Title: People with most bitcoins should be in their 20's by now
Post by: Itty Bitty on December 21, 2018, 11:35:26 AM
Bitcoins have been over a couple of hundred dollars for more than 5 years now. Kids can only get so many by mining. Don't imagine too many teenagers have 10+ bitcoins without family help in getting them.

Bitcoin is maturing, and so are its holders.

Alts are probably a different story

Most are probably on their 30s and 40s, especially those with prior interests in cryptography and a digital cash system (Nick Szabo, Hal Finney and others, just to name a few). While the majority of those with interests in crypto are in their 20s, it's undeniable that those whales are somewhat older, due to their money and experience in the field. It'll be cool to know the demographics of bitcoin users but then again, that goes against 'privacy' and some statistics regarding age groups of bitcoin users may somewhat be unreliable.

Yes, agreed, I meant to write "at least in their 20's" in the title, it came out a little confusing as is. My bad.

I don't imagine teenagers have +1 BTC to be honest, where would they get them from?
Asking their parents to withdraw part of their savings?

Okay, they might have been able to buy some through a holiday job or whatever, but they're teenagers.
They probably spend most of that money on other stuff, like a car (in the US) or on a holiday with their friends perhaps.

Yes, this would be as opposed to 6 or 8 years ago where I imagine quite a lot of BTC was held in teen-age hands.

I'm not fully convinced about this theory. Maybe some are in 20's but I would say that the majority of most experienced Bitcoin users with most coins in their possesion are in 30's.
I don't think that so many teenagers even if they got involved in Bitcoin five or more years ago kept their coins so long or maybe just few of them. It's not so very likely to me they were mature enough to make important decisions that would make whales out of them.

The only older folks that are embracing bitcoin are the whales that are out to use their wealth to influence the entire ecosystem. The enthusiastic cryptocurrency lovers and users are the youths in their early 20s.

age is very influential from how he is able to utilize the results of bitcoin that he has, the age of earning a lot of money from bitcoin will often feel confused about what this amount of money is, while he does not have many dependents in life

I held a lot of Bitcoin in my hands around 2010-2012. Also at the time I didn't understand much about blockchain or any of it how does it work I just used it because it was a nice way of doing trading transactions without fear of it being withdrawn and being opensource it felt very secure that noone can interrupt my account or any of the trade.

I remember very well seeing price fluctuation from $10-$20 but I didn't understand a lot about it. I knew it could be mined and it felt nice sometimes when price would go few bucks up and I was happy at the time when I would get profit of $50 bucks because of price fluctuation.

Crypto trading is a real deal nowdays and majority of holders are probably around 40 or older.

Hopefully those teenagers knows how to value money and knows how to use well bitcoin. I know someone who owns some of cryptocurrency and at the very young age, he knows how to deal with life well. They spend their cryptos to support for their studies and of course to buy good things.

We should start educating those teenagers so they will not spend the money in useless things, if you will gift cryptocurrency to your child or to anyone don’t forget to teach them how to use it, so at the end of the day they will still have that money.

,that's a good use of money indeed. i have also someone i know that thinks similarly like your acquaintance, and sad to say but there are also some people i knew who doesn't value money like it should be. spending is not that really bad but it should be in moderation, some youngsters doesn't know the real value of it because they doesn't spend heavy works for it, that is also why i guess it would be doing well with the guidance of their parents or guardians.

And for those who are in their 20's? You are very lucky because crypto has so much offer and you being so young and have been in this market as early as today, you can be filthy rich by your early 30's.

So you think that kids and teens used their PCs to mine bitcoins 6-7 years ago.I don't believe this.
Kids and teenagers usually aren't that "make money" oriented. If they are, they would try to earn more fiat money, not crypto.Bitcoin isn't maturing, because 90% of the btc investors will always be people driven by FOMO and greed.

The concept behind this statement is very true and logical but I would say 30's is more accurate than 20's, but who said that person maturity is measured by age only! So let's not attach the maturity of people holding BTC to their age range.

Possibly, millennials could hold some bitcoins, from when it was relatively unpopular, before the bull run. Some could have taken bitcoin mining as a form of recreational exercise, without expecting the massive rise in popularity and value.

There would still be a fair share of different age brackets. It is not limited a particular generation.

I think the title might actually be true.

I started with bitcoin when I was 14 but by then I’d already missed all of the mining with a computer as ASICS were already out. I think a lot of people who started even a year or two before me would have been able to mine with a cpu or a gpu.

Vitalik started working on ethereum when he was 17 I think too...

I don't think teenagers are giving priority to this, most of the investors here are 30 - 40. However age is just a number, it depends on the person's interest. Crypto will enlarge the life style of a person if he plans to invest now and he's going to sell after years. Just imagine how he will be? He will be overwhelmed by happiness.

if later children can get 1 bitcoin not with their own competing results it can be with the help of others or even from the parents who buy it if the child is very clever then this becomes an asset in the future because bitcoin is not always in the price now competing for the next few years will go to the price.

