Title: Multiple accounts plagiarized OP in Bitcoin discussion
Post by: bones261 on December 21, 2018, 03:35:41 AM
I have been branching out to review posts in Bitcoin discussion lately. I just ran into multiple topics being opened with plagiarized content from this web page. I've reported like 6 posts already and have decided to give up and watch TV. All the thread opening posts copy word for word articles from this web page. Perhaps someone more diligent can either report or a mod can play wack a mole.

Edit: Judging from the crickets, this must be quite common in Bitcoin discussion. I wonder if I should give up perusing this board to hand out merits.

Don't give up bones, there are still few of us who contribute positively to that board and would love the board to be the healthiest on forum. The forum was created mainly for bitcoin discussion so if you can get rid of more spammers and plagiarizing contents as you're doing it'll be great.

If we have a cracked nail on our fingers we won't cut those fingers we will just try to cure them same like that when we have spammers in the bitcoin discussion section don't leave that section just make it clean by reporting more posts. You may receive honorable badge also for doing that which is slightly better than being lazy and watching TV. :D

That section would need a strong dose of medicine and cured of a lot of illness before it even came close to being the healthiest.  It's so bad on Bitcoin Discussion that even the mod has probably thrown up his hands out of frustration and is likely watching TV as well.  And I don't blame him.  It's like a quadruple amputee trying to get rid of a serious cockroach infestation....in a 100-story building with no elevator and no help.

OP, if you intend on going in there again, put your gas mask on and do your best to keep reporting the plagiarism.  What Meta needs right now are more ban appeal threads, because it's been at least 15 seconds since I've seen a new one.  But on a positive note, if you do report them they WILL get banned.  That's the good news.  The bad news is that the plagiarists and spammers are like those goddamn sinusoidal-moving bats in old NES games that keep infinitely respawning.

This isn't a job for one member.  It isn't even a job for Superman.  Theymos needs to descend from the heavens and strike that section with a bolt of lightning.  I think this has been suggested before, but my memory may be failing me.  In any case, good luck pulling your hair out.  You can buy Rogaine by the case pretty cheap on eBay if you don't mind the Costco brand.

If we're talking about reporting one or two plagiarists and cheaters and then move on to meriting some quality posters, then that sounds more reasonable and something that should be worthwhile doing
But when the whole scenario is like reporting about 90% plagiarists and scrapping through loads of low content to merit the other 10%,now that's a goddamn strenous task to do and that could leave the OP@bones not watching TV for a very long time.

Yes, its really quite common practice in some of the boards like Bitcoin Discussion and you would find much of them. My advice would be just keep the good work going and one day you will be rewarded by the masters with badges.

What Meta needs right now are more ban appeal threads, because it's been at least 15 seconds since I've seen a new one.
This looks like a very positive view of you're towards this situation and I truly agree with it. And yes the Ban appeals coming every hours here indicate that the work of OP is not getting wasted anyway. ;)

I report any new topics in Bitcoin Discussion that are simply a copy and pasted article, or a link to an article, without any original thoughts or opinions. They are always deleted. If the user becomes a repeat offender, I mention this in my reports and the user is eventually banned.

The most recent user to fit this criteria was Reviewmaster1 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2393490) - I noticed he was banned just this morning. I have 17 good reports against him, and that is in keeping with the kind of ball-park figure that has been needed in the past.

I would encourage you (and everyone else for that matter) not to give up on reporting. It is repetitive, monotonous and thankless, but until theymos appoints some dedicated sub-board mods, it's all we've got.

When someone just copy and paste and article from some bitcoin related website into a new topic in Bitcoin Discussion, I usually report it like "This should move to Press section" or something similar, because in the Press, you can find these bitcoin related articles. But, somehow these topics are always deleted :)
So don't lose the hope, and report on until something happens to Bitcoin Discussion :)

Yesterday, I also reported two of those, both posts created by different users. IMO there is nothing wrong with an occasional visit there. Just don't let the negativity infest your brain (use a gas mask like @The Pharmacist suggestion).

Yes, it was from all sorts of different user names. Obviously a poorly programmed bot. What was really funny was the copy/paste included the captions under the pictures, but no pictures.
I think that I'll try visiting the board again on a future date. I have many programs on my DVR that need to be watched.

Problem is even multiple post has been deleted from single user there , they don't have any punishment. So they just continue spamming. They don't have fear of ban. Most of post just word spinning and most of topic just repeating. There is a website for spinning word and sentence even you can't imagine how they are spinning. Any software or website could not be detect them. I don't want to mention it because may be someone will use it.

However we need decent member on Bitcoin discussion board. If all decent member give up then who will cure that section. It's just not easy to clean by moderators.
