Title: December 2018: Is this a good time to enter bitcoin if you have cash?
Post by: BTCgrinders.com on December 04, 2018, 04:09:07 AM
The bitcoin price index is now 1.000000 XBT = 3,836.92 USD

~1 year ago the price was 1.000000 XBT = 19,916.37 USD

The current price is 19.3% of the previous all-time-high.

Yes, I believe so but I could be completely wrong.

My expectation is for a low of no lower than $2,500 but we could have already hit our lowest low since the last ATH.
I also expect another pump in the future to again dwarf the last ATH as had happened many times over so for me the prospect of how much to be lost from here is tiny in comparison to what could be gained.

I'm not selling and am more confident in putting more into BTC now than ever.

there is no way to answer your poll question, it can be any $$$ from the bottom.

the only thing that we know is that the current price is near the bottom price that can ever be reached at this point so buying now means you are buying close to the bottom. it may go a little lower but also it may not. but you can know it will go back up again unless of course you think bitcoin is dead in which case you shouldn't even be  here!

No it's not the right time, just wait for a $1 bitcoin price and then buy a few hundred or a thousand bitcoins. ;D
I'm just kidding, but all those "is it time to buy btc" forum posts are kinda annoying.Op,nobody is going to give you the answer.Nobody knows what will happen. You either just believe in bitcoin or you don't.
Just don't seek external validation for your insecurity.

It depends on how much you real price Bitcoin in your mind.
If you think the price of Bitcoin is $1, then it is definitely not a good time now.
Everyone’s pricing for Bitcoin is different, so this question cannot be answered.

Though we have different views of the market but i think your analysis make a point!  Bitcoin is really in a  bad condition now compared to were it was as at December last year.  I think the bottom is not here and we may need to get to next year before we see the bottom.  Cryptocurrencies market is really getting to the level which many people did not expect including me.  Investing into cryptocurrencies market now is becoming too risky by the day and I think the bottom is not here yet.

Many of us here are speculators and that is why there is always a warning that before you put money into the market do your personal analysis.  My own analysis review that the bottom is around $3000 base on my MA crossing but I have come across many other speculations that have different views.

OP you are asking the right question.

A lot of doom prophets is a good sign.
Increasing infrastructure is a good sign.
Tech is still solid.
More crypto related jobs is a good sign

The question is "Do you believe in Bitcoin?"

We have really crushed hard. I think this thing we're experiencing is what happened to some people sometime ago.
Nevertheless, I still don't believe this is the end yet. So there's still more room for investment.

We're experiencing the second wave of the bear season and so it's still risky buh a good time as well to hop on.

I do believe that we are near the bottom, considering upcoming developments and historical trends. BUT... In previous examples the bottom was reached and the price then remained around there for some time before recovering. Therefore I don't suspect there will be a sharp recovery. If you have alternative investments for the next 6 months or so that can offer a good return, I think BTC price could be the same then as it is now.

There's never a need to enter at one particular time. Better to pace your buys over a few weeks or months. My own willy is telling me Jan/Feb is when we might hit the gutter.

Obviously if you're a believer now is still an OK time since it's 80% down.

Yeah i fully agree with you. Its been almost 10 years of existence so  by this time investors should have been used to this bear bull bear bull season or  Risks.  Consider this bear season as an oppotune time to increase our  crypto investment.

Good time to buy bitcoin now, yes. The next halving is in mid 2020 so we’ll likely approach or exceed the last ATH within 2-3 years. If you have patience then buying now is a great idea.

It is nice to hear that from an Hero member, which gives me more confident.
Too many people are bearish since Bitcoin price went below 6000 USD.
I think that is good time to start buying, or if you want take more risk, start buying at 3000 USD and below if price drops to that level this year.

While you have cash to burn.. sure buy away.  Just remember not to sell if the price goes down, just buy more.   Don't go all in, spreading out your buys over a longer period of time, is the best advice.  Buy in small increments and average your price in.   It's impossible to time the bottom.

You never lose if you don't sell below your buy in price.

Probably a false statement but you can only go down $4k and the upward potential is $16k.
Buying on the way down might be a good approach instead of getting caught out whilst waiting.

Now and all 2019 will be perfect time to buy Bitcoin. 5 years from now will not matter if you bought at $4000 or at $2000 or at $8000. All these numbers will look totally the same.

