Title: Do you prefer Centralized or Decentralized Exchanges?
Post by: cryptowisser on December 11, 2018, 02:33:12 PM
We have just written a blog post on a few of the advantages and disadvantages of centralized and decentralized exchanges:
https://www.cryptowisser.com/centralized-exchanges-vs-decentralized-exchanges/

Do you agree with the conclusions?

Do you prefer centralized or decentralized exchanges?

Happy to hear your thoughts!

All the best,

In practical application there are alot of DEX that have close to zero liquidity. There are a few exceptions. But for me (as a trader) they are too rigid. It's a cash market only. No leverage, no going short, wide, wide spreads.
And there are about 10 squillion of them.
I am the founder of a token that invests in blockchain start-ups and there was a while there where I was getting notices of 3 ICOs a day, all stating they were the first DEX with one of about 3 features.
It's a huge waste of talent and energy.

I see that you've written an article about this. I will read it with interest. I want to see your viewpoint!

The decentralized exchanges are kept users privacy and anonymity. Users don't have to verify KYC documents and no limits. But the decentralized exchanges are not popular right now. Because the decentralized exchanges have not good enough volume to trade. I personally believe the decentralized exchanges has a good future.

Centralized exchanges are exchanges where there are regulations in place to guide the exchange this exchanges are own by organisation while in decentralized exchanges regulations don't exist although centralized are more popular the advantage of decentralised exchange might be more

My preference would have been the decentralized exchanges due to their lack or restrictions, no need to sign up, no need to wait for several months in order to trade your tokens and a lot of centralized exchanges are mostly filled with bot trading with fake volumes and numerous manipulations, but on the cons side the decentralized exchanges have close to zero volume and provides no liquidity for tokens.

@OP, this thread is in the wrong section, I think it should belong to trading discussion

Really i don't have a prefference, but i use most of time centralized exchanges and only a few times i used decentralized exchanges. At least for me the centralized exchanges was way more faster then centralized, or maybe i just didn't find a fast one.

The general public won't trust decentralized exchange that's why centralized exchange are gaining momentum over decentralized ones. Blockchain enthusiasts mostly are the ones welcoming the decentralized exchange system which is more secure and supports the true vision of blockchain that's why even binance is developing theirs and to gain global adoption decentralised exchanges are the answer. But until scam decentralized exchange can be eliminated, i suggest the best choice is centralized exchange and if reliable/trustworthy companies can embrace the decentralized exchange system and develop theirs only then can I encourage it's usage by the masses.

I'd rather use a DEX, but for the moment they have minimal liquidity so not much people is using them.

I hope it'll change soon

Kinda depends on what your goal/user case is. The blanket statement on one or the other is a bit vague as they offer different services in some cases.

For example, if you are looking for alt to alt trades then a DEX is useful.

If you are looking to cash out to fiat then you need to go with a centralised exchange.

We have just written a blog post on a few of the advantages and disadvantages of centralized and decentralized exchanges:

I think its really important topic to take and talk through. Why? Because people don't understand dcentralized exchanges. They have problem understanding bitcoin, and most similiar to FIAT trading is actually crypto centralized exchange. Its easy for them.
Personally i don't fully understand decentralized exchange yet, must understand this topic more.

For my trades I mostly use decentralized exchange because of huge volume of coins/tokens but I prefer to use a dex for many reasons but it seems you cant trade easily on dex as theres no enough liquidity on new tokens but in the long term of course I hope theres a huge advantage using a dex exchange.

As far as i know, decentralised exchange are mostly have low liquidity rather than centralised. The best decentralized exchange in my opinion is only IDEX. But i'm prefer centralised exchange such as Bittrex, Kucoin, dll rather than IDEX.

both exchanges are not good for me because the team could get their deposits in centralized exchange which results to fluctuate market price of their crypto. in decentralized also the only one to set the market price is the exchange. The problem is that if the crypto has no good community to support the project then you could nkt see any good demand or even you could not see a demand for.that crypto.

It depends a lot on Liquidity and a lot of other factors. But decentralized Exchange do have more advantages!

The best decentralized exchange in my opinion is only IDEX.
I barely remember it but I have read an article that says IDEX isn't fully decentralized. But I did trade there few times and I never experienced any glitch or problems that made me trigger of stopping me to use them.

But i'm prefer centralised exchange such as Bittrex, Kucoin, dll rather than IDEX.
Many do prefer centralized exchange I think such as Binance too.

Though I have no clear idea usually I use centralize exchange where I can find better rules and regulation and it seems to be safe and sound. Decentralized exchange can keep secret the information of users but I think the centralized exchange is better than decentralized exchange.

I prefer decentralized exchanges to centralized ones.  With the decentralized ones,  data is not stored on a specific server so information cannot be stolen and used for a unauthorized purposes.  In addition,  no one has control over the information available too.

Either are bad, decentralized exchanges have a long way until they are fully operational and the centralized ones are being manipulated too much.
