Title: Piggy's mention notification bot
Post by: bernardos on November 19, 2018, 09:03:16 AM
Hello everyone,

I would like to test Piggy's mention notification bot > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5023605.0
After testing I am planning to write a review about it in the Croatian subforum because I think the idea behind this bot is excellent. Maybe I can do one in English as well.

My question is this: Am I allowed to register an alt account for this test?
I was planning to mention my profile bernardos with that alt account in the archival and off topic sections (in order to avoid spamming the forums) to see how fast the bot works and if all the functions work properly.
The alt account would only be used for the test and I would even send a link to it here if necessary as proof that I have not nor am I planning to use it for anything else.

I would like to know what the admins and community think about this since I dont want to break any rules.

You can have alt account, not a single one. You can own a lot of alt accounts.

18. Having multiple accounts and account sales are allowed, but account sales are discouraged.

By the way, you can pm me if you want to have a mention only. I will do it in off topic.

This is an alt for Jet Cash.

You should declare your ownership of the account by posting a neutral trust statement in the alt profile. Use your main account to post this.
Some people say that you should also make a post in the reputation thread, but I don't think many people read this. It is probably worth doing though, at least it will add an extra activity to your alt count. :)

No need to worry about the alt account, as Jet Cash (JetAid) said, just mention it in the trust page.

We had some discussions about using the bot in the Off-topic section so at the end we are using the Archive insted. The only minus of the Archive section is that you cannot moderate the threads there.
I guess if it is going to be only for testing just for a while then it's better to put in Off-topic like a self-moderated thread and delete it when finish.

Just to clarify, in case you choose to use the thread to receive your notifications, that needs to be under the Archive board before you sign up, otherwise it will not work.

In any case, you can find all the information in the main thread or is something is not clear ask.

I appreciate that, I will probably contact you so you can mention me somewhere, thanks!

@JetAid, @iasenko, @Piggy thank you for clarifying this for me.

I'm not sure why you need an alt for testing purposes.
I am using Piggy's bit and it works perfectly fine.

You can just test it with your main account and turn it off afterwards if you don't like it. It's not like you have to share any private information with the bot.

If you feel safer using an alt account for that purpose, its fairly OK, though your main account could work perfectly for it..
And you're sure allowed to have alt accounts, and it's definitely your discretion to make it public or not

As long as you/your main account/your already doesn't break any rules, then the forum is OK with them

I want to use the alt account to mention my main account, that is the reason. I dont want to mention my own profile ID from the same account that I will use with the bot.

Wow. You must have no friends ;)

Joke aside you could just ask for a mention in the official thread.

You didn't mind bothering everyone here asking that question, did you? I somehow have the feeling you were just seeking for attention ;)

Have fun testing.

@asche The 1st post explains clearly why the thread was created. There is no need to turn this into a discussion.
FYI https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5072602.0
Do you want a screenshot of the PM I sent to the bot as well?

Enjoy