That's potentially 4x the return for the same outlay in USD if you time it right. That's what causes people to wait for bottoms that never come. Better to hedge your bets with averaging the cost where you can and extinguish the minor what ifs compared to not grabbing the big one by not buying at all.

I'm certain there'll be people who buy nothing because of that who'll screech about it down the line.

It is never a good time to go all in on any investment at any given time.

If you have some cash that is big enough to divide into couple pieces the smartest move would be investing only a part of it right now and watch what happens.

If a person invested all of his investments at 20 thousand dollars he would be so much in trouble right now however if he invested a bit at 20 and a bit at 10 and a bit at 6 he would have had some middle ground there and if that person kept investing at 6 and even continued to this day at 4 right now he would move so much further away from 20 thousand dollar times.

Hence, even if it looks like it is 4 thousand dollars and everything is going great, do not put all your money there all at the same time. Just invest a bit more and wait around, I think January is looking great.

"buying on the way down" is very misleading in my opinion. we have drops and then we have dumps. and both are the same "going down" but you should never buy during a drop (like when a bubble is bursting and price is dropping or some altcoin is getting dumped) while you can buy during a dump (like when price suddenly drops to weird prices like now out of nowhere and because of manipulation).

They like to stand around and be caught with their willies in their hands. While timing the bottom perfect might generate the most profit it's not the best strategy because it's impossible to predict accurately. Therefore timing well and spreading your buys means a good average cost and guarantees you actually buy some bitcoin before the next bull run begins.

When you can put cash into bitcoin should be when you are ready to buy and hold until it showing significant progress. I believe that cryptocurrencies market has a very good return for those that are ready to put in good money for long term purposes. Remember that investments into cryptocurrencies market come with risk and you should not put in money without knowing how risky it is to invest now.

uhhh the upward potential is many times that amount. $16k was the past. That's like telling someone in 2015 the upward potential is $900.

Exactly. That's why I'm buying now so I know I picked up some in the 3000s, no matter what happens in the future. I'll be buying a ton in January and February, and I'll continue buying some each month in the Spring. Cost average out the whole bottom of the market. I don't expect to get within a few hundred dollars with any of my buys, but what I am looking to do is buy a ton of Bitcoin hopefully averaging under 4000 or at least under 5000, which a month ago I didn't even think I'd ever be able to buy this low again.

Hoping for a certain low price to go all in is hoping to get lucky (that it goes that low and that it's near the bottom). No doubt plenty of people have low points to buy in that won't be hit and they'll miss the bottom entirely.

As the saying goes: the best time to invest was yesterday, the second-best time is today.

You shouldn't try to outsmart the market by buying at the lowest point if you're aiming for investment income. Sure, if you want to become a day-trader then you might be able to do this kind of playing the market after years of study and practice. But if you're in it for the long run, it doesn't matter whether you buy today, yesterday, or a year ago. Just don't wait until tomorrow ;)

I said 3800 is within $1000 of the bottom. I think I drop below 3000 is possible, but wouldn't last long. I think 3000s will end up the bottom and we'll be hanging around 3000s and 4000s for the most part until mid-2019

So as per your view, then it is a good time to start buying. but i think first the market will test the $3000 level and if it is broken then the next bottom no one knows it as the market will come in panic mode and how much low it will go no one knows it. So i think if you are thinking of investing then right now only buy 20% of you investment and wait for another dip and then buy same way so your buying price will be averaged.

It might not dip lower, you never know. I think the best way is to buy now, then just gradually buy (like as much as you can from each paycheck over the coming months) because you never know when the lowest price has come, so rather than wait for dips just buy a bit every week or something. I'm perfectly happy with <$4k so I've bought a bunch the past two weeks and I'll continue buying for another week or two, just to make sure no matter what happens I've bought some under $4k. Then I'll resume buying a bunch more the first few months of 2019.

So, you are telling him to split his investment into smaller parts? Well, this could work out. Since, you are investing lower amount, you are risking less and have more risk control compared to going all in. But, do keep in mind that, the lower your risk, the lower is the profit. If you want to make higher profit, then you will have to go all in and deal with the high risk that comes along. Either way, you are gambling with your investment and it is up to you how much you are willing to risk.

