Title: Is there a service that can help me brute force my password?
Post by: bittestcoin on December 11, 2018, 12:31:44 AM
Hello

I have recently forgot the password to my bitcoin wallet. The problem is I have only my wallet ID but I have a fair idea what the password could be.

Will happily give 15% of whats in the wallet.

If you don't have your private keys you might be SOL.

Please fill in this form:

1. What is the maximum length of the password:
2. In how much time do you need it

Just to be clear, this is the password not the private keys, if you don't then you might be SOL as per previous post.

I only know this guy (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=130960) that have good reputation if you want recovery services, his site are attached to his profile, as long as you give the hint about your password.
if you mean brute force from 0 without anything, then you need a lot of time, especially if you have long password, it can probably take a year or probably 100 years or probably more, which is impossible for now.

Yup. This bloke - https://walletrecoveryservices.com does it for 20% of what's recovered. He's been doing it for a long time now.

There are also password cracking programs you can get that'll do it for you. As long as you have a decent enough idea of what the password is both options should come up with something.

There's open source software available on Github: https://github.com/gurnec/btcrecover

Check the code yourself, and verify that its safe to use as I haven't looked at it for a while. But, it has worked in the past. If you aren't familiar with the software or cracking passwords that you already know parts of then you can get someone to do it who you trust. I think its Dave at walletrecoveryservices, and he has been doing it a number of years, and I've never heard anything bad.

Do note though, if you don't know any of the password, and its over a certain length it would be pointless even trying. However, if you know parts (ideally the majority) of the password then you might be in luck, and either you can find it yourself or you can contact Dave. If you think its a simple typo then most btcrecoer has that built in. Dave would likely be the person to contact if you needed this done quick as hes going to be more efficient than yourself as hes familiar with the process.

I have only my wallet ID

what do you mean by "wallet ID"? is it from a web wallet such as blockchain.com(.info)?
if that is the case then the password can not be brute forced, you need to contact their support and figure out what recovery methods they offer you.

There are number of services that can help you make your password complicated but to be the best way to protect your wallet and your device in general is to adopt 2fa authenticator

Yea, I think he has a wallet on Blockchain.info. They ussually email the Wallet ID to you, when you want to login to your wallet. Their security is very complicated and they do not store any private keys on their system.

Try using this, https://login.blockchain.com/wallet/forgot-password if you are using Blockchain.info (com) - I hope you wrote down your 12 word recovery phrase.  ;)

I don't know, you should write your password on paper or keep it in notepad so you don't forget. in myetherwallet, I think if I forget my password it will be a disaster because I don't know how to restore the forgotten password.

I am hoping to find my wallet password as well as the number which I think starts with a "5" and is the wallet's registered number.  I do know the Bitcoin address which starts with "1DUD" and ends with "VW" is mine.  It is here on the blockchain, Block 9
from January 12th, 2009. (2009-01-12 06:02:13)

Thanks for any help getting my ten Bitcoins out.

I agree to that it still depends on the complexity of the password, if it is an easy one without those special characters it will only takes weeks but if there are they will charge you more, but if the wallet has a huge amount then go for it, but since you had your private key is not possible to transfer to a new wallet.
