Title: Theymos hope you take this advice. Thanks for reading!
Post by: cryptoaddictchie on December 10, 2018, 05:17:48 PM
Hello, I am wondering if we could adopt this section from altcointalks forum whereas, subsection for different major altcoins are segregated and have their own thread and discussion. (Adopting doesn't necessary means copying ) I know their discussion there is about altcoins but we have also this section in bitcointalk forum which I think lack an upgrade. Below will be the verdict of my suggestion.

Source: screenshot from altcointalks forum

PROS:

- Clean discussion for each major altcoin thread (Top 10 to 15 projects aside from Bitcoin)

- Will probably reduce discussions on altcoin thread (Also, we can move those topics from altcointalk discussions that are related to those altcoins not all archive which doesn't visit by most members here)

CONS:

- Will be another spam thread for bounty hunters. (But we can do the same like on Ivory Tower thread that no signature bearer allowed and must have high ranking account)

- Needed additional moderators to handle it. (Probably)

- Maybe lots of work on technical side to do this. (I'm not sure)

Are you encourage for spamming? Although this is bitcoin forum but Altcoin discussion board is here. I don't think we need a sub-board for each coin. How many sub-board will create ? Currently there is not enough moderator here. Then it will be more hard to prevent spam. Every coin team can post their own thread on Alternate cryptocurrencies board. So why we need a sub-board for each coin? Then everyone will busy to promote their coin.

- Needed additional moderators to handle it. (Probably)
We don't have moderator each sub-board now. So no way create new board.

Who determines the top 10-15 and how?

You mean they get their own sub board not thread? I've suggested something similar in the past as a way to eradicate paid bumping. Basically the Alt Coin section would be scrapped as is and Alt Coins have to pay a fee to get their own section in there. Would put a stop to people paying users to spam bump their topic to keep it at the top as it would be useless then.

I think we can refer to CMC list as good reference.

CMC changes every month. Top10 coins now are very different from 1 year ago.
Dash Omisego iota Litecoin monero and many others were top10 last year... And are not anymore.

Of course they did, according to the name of their forum. and you know that ...
(this is BitcoinTalk).
they have adopted most of the contents of this forum, and may not be otherwise.

Adding major altcoins board specifically? Satoshi will be hurt.

If you're an investors and want to read something about your interested coin, isn't it good that there will be a specific discussion on that project?
easy solution... that investor can go check the forum you mentioned :P
this forum concentrates on any bitcoin related discussions, altcoin stuff here are just extras
your suggestion is reasonably good but it would just add more works and problems for theymos and mods

Your suggestion will simply place so much emphasis on Altcoins, on Bitcointalk forum, doesnt sound so cool to me.
Every Altcoin discussion should remain in the Altcoin board, our main focus on this forum is the bitcoin(discussions),every other thing or coin comes secondary.
(But we can do the same like on Ivory Tower thread that no signature bearer allowed
You're on a signature, and perhaps this be implemented, youre already disqualified from posting or partaking in the sections you fought for ;D

If they are willing to pay on bumping services then they would be willing to pay for their own sections. Especially, because it appears more prestigious, and sort of like its endorsed by the forum, because it has its own little section. I don't think implementing something like this would do anything. Reducing who can bump threads would though, but that's a rather large restriction that theymos will likely be against.

Only issue is all the new shiny shitty scamming icos with big bags of mugs bitcoins will afford the top slots.

The older decentralised projects where the devs work on shoe strings because it was distributed in a trustless transparent way like POW will not have funds to pay.

This favours the worst of the bunch.

Let's if we give alts their own sub forums have the ones that have produced something other than a expensive piece of white paper that is good only for wiping your ass with.

I don't think it would take much to create criteria for alts to pass to gain their own sub forum. Money though should not guarantee greater advantage because bitscammingponzi whatever it was called that loans one that went bang and the cops were after them would have paid for a top spot.

Easy - Top 10-15 is is decided based on the biggest market cap manipulation, best moon and lambo memes, most ingenious premine and newbie sockpuppet account votes.