We all have our own strategies and techniques, whether investing with high or low amounts, diversification or the other way around. All of this gives profit, difference is the amount of the profit. I, for example have decided to invest but only in low amount because even if I believe that bitcoin will rise again, I still mind seeing my money getting stock up for months. I can't consider my source of income as a stable job so I only stock small chunks of meat in the freezer. There is no certainty that bitcoin will rise again this month or early next year and that it will pump gain so there really is too many factors to consider before investing.

So sad that most of the crypto users are not buying this 80% off from the last year price of $19k. This is maybe many are already leave the crypto currency investments in dismay or people are afraid to join this investments because they might thinking Bitcoin is dying therefore there is no timeline for buying it cheap as the price of Bitcoin is already affordable to purchase.

Depends on your guts but if I were in your situation i'll wait a little more but this price is good to enter already. It's just, I think the fall isn't done yet but of course I could be wrong. The price seems good, if the price fall after you bought, you might wait a little longer but no worries for sure we will have a rise soon.

Lol. For those expressing disappointment of not being given a chance to buy btc during it's early days, well this is your chance 🤣 though it's not bad to observe a little more since most indicators point to further bottoms for this year. That's cheaper coins for you.

~1 year ago the price was 1.000000 XBT = 19,916.37 USD

The current price is 19.3% of the previous all-time-high.
Like always there is not a definitive answer to that, if you are able to hold your coins despite the adversity that may come then buying bitcoin at the current prices can be one of the best decisions that you can take in your life, but if you do not have that it is entirely possible that you are going to lose money despite the low price that we are seeing, in that case it will be better for you to not invest in bitcoin.

If you want to enter and buy bitcoin, maybe now is the right time. That's because prices have gone down very far, don't wait for prices to fall again because if at any time prices go up you will lose the opportunity. It's better to immediately buy later if the price drops again to buy again. I am sure that next year prices will recover and continue to rise.

Ofcourse yes, this opportunity will never come again if the value goes up and a lot of them will miss the chance if they don't buy coins in cheap prices now. If the price soars up then a big margin is waiting for you.

$100 of bottom   - 0 (0%)
$500 of bottom   - 1 (6.3%)
$1000 of bottom   - 4 (25%)
$2000 of bottom   - 6 (37.5%)
$3000 of bottom   - 4 (25%)
$5000 (it's going to 0)   - 1 (6.3%)

This is the current results of the poll. Of 16 votes, the majority believes bitcoin will hit the bottom of ~1800. At the time of polling, the price of btc was $3800. It's interesting that not one person believe the price of btc was near the bottom at $3800.

The past month has been very despair-inducing so that's not surprising. After a year where was price was already down 70%, price dropped in half again and now lots of miners are shutting down. These definitely feel like pretty dark days so everyone is losing hope.

Fortunately, "it's darkest before dawn" usually applies to markets pretty well and this is a necessary part of the process. When everyone has sold because they expect lower, we've already hit the bottom.

This. We need a lot of people who's willing to take (calculated) risk to give them a huge windfall in 2-3 years time. So I would definitely say that this is a good time to enter and purchase cheap bitcoins. Remember that we won't see a market in the bears for so long.

There will be a time that it will suddenly make a reversal and we would like to the person who will make a lot of profits when that time come.

But those that take the risk of buying cryptocurrencies at the current prices need to be completely sure about what they are doing, if the price went immediately up after they bought then it is going to be very easy for them to hold their coins but if the price keeps going down after they buy they are going to be assaulted by all kind of doubts about their decision and many will sell for an even lower price.

Yes you are right, if the price pumps everyone who are planning to invest in BTC will lose the opportunity. A lot of people are still waiting to see downfall and want to buy for more cheaper yes this is true, one of my friend has idea to buy BTC but he says the may go down and let's wait for few more days. One thing for sure in cryptocurrency is anything can happen over a night.

The down fall into half in last 2 weeks felt like never before as prices around $6.5k levels seemed reasonable for most people. When $6.5k zone was sustainable for months then the current level must be a temporary one and most probably markets may bounce back to it sustaining zones at any time. Miners will join back for sure as they are true business people and they will do their business where they could find their big profits. So, this is time to enter or to buy more. No doubts.

Fortunately, "it's darkest before dawn" usually applies to markets pretty well and this is a necessary part of the process. When everyone has sold because they expect lower, we've already hit the bottom.
Yes, this is the darkest zone in last 2 years and it will move away faster than we could imagine. ETF news may become a savior. Let's hope for best things to happen.

