You would have to look at how many watts your Antminer s1 is pulling out of your wall a day and record it as an expense.

Then you need to calculate how much it would make to mine a specific type of coin,

The stats for Bitcoin mining is $13.00 a day, but unfortunately, the price is not consistent and will not always be $13.00 a day... It will definitely decrease since the difficulty is increasing every month.

I am also new to mining, but i am mining SHA alt coins.

What is your setup and hash speed you get and also how much profit you are making per day?

I would say you should wait a bit until the new asics come out.
It will take a long time to break even with an antminer at this stage.

Ant miner S1 is the best deal Right now.   BTC0.998 for 180ghs, Seems cheap to me.

Ant miner S1 for bitcoin mining or 3 r9 280x for scrypt coin mining, which will be the best option to begin mining?

3 R9 280x:
Price - $1200 + around $ 250 for mobo, PSU, Raisers, etc.
Power consumption - 900W ( approx )
Daily Earnings - $8 ( @ current Diff and current litecoin price )

1 Ant miner S1:
price: $650 + $100 for PSU
Power consumption - 400W Max
Daily Earnings - $13 ( @current Diff and current bitcoin price )

you have the stats, you should decide.  Good luck!

Thanks for your suggestion.

I am in big dilemma now as i have two options -

First i can buy one or two ant miners and start mining bit coin. But the hardware can mine only bit coin and as the difficulty increases it could take more time to get my ROI and soon could become obsolete.

Second, I could buy 4 or 5 r9 280x and mine most profitable scrypt coin.Though, the initail investment could be higher, but it could mine all scrypt coin base on profitability and later i could sell those GPUs in case i need an upgrade like ASIC hardware (scheduled to released in coming months) for Scrypt coins .

Any suggestion based on experience would be appreciated.

you think your GPUs will have value Even after scrypt Asics are out?  NO WAY. Hard to find gpu buyers after Asics are out, And there are not much gamers who will you wish to spend 20k on a card for gaming. So your GPUs after some months = 0 value. + The power they consume, GOD loves it. you will keep feeling good about mining earnings untill you see your first electricity bill after starting GPU mining.

Keep Clam and wait for ASICs if your intersted in scrypt based coins.  Gridseed ASICs are out already if you could catch them for worthy price, they are good for now.

This is wat the returns could be on an S1, in my case, with my electricity price and at the price I could buy one.

Bitcoin difficulty 4,250,217,920
Bitcoins per Block (BTC/block) 25.00
Conversion rate (USD/BTC) 635.13
Hash rate 180
Electricity rate (USD/kWh) 0.172558373
Power consumption (W) 360.00
Time frame (months) 3
Cost of mining hardware (USD) 542.00
Profitability decline per year 0.61

Results
Difficulty   4,250,217,920.00
Mining Factor 100   0.01 USD/24h@100MHash/s as in these charts
Average generation time for a block (solo)   3 years, 78 days (can vary greatly depending on your luck)
Hardware break even   47 days
Net profit first time frame   483.82 USD
Coins per 24h at these conditions   0.0213 BTC
Power cost per 24h   1.49 USD
Revenue per day   13.53 USD
Less power costs   12.04 USD
System efficiency   500.00 MH/s/W
Mining Factor 100 at the end of the time frame   0.01 USD/24h@100MHash/s
Average Mining Factor 100   0.01 USD/24h@100MHash/s
Power cost per time frame   136.14 USD
Revenue per time frame   1161.96 USD
Less power costs   1025.82 USD

calculated on : http://www.bitcoinx.com/profit/

Anyhow, I'm not going to mine SHA but I did start cloud mining on http://pbmining.com where I bought 25MH/s that cost me around 140$

But I am going to mine Script with the use of the new Gridseed dualminers
