think people would rather invest in gold than in cryptocurrencies since they conceive them as a risky investment. In any case, it could happen that some people would invest in Bitcoin, and maybe Ethereum, but not in other coins.

that's ridiculouos. That guy was creating a non sense statement about that. Crypto will get a huge impact too caused by most of people are cashing out their money. Look at venezuela, i thought that can be the best example about for this case. It's a non sense thing to turn off the internet while at the same time more than 80% of economic system pegged on internet.

i can never understand why some people think that if fiat is doomed then cryptocurrencies (specially with the current horrible situation of altcoins) are the alternative that people would turn to!
it is a very strange thought in my opinion and is not reasonable economically speaking. i think when fiat collapses altcoins will take a bigger dive as people dump them first.

I think it would be a great opportunity to the investors that have never entered the crypto market to do so. Because BTC does not depend on any currency or fiat money. I hope if such a crisis happens, we will see another great bull run.

I see the future with cryptocurrencies as progressive as possible. I think that sooner or later we will come to this and do not need to wait for the collapse of the global financial market

Whenever the mainstream financial system begins to decline, the cryptocurrency market will be greatly affected, such as the stock market! But I think it will make the encryption drop instead of rising!