Depends on how much cash you have too, doesn't it? I mean if you have 100 dollars it doesn't really worth getting into bitcoin between the purchasing and transactions and so forth you will end up with 90 dollars maybe even less, we talk about how amazing bitcoin transactions are compared to other methods but that doesn't really scale back a lot is it.

I mean if you can send a million dollars with 30 dollars fee that is amazing but if you send 100 dollars with 10 dollar fee that's horrible. Not that everything costs like that but when you are dealing with a third world country local exchange the fee for deposit and withdrawal gets to those amounts. Aside from that if you have a lot of cash in hand (anything over a thousand dollars would be fine) than it is a great time to join in.

even if you dont have a cash or capital to start with , you can still enter the bitcoin and crypto scene in the form of working thru different activities such as working thru forum ( e.g bounties , signature campaign , etc ) or working on other free lancing jobs  . there were too many way to earn a crypto even witout a cash but all you need to do is invest your own precious time  and hardwork .  2018 isnt also the year for cryptos because even at all times , you can always start to join as long as you are verry willing to learn and earn  .

yet it is still better to start early as possible  because cryptos can potentially pump and skyrocket at unexpected times without prior notice  .

Hey if it bottoms out at 2.5k and you bought in at 3.2k, it's not a bad deal. The price isn't going to stay at these lower levels you know. You just have to make sure that the amount you'll use is something you can hold onto for some time.

I still remember the moment when majority of the investors is forking out their hard earn savings to purchase bitcoin when its price was almost $20,000 USD per bitcoin during the month of December in year 2017, but it seems that the interest to buy bitcoin at the moment is extremely low for investors despite the low price of around $3200 USD per bitcoin. Since it is extremely hard to predict the bottom for bitcoin price, I guess most investors are not willing to risk their money to purchase bitcoin anymore for now.

If early this morning you bought 1 BTC at $3,100 USD, you shuld have earned at least 9% by now since BTC is now being traded at $3,400 USD. So for those who are asking if its still a good time to buy Bitcoin, yes it is and there's still opportunity to earn if you enter at the right moment and exit or sell at the right time. You need to observe and learn how charts works and listen to those who are in this industry for a long time already.

If you dont have some crypto in your wallet than you are crazy. If you have only cash its like you are living in the past, open your eyes, look at the future, we will need to have some crypto in our wallets. Cash count last years, its question how much it will survive, in some progressive countries that will happen in next maximum 5 years, other countries later, but all countries will be crypto once.
Who doesn`t believe in that have a problem with understanding reality, and where are we going. Digital future is already here, with years everything will be more digital, everything will be crypto.

I would say that it is right time. We can see that in last 20, 24 hours bitcoin price jumped from 32xx to 35xx in its price, it's on 8% growth so we could assume that the moment is right. On the other hand we have also seen that it could easily  go down in a matter of hours. Maybe the best tactic is to buy and if it start to go down, sell and wait for another so called good moment.

for now it's better to play in the short term. when you have heard there is good news that will appear in the long term in the future. you can start buying and holding. for now it seems better to just be short term. find the right time to buy and sell directly when you're profit

It's risky but still it's good time. The price is relatively low, hope that lower will not go so if you have extra cash it's good to invest. In some point of time the price will recover so if you really don't need that funds and have enough patience it would be good decision to put it into Bitcoin.
But since the market is changing very quickly you should be prepared to spend a lot of time for monitoring and to be prepared for fast action.

We are now experiencing a minor pump where bitcoin reached $3800 and this price from $3800 to $4000 will serve as a wall. Most investors are seeking for this pump for a long time now so we can always expect a sell from these price and found it an opportunity if they buy bitcoin at its lowest price. This sudden and temporary pump gave me doubt if i will enter or not. Some are expecting bitcoin to go down at $2500 so i might say that this is not the good time to enter.

Keyword here is probably "if you have cash". Prices are currently very low even after the small rebound up to $4k, and I think that there is pretty much very little chance that we're heading much further down from this level.

We could potentially dip a bit under $3k, but below that, there will be a lot of buying pressure for prices to stay that low for much longer.

Having said that, there is every possibility for short term anomalies to happen within the market. This is why I wouldn't recommend entering long positions with leverage, buying bitcoin derivatives without knowing what you are doing, or potentially even going into debt to buy bitcoins. Only buy if you have cash on hand, and if you are willing to hold your position for the long term. In that case, you'll find that $3-4k is very low in the macro scheme of things.