The early days of crypto mostly wouldn't even appeal to teenagers, it would have been people with a strong background in cryptography or computing. I would think Vitalik will be one of few exceptions of early adopters who are not in middle age by now. The interesting thing for me with that. Most of the early adopters are aging each year and with the growth of bitcoin the temptation to spend must grow each year. Soon you'll have to assume that if their BTC goes unspent it will transcend their own lives.

Yes, I agree with you, those in their 20s are very fortunate to know crypto, because they can become experts in old age and of course there are many benefits they can achieve if they know crypto at a young age.

Teenagers are already familiar with crypto and blockchain is an extraordinary knowledge, and young age does look more aggressive to always try so that the experience makes it more creative. And the possibility is that now it has become a pope and has more experience so it is wiser to manage his Crypton assets.

I think those with the most bitcoin should be people around the age of 30s and 40s. Bitcoin is just ten years people at people that are at age  20 can hold a few but not much because they are the millennial people and are tech crazy and like experimenting with nothing to lose.

No, I don't think so. I guess bitcoin people who owned bitcoin the most are those mid 30's because it's very rare to see an adolescent who already knew about btc and bought it during its early days.

BUT I'm not saying that your assumption is not impossible. There's a case like that which actually happened. Ever heard the name Erik Finman? He became a btc millionaire by the age of 19 this is the source (https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/jun/13/meet-erik-finman-the-teenage-bitcoin-millionaire).

I hit bitcoin and bitcoin cash (which I got an equal amount for free in August) at several hundred each, when I was age 54 in 2015.  I've spent half on a new farmhouse, 40 acres of land, new tractor, large Amish barn, new furniture, expensive soapstone fire stove, and more.  To be sure I am wealthy because of bitcoin and bitcoin cash and still have plenty more.  8)

People in their late 20's would be the big holders. I'm surprised to learn
you started at 14 but i suppose young people from 8 or 9 years ago who

holding from then...... if they havent forgotten or dumped their computers.

Since young people are more adapted to different technologies, it allows them to learn something new more easily. Now, in the age of the Internet, you can find anything and make money on it. Teenagers want to live freely and therefore they are interested in various ways of earning, including earnings on cryptocurrency.

Personally, I think the target market of Bitcoin is the young people because they are expose in the technology thats why its a good idea to target the young ones. In this era, teenagers are very confuse to use technology they explore a lot of things and they are also easy to learn when it comes to block chain. Nowadays, young people can earn profit in their age with the help of technology

what is your point exactly?
if anybody wants they can come up with $30k and invest it in bitcoin. it is not really that big a deal in my opinion as long as they are willing to take the risks.
so if some young person owns above 10 bitcoin that simply means they were willing to take the risk and enter the high potential currency of the future in its early stages while others stood aside and watched.

Majority of whales comes from 30 to 40 years old because they had stable jobs and most of them are businessmen and I don't think, they in their twenty's because they just graduated from school or just got a job but anyway any age is very much welcome to cryptocurrency.

I think those mysterious whales with hundreds of thousands of coins are in their 40's or 50's now. I doubt that many of them have amassed their coins by mining, most likely they've bought in 2011-2012, and they've probably dropped some $100,000-500,000 during their accumulation period. That would mean that they were already quite rich if they could afford to put such sums into novel asset, so they are most likely middle-aged entrepreneurs or traders.

AGe is not a barrier to reach any milestone but generally teenagers depent on the parents for their needs so they maybe asking for their parents help to buy some bitcoins but the early investors and miners can hold more amount of bitcoin who maybe reaching 30's in the real soon since bitcoin is already a decade old.

I think people with most bitcoins are on the range of late 20s to 30s because the youngster nowadays can catch up to the oldies especially in terms of technology advancement. The most bitcoins holder cannot be seen in age as long as you manage well your coins and keep on engaging and studying it you have a potential to possess more of it.

You can not for sure judge the set of people who have the most bitcoin for sure, except you actually carried out a research on this. For me I like to think that those who even hold a meaningful amount of bitcoin as early adopters were risk takers who just wanted to gamble with the little the could afford to lose.

Okay, they might have been able to buy some through a holiday job or whatever, but they're teenagers.

I remember reading lots of posts by teenagers mining Bitcoin in 2012 with their GPUs for some extra cash even though they had no idea what it's purpose was, so you never know. I doubt that many of them held on to their coins through all these years unless they were believers though.

I'm on the line of 20's so I can say that OP is correct that most bitcoin holders are from 20's - 30's. But its better to say that most of us are into 20's and above, not skipping the young at hearts.