Your suggestion will be a dead end decision if adhered to as many bounty hunters will not find such a section lucrative to post in if posts won't count there. Also, apart from encouraging spammer it makes it boring such threads. I have seen such in different fora and I can't even say I have commented on any. But I do post regularly in the Altcoins section here.

Well that was also one of my reasonings. They're already spending a hell of a lot of money for these bumping services and they're ones that also damage the usability of the board, so they need to be stopped. I think a lot of ICOs would also prefer their own sub boards so would gladly pay a fee. Many of them create their own forums but they're usually dead, but at least here you already have access to a large userbase and would probably give the ICOs a bit more respectability with a bitcointalk.org/shitcoinabc url they could use. We could even let them self-moderate their own boards so staff don't have to waste time with it, but regardless the spam will be quarantined in their own little sections so it's probably something staff won't have to deal with, or at least let them spam away in their own squalor.

I don't think implementing something like this would do anything. Reducing who can bump threads would though, but that's a rather large restriction that theymos will likely be against.

It's not really restricting anyone. It doesn't stop people from posting in the thread, it just stops it from being bumped. I don't think people saying "good project" or "airdrop?" should bump the thread to the top and it's because it does that has lead to the abuse on an industrial scale. The thread being bumped once a day should be enough and active threads will still remain at the top, but something really needs to be done about this sort of spam and these are two of the only ways that I think will work effectively without causing too much damage.

We don't have moderator each sub-board now. So no way create new board.

The mods on the alt boards are actually really fast and really good moderators and I thi

I was reporting posts yesterday on the patrol tab and it’s one of the first times my patrol page got a lot smaller when I reloaded it because of how well they did at moderating.

I’d like to get rid of bounties but I don’t think that’s going to happen sadly (maybe I’ll just have to join a few instead or something... If you can’t beet ‘em).

@welsh, that restriction also limits newbie devs that have stuff to add, maybe they badly programmed their shitcoin or their server  much of an intelligent response to I had to leave it and now I post on serious or ivory instead. got hacked because they’re stupid and can’t work it out so they have to post publicly to ensure people verify wallet signatures and other stuff... That being said, I made a thread on the alts section and it never got much of an intelligent response so I have since meved to serious and Ivory, there are still some points where I’d like the input of hardcore altcoiners there’s just too many unintelligent spammers for me...

At the moment the Altcoin Discussion section is completely lost to spam. I've been meaning to try, and actively report there to try, and save the section however, I haven't got around to that yet. It would be nice if we had a Technical Support in the Altcoin section too. There's just so many threads which could be categorized better for a more efficient viewing of the section, but currently we are stuck with all kinds of posts related to altcoins in the discussion section.

I think the Idea of OP will make the forum more complicated as their are so many altcoins that it will create a jam in that section of creating a sub for each coin. What is running now is very good way. Only thing is we have to clear some threads which are creating lot of bumps and spam

If you want to get some actual serious discussion on altcoin-related threads, it might be better to just post them in the altcoin service discussion boards, if applicable.
That's somewhat of a workaround I've found.

Aside from that, I think it would be more useful to focus on reporting spamming users than to just report threads.
Most of the spammers there have post histories that would be eligible for a ban, I think.

Since the implementation of the Jr member merit requirement I can delete most of the users replies as the majority of users are Newbies. However, there are several high ranked members breaking the rules constantly over there too. I think the section lacks a few categories which would help organize it better as there is currently a vast amount of subjects which fit into a generic section. That, and the amount of users that are posting there makes it difficult to manage, and view.

I was thinking about it.
Tether just hit rank 5 in CMC.

Tether would have its own session based on this metric lol

Crazy times we live in...

Pros:

It can be a good spamming thread segregation.
It is now easier for the spammers to know there niche. (Eg. Today this spammer wants to swarmed up the eth section then its an easy job for him to do so)
Users who doesnt want to read spamming in eth section can now choose to go to other spamming alt section (eg. Spamming is much better in the xrp section)

Cons

It is still a room for spamming in a nicer way tho hmm