Personally, I think its good Idea to enter bitcoin if you have cash in december 2018 because you can buy more bitcoin and hold or invest it while the price is very low. Its our strategy how we handle this kind of things. But before they enter bitcoin make sure they know or background check how if works and they have also an idea what is bitcoin all about.

If I had extra cash that I don't need I would buy Bitcoins. The price is cheap now but there is also possibility for further dump. Still this red situation on the market will not last forever and the market will recover so I wouldn't wait too long. Buying now is investment for the future and opportunity for new investors to come to the market and this will be good for everyone.

the biggest opportunity to put our money into bitcoin can be done now, because the movement of the price of bitcoin continues to decline to reach around $ 3,000. but before deciding to invest in bitcoin we must be able to understand the risks to be faced because bitcoin price movements are very fluctuating, we can lose the money we invest in bitcoin because bitcoin price movements cannot be accurately predicted by anyone. but if we choose bitcoin to be used as a long-term investment asset, there is a possibility that in the future market price movements can surge higher than now and we can get a bigger profit

If you are in doubt, its good that you don’t invest and stay away from the market for now because if you are not confident in investing, you might sold it when you incur some loses.

IMO, investing right now is really fine as long you are ready to take risk go buy more good coins. Many investors believes that 2019 will be the pumping years of cryptocurrency, let’s believe on that too.

Just set aside a cash or fund that you are prepared to lose when you are investing in a cryptocurrency like bitcoin. This kind of investment is always risky and if you are not yet prepared for this then educate yourself first on cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin stays below $4000 and still good to buy, many believes that the coin will further go down this year before pumping again.

December 2017 was a good time to sell Bitcoin if you are holding some at that time when Bitcoin reached its all time high. December 2018 is a good way to start over again if you still want to hold coins and sell when it reach another all time high. There are upcoming events that might hurt Bitcoin price again like the upcoming Chinese lunar new year where usually, price of BTC goes down before the event.

Consensus believe bitcoin will test $1200. This is as bearish as the board has been in the last 6 years.

I'd hardly call 4 people out of a total of 6 people who bothered to vote this poll a board consensus.

That's why its called a poll because we can choose up on our insights and majority of them voted for $2000 price bottom which didn't eventually happen on December 2018. We are
already on 2019 and price is tanking on 3000 above price but well its still not a sure thing if we can go below again or would just tank until the price would gradual increase on next months. No one knows.

That is correct, newbies have tendency though to buy 1 bitcoin in a hurry. There is a proven method that you can purchase in small amounts and gradually increase and you would not noticed that you have stash more than 1 bitcoin already. So I will say that since the price is tanking at $3-$4K, its still a good time to get in while they are still at a discount price.

The bitcoin price index is now 1.000000 XBT = 3,836.92 USD

~1 year ago the price was 1.000000 XBT = 19,916.37 USD

The current price is 19.3% of the previous all-time-high.

Price of bitcoin has not changed over the last 40 days. Sentiment has been low based on polls and opinions of bulls.

Price of bitcoin has not changed over the last 40 days. Sentiment has been low based on polls and opinions of bulls.

It's because there's not enough volume, meaning just the same people playing around the market, either shorting or just long term holders or even speculators who uses bot to trigger another sell-off just like we witnessed in the last 48 hours.

So there's no fresh blood to pump the market and unless we hear some good news to come this month, we might see the price trading sideways or worst going to the lower lows or the edge of $3K.

If you bought bitcoin in the year of 2018 December you can get some profit last few days because bitcoin became $4000 again but the value of it decrease and now is $3600 again and don't be worry about that . You can enter bitcoin finally this year 2019 because it will be better the value compared last year 2018 when the whole year always decreasing the value. There is no need for you to think more just invest now your extra money.

Well that's something to expect since people have other priorities when it's holiday season. The price last december definitely would be a good time to take stocks but it's also giving time so many people don't have that much to spare.

Indeed it was a good time to enter 5 months ago in December. Interestingly in the poll several voters believed that bitcoin would hit as low as $1200. Is that still possible? Yes, but will it go that low. Will there be enough fear and when? Where would the buyers enter if it could go below $2000?

All questions I'm sure we think about a lot.
