Title: Clarifying rank rules Post by: ZafotheNinja on December 14, 2018, 03:00:20 PM Hey all, just trying to figure out how to earn ranks on this forum. As per the rules rank requires "Activity" and "Merit". Merit is given by users that have it or by "Merit Source" users.
Activity on the other hand is "activity = min(time * 14, posts)" which at first glance looks like a formula but then you notice that "min" seems like a function that doesn't do anything, there is no unit of time given and "," is not a mathematical symbol as far as I can tell. So how is activity calculated then? Thanks for your time. As per the rules rank requires "Activity" and "Merit". Merit is given by users that have it or by "Merit Source" users. Time = every activity period where you posted at least once. A period happens every 14 days and the dates are already pre-defined by the forum software.Activity on the other hand is "activity = min(time * 14, posts)" which at first glance looks like a valid formula but then you notice that there is no unit of time given and "," is not a mathematical symbol as far as I can tell. So how is activity calculated then? Thanks for your time. Min is a PHP function. The way is shown there is that your activity will be either equal to time * 14 or the number of posts you have (the one with the lower value). E.g: min(5, 10) will return 5. Title: Re: Clarifying rank rules Post by: mexxer-2 on December 14, 2018, 03:05:49 PM You can gain max 14 "activity" in a 2 week-period( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=582736.0 ) and the amount of activity depends on the number of posts you have already made.
Ex. 1) you post in 2 activity periods, you have 20 total posts. You have 20 activity in total 2) You post in 2 activity periods, you have 28 posts. You have 28 activity in total 3) You post in 2 activity periods, you have 35 posts. You have 28 activity in total Title: Re: Clarifying rank rules Post by: ZafotheNinja on December 14, 2018, 03:10:26 PM Hey all, just trying to figure out how to earn ranks on this forum. I know I haven't been around much, but it seems to me like this needs to be made clearer for new users. +1 for that link, that needs to be added to the "Newbies - Read before posting" thread. (If it isn't already and I just missed it lol) Is there any way to check the "time" (eg activity periods you posted it) you currently have? (Other than getting a bunch of posts till your activity stops climbing) Title: Re: Clarifying rank rules Post by: VB1001 on December 14, 2018, 03:53:14 PM Hey all, just trying to figure out how to earn ranks on this forum. Do not worry about the rank if you participate correctly you will see how you progress. -Try to make posts with good content. -Answer and ask with respect. -Publish a quality thread. -Answering posts with ridiculous answers is not well seen in Bitcointalk, +1, ok, etc, etc. -Help the other members of Bitcointalk as much as you can. Newbies - Read before posting https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1689727.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1689727.0) Activity update list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12saLhlUoqIdairxzuSPu6EYGrt7FN2lOstO1yDjCEbA/edit#gid=1012758442 (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12saLhlUoqIdairxzuSPu6EYGrt7FN2lOstO1yDjCEbA/edit#gid=1012758442) Activity and Merit are necessary to increase the rank. (Other than getting a bunch of posts till your activity stops climbing) There was a website that did that, but it went down a long time ago. What you can do is take a look at the table VB1001 posted above and see in which periods you posted at least once. Since you only have 18 posts, it's something easy to do. But for cases like mine (4000+ posts), it's pretty impossible without a script/tool that does that automatically.Title: Re: Clarifying rank rules Post by: Onuohakk on December 14, 2018, 06:50:00 PM OP if you stick to this advice you won't go wrong I haven't personally be bothered about how activities are gotten rather channeling that energy to contributing to this forum The activity movement is automated so once you have reached the stage to rise you automatically rise in activities but you can't rise in rank with activities alone rather you must meet the merit requirements also for every stage |