And as for the alts, I think there are kids that are into it because of its "cheaper" price which the kids can easily avail it. And you know kids, they like to see thousands of numbers on their holdings rather than the quality of a coin.

Yeah of course we can't know the age of a user, because it's someone's privacy, we can't even know who an early adopter was a few years ago, but it's true what you say, mostly people who are interested in cryptotechnology are people who are 30s or older , moreover bitcoin is still unknown at that time ?

There are difference between the rich and the poor country. If you are belong in rich country some opportunity have been their and most of all advance technology with online business strategy opportunities but if you belong in third world countries I don't think so 20's is having with it.
But we need young people to boasting up because young is superiority.

Bitcoin was not expensive back in 2009, so kids could afford to buy these coins for a few cents. Most children between 8 and 10 years old would not necessarily search for complex technologies like Crypto currencies, but they are always looking for ways to make some extra pocket money.

They could have seen some video on people mining bitcoins with GPUs and they might have jumped in to mine these coins with their gaming pc's.  ;)

The people should learn it as early as they are because they can be able to make a move that can help their future life alot.

You like my son he is only 18 years old and he discovered bitcoin mid of 2016 and now he earned in bitcoin and I confidently say that he supported his study in college and also support his siblings too. Bitcoin is really big help for us.

May be late 20's, 30's and 40's. Like most people say here an ordinary teenager can't afford buying bitcoins even when the price is down. The older people, mostly, have difficulties in understanding how the system functions.

Bitcoins have been over a couple of hundred dollars for more than 5 years now. Kids can only get so many by mining. Don't imagine too many teenagers have 10+ bitcoins without family help in getting them.

I'd say that it's impossible for teenagers to get 10+ bitcoins without help from their families. We shouldn't say too many teenagers. There's no way that a teenager can have 40 thousand dollars without inheriting it or getting it from wealthy family members. Most teenagers are spending whole days at school and dreaming about getting their driver's license and first car, or finally being able to move out to a small rented apartment.

We cannot predict the age group of most number of bitcoin holders as there are many early investors of all ages from teenage to people who are more than 80+  are interested in investment are also involved in the bitcoin and blockchain technology, more group of younger generation are onto the bitcoin technology as they are eager and enthusiastic to learn more and accept new technology than the older people.

I know quite a few people from my surroundings who invest in bitcoin and all of them are over the age of 25. Therefore, I believe that bitcoin is still intended for people older than teenagers. These are people who are already forced to be concerned about financial well-being and the future, and teenagers usually think little about it.

I think bitcoin investors are people of all ages. But mostly they are people from 20 to 30 years, as this generation is the most technologically advanced, I think. And teenagers are less interested in investing, especially since few of them can afford it.

I think HOLDERS will also not be able to mature, considering that bitcoin is very volatile so it is very easy to make each holder panic about every move, especially if it is in a bearish phase. 80% of the average person will panic to sell his assets before falling deeper, especially if he can't recover in a long time

Now, probably a big percentage of holders are young people because blockchain technology is something new and they can understand its potential in the future. But on the other side I think the most quantity of bitcoins are hold by people are are older, I mean not people who are 50+ but people who have experience in businesses and truly know what bitcoin is and what could happen with it in the future

the likelihood of bitcoin will be 20's even higher because of the age-old knowledge it's more ability to transact. but it depends on the teenager also if it is advanced to think of it as older as he/she is and if she/he can understand how to deal with bitcoin to others.

if later children can get 1 bitcoin not with their own competing results it can be with the help of others or even from the parents who buy it if the child is very clever then this becomes an asset in the future because bitcoin is not always in the price now competing for the next few years will go to the price.
At the early stage of bitcoin, you can earn it thru playing video games as a reward and since it's not yet popular those teenagers had to intention to keep it since it has no value other than use it to play video games. I remember a person said that at that time he has 20 BTC which he gained from playing those games and without thinking that those coins will become valuable after 9 years. Lucky those teenagers who manage to keep their bitcoin and sell it at higher price.

Few year from now, it might be 50's. Because, young ones are too busy from their careers that they don't care about cryptocurrency.

This is probably the correct estimation, in order to recognize how great bitcoin was just after it was created you needed to be looking for something like bitcoin for quite some time, you needed knowledge not only in cryptography but also in economics and the history of the world and getting that amount of knowledge will not be easy for a kid or a teenager so most likely the average age of long term holders is above 30 years old.

Yes because bitcoin and other crypto currency are the invention of modern age but the old people cannot easily get the idea behind it. Holders are mostly young as they have more patience than those who are older. So I think making an old limit is not fair but actually just because of generations gap it takes time to make them understand.

However, i envy those crypto people who discovered and own bitcoin on the first year of inventing it. They are so lucky they bought btc as a lowest price before.
